The Press Room

Went to The Press Room on a Saturday night around 10 to catch the Mike Dillon Band. Good show, semi-crowded but still able to get some seats up front. There were some people dancing, a lot were sitting or standing. I think it was 10 dollars or less for each of us to get in, so all in all very much worth our time and money.

The Press Room is pretty great.  I have a particular fondness for places that are capable of selling craft beer without being dicks.  Normally, I bolt for the door when a bar advertises live music, but it's kind of fun to watch awkward dads sit around bashfully noodling on mountain dulcimers and mandolins they bought after their retirement and there's a nice community feel to it.  Traditional sessions tend to attract a particularly obnoxious breed of snobby musicians on occasion, but none of that going on here.  Also, the jazz combo is pretty competent.

Hands down the best bar in Portsmouth. Friendly, professional bartenders, fun patrons and live music every night. Real Portsmouth soul. I always feel comfortable there.
