I have been here many times in the past few years. The slow waitstaff from those times kept me away. My mother in law is a big fan of the food and employees here so I decided to give it another try. We went here on a busy Sunday morning. I had eggs Benedict that was fresh and tasty. The home fries were well cooked and savory with onions in them. My mother in law had her favorite french toast that she said was cooked perfectly. The eggs here are large and fresh. Our waitstaff and hostess were all very professional and fast. So I give Heberts 4 stars for their change in staffing and training. The food here is very good and affordable. No pretensions but a true family business. Now I would give 5 stars if their coffee choice was a bit higher quality such as Green Mountain, or Paul Newman organic...
Review Source:This is like 3 restaurants in one but with all the same menu. Â There is a dining room when you walk in that I think is the nicest part and it is where I like to sit. Â In the far back is a diner concept with checkerboard floors a counter with stools and metal signs on the walls. Â Totally different concept than the front dining room but the same menu. Â The kitchen is open behind the counter so if you like open kitchens this is a good place to sit. Â Then there is a bar that looks like another building inside the building where you sit if you want to drink. Â Again, different feel and different concept than the other two parts of the restaurant.
Service is up and down but usually ok. Â I dont like how the server doesnt even stop at my table to see if i need anything. Â Just a "you okay?" in passing. Â I got a waffle this time which was delicious and bacon and homefries on the side. Â Side of bacon has 5 pieces which is a pretty generous side. Homefries have onions in them as a warning to those who don't like onions. Â The food came out quickly which is good because I was starved!! Â Total bill came ti a very reasonable 14$ and change. All in all a good place for breakfast. Â If service was a little more personable this place would earn another star.
First off, you know you're going to have mediocre service when you have to greet the hostess yourself. Â "Good morning!" I said with a big smile, as she gave me the once-over. We sat in the back "diner" area, and soon our server brought over our silverware & placemat/menus. Â When she accidentally dropped one of our spoons on the floor, instead of picking it up, she just kicked it across the dining room and into the kitchen. Â Delightful! Â Our two omelettes with homefries were delivered quickly, but both items were sadly lacking in the flavor department. We each took a few bites, then looked at each other almost simultaneously and said, "Bland!". Â Odd, I could see the ham & the cheese but, for the life of me, could barely taste either. Â So we piled on the salt & pepper and scarfed down most of our food because we were in a bit of a hurry. Â I put my credit card on the side of our table to indicate we were finished. Â When it hadn't been picked up after a few minutes, I said to my partner, "Where's our waitress?". Â "Oh, she's out back taking a smoke break," he said. Â Sure enough, she was nowhere to be found! Â We found another waitress who was hanging around and asked her to ring us up, which she did. Â Never did see our waitress again...
Bottom line, this place is quick & conveniently located. Â But so is McDonald's, which is just a half mile down the street. Â And, frankly, I think McDonald's has tastier food & friendlier service. Â If you're looking for a really good breakfast experience, head to Betty's Kitchen--4 miles south on Route 1.
We went back yesterday & two of the four meals had problems. Â It may have been three of four because my wife didn't want to take her remaining jumbo shrimp, but she didn't say. Â I wish Hebert's was better than it is in so many ways. Â I wish the food was consistently good. Â I wish that the servers were quicker (and had the personality of the Hebert's guys on Badger's Island). Â I wish the disco ball and speakers weren't the most prominent part of the decor.
You could get a decent meal here for a reasonable price, but you'll have to be patient. Â Or you could be disappointed in the food and you'll still have to be patient.
For those that want a brief one sentence quick and dirty review, service was very slow and not good, the appetizers were something that was bought at BJ's, but the meals were really good for the price. Â If I went back I would skip the apps and just get meals.
I went to Hebert's early Saturday night for take-out.  I got there at 5pm and sat down at the bar.  There was one lady in the bar who was obviously friends with the bartender as he stood in front of her the whole time and ate a caesar  salad and talked.  I sat for several minutes and had to ask for a menu.  Once I decided I once again had to call him over after closing my menu and making eye contact several times.
I had the hot wings for an app which were average wings. Â Pretty much a quality you would get from any pizza place or delivery. Â I also got the chicken quesadilla roll-ups. Â These were obviously store bought and fried and tasted worse than many apps I have bought from BJ's.
The meals we ordered were outstanding and what drives the review up to 3 stars. Â I ordered the teriyaki chicken club with fries, and the Shasta which is a chicken, ham, bacon, swiss sandwich with onion rings. Â The onion rings were stellar. Â Definitely seemed homemade and cooked perfectly. Â Not too greasy. Â The fries were crisp and delicious. Â Both sandwiches were high quality typical restaurant quality sandwiches which were delicious. Â I will go back next time and skip the apps and just get meals.
My husband and I stumbled upon this place by accident when our favorite breakfast place (Betty's) had a 45 minute wait. Â I'm glad we tried it!
My husband ordered the Belgian waffle deluxe. For less than $7, he got a perfectly-cooked waffle, two scrambled eggs, and two pieces of perfectly-cooked bacon. Â
I got the eggs benny. Â The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the English muffin was topped with delicious, thick, generously-sliced pieces of ham. Â But I'm pretty picky about my Hollandaise sauce, and this one didn't taste home-made. Â It came with home fries, which were a little on the under-cooked side. Â Next time, I'll ask for them well-done. My meal was also under $7.
The coffee was awful. Â Even my husband, who isn't a picky coffee drinker thought it tasted like dirty water.
Service was great and the place was kid-friendly. Â I'll definitely give it another try! Next time, I'll sit in the back in the diner section!
Stopped by here for lunch via some friends.  Apparently it turns into a disco or some junk at night.  The waiter and host were really friendly here.  It reminds me of a dinner style menu, just more expansive.  I'm not even sure how I found my way here, just followed rode with some local friends and ended up in a  Market Basket parking lot.  Food as tasty and quick.  I'll definitely make my way here again.
Review Source:Another strip plaza gem! Located in the Market Basket Plaza, Hebert's Restaurant & Pub serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual family atmosphere. Hebert's is really 3 places in 1 space. The front of the house is a casual dining room with booth seating, green plants, high ceilings, big speakers, disco ball, and framed art on the walls. The middle portion is a neighborhood bar/lounge with large TV, and the back portion is a 1950's style diner with lots of retro and classic signs plastered on the walls. The breakfast menu offers typical items including eggs, omelettes, Belgian waffles, pancakes, French toast, and sides. The lunch menu offers apps, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, seafood baskets, and the dinner menu (after 5PM only) offers steaks, chicken, pasta, seafood, and traditional comfort foods. Kidz Menu available for those 12 and under (small soda included). Daily specials are posted in the front.
I stopped in here around 4PM hoping to grab an early dinner before I headed inland. I was told that it was lunch menu only and any specials posted. I sat in the front dining room, where it was really quiet and I can imagine how loud the place gets late nights. The closest things to dinner were posted on the specials board which were the meatloaf, spaghetti & meatballs, and the chicken and veal parmigiana over pasta specials.
First, I started off with a cup of Seafood Chowder ($3.95) was pretty good, did not pass the spoon test (not thick), but the broth was creamy with chunks of potato, fish, and baby shrimp. Next, the Chicken Parm Special ($7.95) was served with garlic toast in very hot in a big bowl, a breaded chicken cutlet over al dente spaghetti with a sweet tomato sauce, melted mozzarella cheese, and lots of sprinkled parmesan cheese. I enjoyed this dish, but I couldn't finish the meal, so I got the rest to go. The service was quick probably since I was the only diner in the dining room. The pub/lounge area did have a few patrons. In and out in 30 minutes!
