Tiny hole in the wall with delicious food.  I was surprised at the freshness of the food.  They were very kid friendly to my two girls.  They offered learner chopsticks and were very accomodating in fetching an assortment of toys.  Our girls loved the Chicken Katsu and the Toro Special was quite tasty.  Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere the most.  Quaint, fairly small selection of tables and sushi bar.  I enjoyed watching the Owner's (I presume) speaking Japanese and having dinner in the corner.  It was more expensive on the pocket book but I'll still return.  Too many other sushi rolls I would like to try!

This is the best sushi place in the area by far. They also have excellent entrees. The red snapper special is incredible. Great sushi, really good Korean dishes like Bi Bim Bop and Soon Du Bu. The staff is very friendly .

I had been to Hanabi or what may have been their previous incarnation years ago when a friend of mine had his sailboat at a nearby marina. He and I would stop there very now and then and I recall it as being above my expectations and very enjoyable. So recently I had thought about it and despite being unable to find it on yelp (though it was listed), The L and I set off to find it.

Hanabi is the quintessential neighborhood sushi joint. Everybody, staff and patrons alike, knew one another and greeted each other by name and with conviviality. We were happily the outsiders taking it all in. Sometimes we welcome dining somewhere we are anonymous and do not have to make an effort to socialize. A place where nobody knows our name, so to speak.

We were without reservation and they were pretty filled up but we did get a table immediately. With hot sake to warm our cold hands we perused their menu. I had seen that they offered a vegetarian sushi special, but being excited about dinner I forgot about it but I would have thought my probing questions about their veggie offerings would have prompted a suggestion from our waitress. Luckily there were sufficient options such as the standard edamame, though they came without sea salt, and a seaweed salad. In addition, I ordered three small veggie rolls for my entree.  They were good but let's face it it is hard to do much with vegan rolls. My husband had a good selection of fish and said he thought it was really good and he was not expecting to be so pleased. It looked very fresh and the presentations of both dinners was simple and pretty.

The environment was pleasing, approachable, clean and comfortable. Parking, since the restaurant is in a strip mall type complex, shares its spaces with other businesses but if one is patient, as we had to be on a weekend night, something turns over eventually. their prices were a little higher  than I would have thought but one definitely pays for quality. I would suggest making a reservation and  bringing a hearty appetite to indulge in Hanabi's many delights. :))) I am really looking forward to visiting them again very soon.

I do not envy most anybody, but I would not coming back as him in my next life. :)))

This place used to be known as Takashima Sushi but somewhere along the line it became known as Hanabi.  This proved to be a beneficial move because I enjoy going here 10x more now.  Its a quaint little place nestled off the main road in Stony Point.  Its only has 5 tables and the sushi bar, so you might want to call ahead and see if there are tables available (they take pickup orders as well).

The owners/hostess are very, very nice.  Some of my friends who go there more often then I do are friends with the sushi chef.  He even prepares them special dishes from time to time.  They have great original rolls and specials.  Also, try the Hu De Bap (I'm sure they have this at other places, but I first tried it here: noodles, sashimi, apples, peppers, spicy sauce all mixed together for an enjoyable meal).

You should also note they do not have a liquor license, but they do allow you to BYOB.  Many bottles of wine have been drunk over miso soup and edamame.

    Oishii!  (Delicious!)
