My cousin was playing here one night, my sister and I wanted to go see him play. My sister and I called up here to see if this place allowed kids, since we looked it up and saw there is a playground in the back. The person on the phone didn't even know there was a band playing that night even though we could here one playing in the background on the phone. THE PERSON ON THE PHONE SAID THIS PLACE WAS KID FRIENDLY. Â
We explained the situation on the phone clearly.
We drove 40 minutes to go here. My sister brought her 6 month old, since she is breast feeding. We had to walk though a smoky loud bar to the backyard, getting ugly looks the whole way. Thankfully there wasn't anyone by the playground really, but people were still staring at us and talking about us.
My sister and I had to take turns going inside to watch my cousin play, we hadn't seen him in 13 years or more.
We were there 30 minutes before we were kicked out, the guy said you had to be 21 or over. I guess he was afraid the 6 month old was going to try and sneak alcohol.
My sister went out to my car while I said goodbye to my cousin. I noticed there was a 13 year old there hanging out with her mom. I guess the establishment there thought she was old enough to stay. It was a bad experience, people were rude, the staff there didn't know what they were doing and gave us bad advice, and then kicked us out cause of the bad advice they gave us.
Ok so, my friend and I decided to go out for drinks a Friday night. We googled "drinks & bars near Austin, Tx" (we live in Manor, Tx) and Hanover's came up. We'd never heard of it but at times she and I like trying new things and decided to gps our way there.
Parking wasn't too far from the pub. We walked to the door and were hit up for an $8 admission fee. (I'm used to bar hopping at no entrance fee so that threw me off a little, but it wasn't a big deal). I just thought in my head "gotta head to the bar and get my money's worth haha". We got there like at 8:30pm, it wasn't too crowded yet. We were the youngest girls at the pub (22). I would say everyone was in their 30s and older. Of course, being used to the Downtown scene we were the only ones a little over dressed. Um, awkward. We strolled around the pub to pick out our seating, we checked out the volleyball courts, neat! Great place to bring a group of friends. We chatted and drank a little, an hour had gone by. A band was setting up the stage, woohoo live music! I have no idea what the band was called but they played 80's big hits, loooooved it! Everyone was dancing and enjoying themselves.
We totally loved the place, I don't remember what the tab was but it was so much fun I didn't care. I hope it's this cool when I bring other friends to check it out. Staff seemed laid back and the over-all crowd seemed nice and sociable as well.
I love that Hanovers has re-built its outside space. The Volleyball courts are great and the new netting put in place was a great improvement. Before, the ball would fly over the fence leaving the players hoping over and taking a sprint down the dark street. I think the drink prices are a bit much for a neighborhood bar but the atmosphere is nice. There is only one pool table so if your wanting to play pool make sure and be patient or get there early.
Review Source:Came here to see the Guilty Pleasures all-girl cover band (as an aside, they are awesome. This place is a great live music venue with multiple standing and seating areas, a pool table and an outdoor patio.
Service was quick and friendly and the patrons were all having a great time. They make a nice gin and tonic too.
I came here for my first time on Saturday to watch my coworker's band play, and at the end of the night, I left very pleasantly surprised.
Hanover is nestled in the middle of old downtown Pflugerville and seems to attract a bit of an older crowd. I felt kind of out of place at first, but everything became more enjoyable after a few drinks and the arrival of some familiar faces.
My coworker mentioned that there would probably be a cover at night (since there were 4 bands playing), so we called ahead and found out that they would only start charging an $8 cover after 8pm. Hubs and I got there right at 7:45. YES, more money for beer! We stuck with pitchers of Zieg- which were on special for $8- all night. Service was efficient, and while no one at the bar was super friendly, no one was rude either. From several reviews, it seems like this place used to allow indoor smoking. Not anymore though- there was a "Share the Air" sign on one of the walls, and there wasn't a cigarette in sight unless you stepped outside. Overall, the inside of the place was nothing special, and I would give Hanover 3 stars if it weren't for the back patio.
I never would've known that the back patio even existed if it weren't for my ridiculous grumbly tummy (that normally gets fed once every 3 hours). 9:30pm rolled around, and I still had not had dinner. Tummy told me that it was displeased. Very displeased. In fact, it wouldn't allow me anymore beer until it got dinner. This is when a bartender pointed me out to the back where Twisted Dish had a food stand set up. Ooohhh...the baaack...(think of "Ooohhh the claaaww" from Toy Story).
...of course, I would somehow randomly incorporate Toy Story into this. Dork alert.
Super-big, wooden deck patio, pretty twinkly lights, 2 sand volleyball courts, food, and BEER PONG. Hanover would've easily been a forgettable bar if it weren't for this hidden 5 star gem in the back. Hence, my 4 star (averaged out) review.
No questions asked- when the weather starts cooling down a bit, you can bet you'll find me back at Hanover playing pong.
This place has grown quite a bit since I have moved into town... the volleyball courts are an excellent addition to their large backyard. Â They have expanded their deck and added some pretty cool lights which provides a nice effect.
Inside you will find a couple pool tables along with karaoke and tons of ashtrays. Â The bartenders are pretty rude and don't seem to care to earn a decent tip. Â The food menu is very basic ... fried everything but I'm assuming they don't have a full kitchen. Â Its worth a look on late nights but typically pretty slow during the afternoon to evenings.
Pflugerville is indeed "lucky" to have Hanover's. It's a dive bar without being to "shady" with clean bathrooms. The bartenders were attentive which is a big plus for me because that seriously can ruin the experience. Bands are usually pretty good and I don't complain about drinks because I drink beer and it's no ones fault but the manufacturer if it tastes bad...Speaking of, the draft selection is great. The outdoor patio is massive with plenty of places to sit and chat as well as a large volleyball court and some other fun games to keep you occupied. I will miss living so close to this place.
Review Source:Very cool place, which it was closer to where I live in Cedar Park. But none the less, the people in Pflugerville are lucky to have a cool place like this. The night we went, the cover was $10 a person, seemed a little steep. Might be alright for locals but for anyone looking to make a trip out there. $20 (per couple) just to get in the door might not be worth it. Maybe that was an unusual night.
Review Source:You know that Buffy episode called "Band Candy"? Â Where the adults eat candy bars and suddenly act like teenagers even though they're still 40 something years old? Â This is what I experienced tonight at Hanover's. Â
The bar itself is in an interesting little downtown area of Pflugerville that I actually really like. Â It's kind of a divey bar. Â Not scary divey. Â Just divey enough for weekend biker poseurs to feel like they're being tough by hanging out there. Â I'm talking about those commercials on tv about the biker gang of lawyers (or is it lawyer gang of bikers?) who claim to specialize in biker-related court cases. Â This is where these guys go to 'quote' party '/quote'. Â
There was a seven dollar cover charge after midnight for an all-girl cover band. Â Yeah they were cute and all (I thought the bassist was awfully cute and I don't even like chicks) but I can go to a karaoke bar and get similar cover songs without paying seven bucks at the door. Â And I wouldn't have to watch men that look like my creepy old uncle try to do a 'sexy dance' on the dance floor with his middle aged girlfriend.
Please don't get me wrong, people of every size and shape are sexy in their own ways. Â But this..this was where people who used to go to sixth street in the early nineties have ended up since they've settled in the suburbs. Â And they think they're still rocking that mullet and stache. Â I say just own your debauchery, suck it up, and drive to the actual dive bars. Â Or keep it to your rumpus room like a proper suburbanite. Â Either way, just let me enjoy the music and leave me alone.
The beer was reasonably priced but the emotional cost of being checked out by weekend biker warriors was very high. Â My friend and I made it clear we were uninterested in random male attention so we were called lesbians (not that we cared really) AND there was indoor smoking. Â Blech! Â They started stacking the bar stools right around us at 1:30 am so we felt rushed to finish our pitcher. Â All around a bad and gross night.
Located in downtown Pflugerville, the downtown area looks like the little old town it used to be. This building has a lot of history, since originally this saloon was built over 100 years ago. I spent the majority of my later childhood and all my teen years living in Pflugerville, and then some after college. And of course I end up coming back when I'm up north. You see, Pville may boast over 50,000 people now but there aren't a lot of bars to choose from still. Just 3 that I'm aware of. And Hanover's is the best it gets here, and its not a bad place local bar/hangout if you're in the neighborhood. The crowd is diverse (or getting more to be) and definitely has some devoted, local clients.
Live music every Weds, Fri & Saturday with a measly $5-$10 cover is nothing to complain about. I've seen friends of mine ( locals) play shows here as well as "bigger" local bands like Vallejo. Always a blast. Its spacious along with a huge outside patio that is used for shows with volleyball courts. Karaoke Mon, Tues & Thurs for those brave souls, as well as poker nights on Sundays. Offering pool tables, horse shoe pits and darts there are plenty of things to choose from. But be aware this is not Austin and smoking is not banned in Pflugerville. They also claim to be pet friendly, but I wouldn't bring my dog to a bar. Within walking distance to the other 2 bars in downtown Pville. You've got options between dive bars. And unlike downtown Austin, parking isn't an issue here.
rumor has it this place is a lumberyard turned bar. Â i believe it, the building looks like it belongs to another time (actually every building in downtown pflugerville looks like it belongs in another time and place) and the interior has some gorgeous floors. Â
went tonight to meet friends to see vallejo. Â there was a $10 cover but we were with the band and so didn't have to pay. Â they tried to make us pay initially b/c someone had slipped them a completely fake VIP list and we obviously weren't on that one, but then the agent caught word of what happened and found the real list and we got in ok.
i like the atmosphere. Â there's no pretentiousness. Â the back patio provides a nice quiet contrast to the loud interior with the live acts. Â it's an interesting mix of people compared to what we're used to but i think it's a pretty good representative of pflugerville. Â
the best part of the night, and the part i wasn't prepared for, was seeing the beautiful and darkened old time buildings across the street as we left.  we went from a night of exceptionally loud live rock  to stepping into a street from the late 1800s.  surreal.
It would be borderline remarkable if I could effectively muse of the experience of others here, but since I can't, really, I won't. Really. I've been to Hanover's a few times through the years, and what you see by my estimation is mostly what you get - a room that tends to book pretty decent Austin singer songwriter talent and a few fun shows (we caught the most recent Skyrocket opus last night), and boasts an expansive backyard and solid cadre of brew taps. They're not reinventing the atom here (and let's face it, that would be weird), but what they are doing is fairly tried and true. And more times than not it's worked just fine for me.
There are some quirky peculiarities to be certain: the fact that the place has that sort of sideways / Antone's thing happening where you're very close to the stage at all times and very close to the bar besides. On our stop, the music was happening inside and outside there was an entirely different juju, what with some piped in C&W giving way to country swing on a patio with room to spare. It won't be for everyone, and it's not always subtle. But for an evening with little pretension and more rolliciking smiles than a room full of hayrides, Hanover's did me just right.
Hanovers is one of my favorite Pville spots. Â Besides the fact that it's an easy stumble home, it's also a nice, relaxed place to get a drink and hang out. Â I also really like that you can smoke inside - Austin bars are so sterile. Â The bartenders are always friendly, and they've got a great draft selection - at least 15 beers. Â The bar staff seems trained on their beer, too, which isn't always the case in places that have a ton of drafts.
I don't know if I'd drive up from Austin to come here, but if you live in the neighborhood it's definitely worth a visit.
This is a great place to enjoy your drinks and have fun at the same time too. Â Unlike 6th Street's crowded bars, Hanover's is enjoyable because there is alot of room, great drink selection and outdoor area for you to enjoy their drinks! Â
I love going there on Sundays to enjoy their Poker Night and I enjoy Friday and Saturdays since they often have a band playing. Â
What makes this place different is the atmosphere. Â I don't like being packed into a bar just to enjoy a drink. Â I just want to be able to sit down, enjoy my drink and listen to music. Â This is why I come here!
I love the owners since they are always accomodating and I definitely be coming here more often for the summer when its time to play volleyball on their courts! Â Yes, they have volleyball courts! Â :)
Disclaimer: I was in fact quite inebriated by the end of the evening, but I still enjoyed myself, so take the review for what its worth.
I tried this place for two reasons: First, it was recommended from a good friend who frequents the bar. Â Second, there was a band I wanted to see playing there as well. Â Since there was live music, there was a cover charge, but it wasn't unreasonable, so no biggie. Â All of the staff was friendly and quick to fill my drink orders, even as it got more and more crowded. Â And the drinks weren't weak, so all the better!
Since my evening was a bit blurred by the end, I'll do a quick summary of what I did & didn't care for.
Pros:
 *  Live music - The stage area and dance floor was nicely set up to accomodate bands of different sizes
 *  Large outdoor area
 *  Diverse crowd
Cons:
 *  Smoking allowed inside - While I found the place to be fairly well ventilated, I know that cigarette smoke can really get to people.  Be warned that people are allowed and will be smoking inside.
 *  Far North location - If you're in the neighborhood, its a fun place, but I can see how trekking in from downtown or south Austin would be problematic.
Clearly, I had a good time, so I'll definitely be back for another visit when I'm in the area :)
Booooooooooooooo. Still reeks of smoke, rude bartendress (really? There are 5 people here and you dont see me at the bar), and they could use a facelift, and a bigger bathroom. One star because it's close to my place of employment. When people schedule happy hours here, i don't go. Except the once. Which is why i wont go again.
Review Source:Bust my buttons and strip my gears!
Sorry guys!
Stopped by the other day, walked into the place, 2 steps in, I turned and left. So I can't comment on food, place or bands or beer.
I can only say if you are a non smoker avoid this place unless you don't mind smoke. Two steps in I was so overcome by cigarette smoke I just left.
That is why I can't review anything about this place.
Will I go back? Â No.
Hanny's is cool local bar in Pflugerville... It does take a little getting used too but it grows on ya. Seems more folks around during warmer months due to the outdoor volleyball tournaments, which is cool to watch while chuggin' brews. They have a pretty good variety of beer. Inside is kind of dark and lots of wood everywhere. 2 pool tables and of course the stage. Have seen several decent bands there who i dont really know...but they were good. If you've never been here you'll think 4 stars is too high but hey, gotta prop my local bar. Best thing about Hanny's... I can walk home if i need to.
Also...I often call this bar Hanovers on the way in and Hangovers on the way home.
On the dive bar scale this bar rates about a 6, with 10 being the most dive-ish. Â Wood floor, old tables, stools with holes in the vinyl upholstered tops, pool tables and a juke box made the "dive theme" work. Â Plus bartenders who serve the loud drunks before those who wait patiently for their attention. Â Jerks.
We were here last night to hear a friend, Kevin Havron and his talented young sidekick Earl, who's last name I never got. Kevin is a great guitarist and song writer and Earl is multi-talented as well, singing, strumming and playing the drums for the headliner band. Â We enjoyed meeting all the Pflugerville throng that hangs with these guys. Â Kevin plays many original tunes and it was apparent the two crowd favorites are"Longhorn Orange" and "Pflugerville". Â Both are audience participation and the more beer you drink, the more you are allowed to participate.
A big plus--Hanover's serves my favorite pear hard cider and they have a large selection of beer--more than 15 varieties on tap which makes Hubby happy. Â The one BIG downer is that Pflugerville has not banned indoor smoking. Â Ugh.
