So my review is somewhat torn... the food was really good. Almost amazing! But the service was TERRIBLE. I swear the server was high or something. We had reservations for 12 and we sat immediately. It took them 45 minutes just to bring us water and another 20 min to bring our drinks. They had issues in the kitchen with a missing dishwasher person... yet our server was just standing around... any good manager would have jumped in and washed some dishes to speed things up. The alcoholic drinks were weak...in fact on the 2nd round, I had the manager taste it because it had ZERO alcohol. They remade the drinks. When the server brought the food she dropped the plates... so now we are 2 hrs into dinner before we ate. The table next to us complained too.

On a good note... the food was really good which is why they are getting 2 stars. We ordered the lamb and the halibut... the fish came with cream spinach that was sooo good I could have licked the plate. The restaurant wasn't packed so their should be no excuse for taking so long to serve food and drinks... even with out a dishwasher. My only recommendation is on dessert... AVOID THE CREME BRULEE... it tasted like tapioca... it was terrible. everything else was great.

Dinner @ Hemingway's Saturday, November 10, was fabulous.  After reading recent reviews, we were a bit apprehensive, but our prior visit the same time last year was exceptional, so our party of 10 decided to give it a shot. We're glad we did.  Seated, in and out in 1.5 hours. Staff were very attentive and the meal was wonderful.  Assorted entrees were selected: red snapper special, filet oscar, shrimp scampi, new york strip and pork.  All prepared to perfection. The poached pear was a great dessert choice.   We will definitely be back next year.

We have eaten at Hemingway's a few times.  Lunch, dinner and Valentine's Day. The Valentine's Day dinner was the worst. The other meals were not much better. I won't write about the food. It was ok. Nothing special but ok. The service is horrible. Slow, inattentive and mediocre. Lack of training? Lack of pride in doing a good job? I don't have a clue. I won't give this place another chance. The restaurant is a missed opportunity. Too bad.

Drove yesterday (7/3/2012) from Corpus Christi to Rockport for dinner; we had Groupons we intended to redeem.  We called from 5:30 pm until we were on our way to dinner to try to make reservations but no one answered the phone.  Almost an hour drive later, we arrive at the restaurant around 8:30 pm and the restaurant was closed! No signs up, not even a posting of regular hours (online it says it should still be open till 9), just a FedEx "missed delivering a package to you today" slip on the door.  We peeked in through the windows - the restaurant looked like it hadn't been open at all for at least that day, no lights were on, and yet the tables were set.  Very bizarre situation, will definitely be refunding the Groupon and will never be coming back.

Hemingway's was by far the worst service I have ever experienced. It took over thirty minutes to get our water glasses to the table...and I am not exaggerating! The waitress forgot about our appetizer order so those took close to an hour to come out. This is when we decided to get the check and leave. We searched trying to find other places to eat but found out that most kitchens in the area were closing in fifteen minutes. We spoke to the General Manager about all of this and she told us that staying would be "worth your while".
The GM decided to take over waiting our table and with false hope we believed this would be a good idea. First, she told us that they were out of the pinot grigio we had ordered but they had another one that was "similar". We said that was fine only to find out later that the bottle of wine that had already been opened and drank was twice the price of the bottle we originally ordered. Then while trying to split a meal between two people, she "misunderstood" and ended up doubling the order. She blamed the poor service on the amount of people in the restaurant when it was at maybe half capacity and we had a reservation. But, the food was good and since we were there for a birthday they gave the birthday girl a dessert.
Then we got the check. To our stupidity making it "worth your while" did not mean comping anything except for the dessert that we did not even ask for. She stated that she only charged us for the price of the bottle of wine that we originally ordered and only charged us for one meal as opposed to the double meal she mistakingly ordered herself....and there was an 18% gratuity added for parties over six. We asked if there was anything more she could do to have actually made this experience worth our while and comping a $28 bottle of wine was all that she could do.
To top this night off, I went to the bathroom and when trying to leave the stall pulled the handle off the door. I was then locked in an inescapable stall. After a lot of yelling someone found and freed me. I went to give the GM the handle from the door in which she stated, "Oh yeah, that's happen to me before".

To conclude, Hemingway's will NOT BE WORTH YOUR WHILE!!!

We ate there today and was greeted at the door.  My husband had the pork loin Marsala and I had the petite steak.  The food was seasoned perfectly, the steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were yummy.  The salad was fresh with no MSG and the French bread was hot and tasty.  My tea glass was kept full, and the Chef made sure we had free sticky buns. The sticky buns were covered with pecans and were very good.  The service was good and the entire staff wanted to make us welcome.

Ignore early remarks, because they have new people there and they are trying hard to please.  Excellent food and good service!  We will go back.

We went to Hemingway's for our first time for the Easter Sunday brunch. The setting is first class and our food and service was very good (my wife had the fresh catch, Red Fish almondine style, and I had the Pork Loin Marsala). We both had the soup du jour, a Salmon Parmesan Bisque, which was outstanding. They have a special Sunday brunch menu and the prices for our meals were a reasonable $12 & $14; their breakfasty brunch items were all priced at $10. We asked for copies of their menus and their lunch menu specialty items were priced from $10 - $17. They have an Early Bird Menu served from 5pm - 7pm (what's so early bird about that!) with all items priced at $10. They have a Bar Meal Menu with most meals at $10 or less. Their dinner menu items were more pricey, $17 - $34. We were among the last to leave today and we asked if we could get the Bisque recipe. Chef Keefer French very graciously came to our table and went through the recipe with us. He also told us that he only recently became the chef (about 4 weeks ago) and he's totally re-done the menus. He also said the entire staff was very new (within the last few weeks) so they're still having service and kitchen problems - I think you should ignore reviews posted before March 2012 as not reflecting the current situation. We'll go back! And, I'd give them 5 stars when they get their service kinks worked out.

food was very good, service was the worst we have had. party of 6 only ones in the place took a hour to get our food. has to keep asking for water and any thing else needed. waitress was very rude, they added 15% to bill she should have gotten 1%. would not advise eating here we certainly won't in the future.

Tossed up between Meh and OK --

Service continues to be an issue -- food items are hit & miss.  Shrimp & grits is usually a good choice, fried anything is usually too dry, the fish of the day is usually good, if you dont' get it fried or blackened.  Tomato basil soup is ok ~~ but La Madeline's is still better.  I had a Caprese panini at lunch a while back that was so bland & dry, I took it apart & ordered EVOO & Balsamic vinegar, and ate it as a Caprese plate --- not going to waste carbs on lousy bread.

Ate lunch there last Sunday:  No champagne (they were out), so no champagne cocktails or mimosas at brunch; crab benedict -- eggs & hollandaise were fine, crab meat was mushy & flavorless; sauteed flounder was fine.   Nice muzak, standards from the Great American Songbook, for a Sunday brunch.  Service was decent, but there were only 3 tables, so not a busy Saturday night.

Wish it were a bit better for the price point, but it is a decent option if you're looking for a nice place for a seated meal in Rockport (not the typical seaside shrimp hut, etc).  And, it is one of the only decent places open on Sunday after church.  Nice atmosphere, quiet club-like with the piano bar & huge fish tank.

Gee -- this is pitiful review . . . I guess you can tell my heart isn't in it.

visiting from Houston. Very poor service, food and length of wait for the price.  Server didnt come by the table unless we flagged her down. The "chefs special" potatos we dried up mashed potato. The rice was also dry and two fish dishes were overcooked. Four adults and two kids coumts as the six they need to tack 20% for an undeserved gratuity on to an already overpriced sad meal. Skip this place!
