I stopped by for a drink and ended up staying the whole night. I had a blast and bought some books for future reading. That's a bonus.
The whole structure was once a custom house. I found the blueprints scatted about the building to be quite educational. The barkeeps kept me entertained all night. When you're from out of town, it's very comforting to have friendly bartenders. I'm sure they were glad someone wasn't crying in their beer. The kicker was the topics weren't typical small talk. We talked of authors and travel. It made a favorable impression on me.
I ordered the Turkey & Cranberry Chutney sandwich. It was quite enjoyable. So much so, that I still remember it over a month and a half ago. The chutney gave it a SweeTart flavor while the cheddar and turkey worked in their own way. It came highly recommended, and I'm glad I chose it.
I'm just a little bummed out something like this isn't available in my area.
Happened upon this spot while wandering around town looking for breakfast. Turns out that the owners used to have the Bookmill in Western Massachusetts, bringing back fond memories of college trips there. Anyways...Portsmouth Book and Bar is a real find. I had a lovely breakfast of yogurt, granola and fruit. My friends were equally impressed with their orders. Not living in the area, it's a bummer that I cannot return for happy hour as the offerings looked splendid. No comment on the book selection or prices as I didn't have time to wander through the aisles - guess it leaves something to discover on my next visit!
