One of my best friends used to be a bouncer at Guys and Dolls.
It seems strange to me (and perhaps only by me) that Guys and Dolls has experienced a resurgence in popularity with the very fickle Lawton night life scene. This is only my opinion but I think a big reason why a good amount of the Lawton nightlife crowd has made the place popular recently is only because it hasn't been popular in a long time.
Overall the place is the same as it has been, and it is cramped for space. There's not much space for dancing. The ceilings are low. And there isn't a lot of square footage under the roof. If you have a low tolerance of cigarette smoke the place is to be avoided when crowded. Unlike the crowds in Oklahoma's larger cities, lots of folks here in Lawton still love to smoke. Some are militant about it too. That's fine, so long as you don't mind smelling like an ashtray and don't have any pulmonary conditions like asthma.
July 2009 update.
Guys and Dolls closed a couple months ago. The building was demolished in June. The Lawton Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) has acquired nearly all the buildings in the "Phase 1A" zone of Lawton's downtown redevelopment plan. Now they're starting to condemn and demolish buildings between Ferris Ave down to Gore between 2nd Street and Railroad Ave. Part of 2nd street is torn up and being remodeled.
The management of Guys and Dolls took over the former Duvallz / Southern Club location on Lee Blvd and have renamed that place Guys and Dolls.
