I really like Herman. I wanted to try something new but always ended up with ordering chicken fingers with fries combo with separate  honey muster and BBQ sauce. Very nice atmosphere sitting outside in the summer. BBQ chicken pizza also really great. Beers are good, too.

A little pricy, but the food and drinks were great! And, the bonus is that there's an outside seating area, so definitely a relaxed atmosphere for after work dinner and drinks with friends, while enjoying the sunshine and warmth!

Great atmosphere and service! Miss their old server Ashley, she is what kept bringing me back.

Strolled in after realizing Liberty Street Brewing didn't serve food. Super stoked we did. This place is awesome! TV's galore, great beer choices, food was delicious and the prices weren't bad. I'd say it was a successful night out of exploring. Staff is uber polite. I had  the OTG Quesadilla. It was filled with sauteed spinach, garlic, mushrooms and a trio of cheeses. It was super yummy. I can't wait to come back to order it again!

Hermann's is our go-to spot after work. It's close, never too busy to find a seat, and decent food & drinks. Parking can be tricky sometimes, but I think it's a little easier to find a spot in this area versus the downtown Plymouth area. It's also hard to miss with the giant drooling moose painted on the side of the building.

I mostly stop in for beer, but once in awhile I'll order food. In my opinion, it's pretty standard for bar food. The seasoned fries are good, which is always important to me.

The beer selection is decent. They usually rotate a couple, and have some seasonal beers. Drink specials are pretty good too.

During the summer, they have outdoor seating, which is also usually available. The service tends to be a little slower out there though.

Love this place for service and quality pub food. The only eh... Price.
We had the au jus beef sandwich special, last night. $9 for a 6 inch sand. And a bag of better made chips. YES, the sandwich was very very tasty, but nine is steep. I would rather have fries than the paltry chips.  It would be awesome if they made their own chips.  The service is always great! My son had the chicken tender dinner - fantastic!

My new favorite Thursday night hot spot!

I just moved to Plymouth over the summer and live in walking distance from Herman's, which is super convenient. The wait staff are witty and friendly and very attentive. My coworkers and I are now addicted to coming up for Trivia on Thursdays, the trivia host is really fun too!The food is typical bar food and pretty good. Deep friend pickle spears anyone? Yes please!

Just popped in fro a beer (they have a decent Michigan beer list and good prices) and a pretzel with queso dip for lunch. Nice service, will be going back...

Have not been to Hermans in years.  DTP was too crowded last night so we went to Hermans in Lower Town.   I always liked Hermans but the smoke was always way too much there.

First of all the place was packed...and fresh and clean without the disgusting smoke lingering everywhere.   We split the steak bits and calamari and had a couple of beers and everything was very good!!

A little different crowd than all the wannabe hipsters in DTP. A very nice change of pace. Plus there was some decent looking tail there as well.

I met a couple Plymouth regulars here after a long day of painting and helping a friend out in their new home.  Service was pleasant - actually quite witty, which was appreciated.  The place itself seems like a good "regular" joint, but I wouldn't say it's a destination.  Their menu is pretty extensive, spanning from quesadillas to sandwiches and pizza, but nothing really stood out.  My french dip sandwich was average and the sweet potato fries were decent.  Everyone else seemed reasonably please with their meals, but the whole experience for me was more about being with friends than going out for good food.

I'd come back with my friends for a place to hang out, but I don't know that I'll be chomping at the bit...

This is my type of place... It could be one of my favorite bars. They always have a good selection of beer, and good beer on tap. The staff here is very friendly and talkative. The crowd is very good. The food here is very good, they have a large selection of sandwiches, as well as sweet potato fries which are a huge plus. The pizza is really good, and the best part is that the food is very well priced. Not too expensive at all. The game room is awesome, there are two pool tables, a dart board, shuffle board, and a few arcades. Its just a great place to go hang out with friends in a good atmosphere.

Friendly atmosphere, great casual food, really good beer selection, and it is family friendly. We can count on a good experience every time we go to Hermanns with or without our children. Nick and his family have done a wonderful job with this place. We have tried most of the menu, and have not been disappointed with anything. They have a nice patio in the summer. Great spot to watch a game.

Stopped in to Hermann's before the ice festival last night. I had been here before, I think when there was still smoking permitted, and the place was not tolerable for more than 5 minutes. It has a college bar type of feel, so I guess I was a bit surprised when they were on a wait for a table. We were able to belly up to the bar and decided to stay put there to watch the MSU basketball game. I was glad to be seated next to another Spartan fan, because the place is clearly heavily a U of M bar.

The two bartenders were "all business". One of them was extremely built, and not really friendly at all but overall added to the charm of this place. The menu is great. Really have all sorts of sammies and burgers, and typical bar food. We started with the chips and salsa - the chips were the multicolored kind which I love and just salty enough. They could have been a little more generous with the store bought salsa.

I ordered the BBQ chicken salad for my entrée, which I thought was delicious! The lettuce was crisp and fresh, the bbq chicken was perfectly cooked and the sauce its self had a little kick to it which I really enjoyed. For me, sometimes the best part about trying out a new place is discovering if they have good ranch dressing. This place hits it out of the park! They had both excellent ranch and chipotle ranch dressing, very thin and full of flavor! If you don't have good dressing then its likely I won't want to come back - I order salads at most of the restaurants that we eat at so its a very important factor for me in deciding if I like a restaurant or not.

In addition to their delicious food, they also have an awesome beer selection, both on tap and in the bottle. I tried my first Hopslam - very delicious and strong... had to switch to water after just one!

I doubt I'll visit during March Madness or football Saturdays.. but yes, Hermann's is a great place, even if you root for the wrong team :)

It's been nearly four years since I reviewed this place, so I guess it's about time I update it.

Hermann's food is solid. I've eaten here several times now and I have yet to be disappointed with anything. The pizza is good (and I believe there's a Sunday special for it). I'm a sucker for the French Dip sandwich. The turkey pesto wrap is also good.

The service is always good - but seems to be better when they are busier (at night). They do a really good job of rotating their taps and getting good microbrews in the house. The do a good job of featuring Michigan-brewed beers and the prices are reasonable.

Overall, Hermann's is a good place to watch a game, grab a bite to eat, or just come out and hang for a few drinks. The one knock I have on the place is the game room that I used to love so much. They got rid of the Silver Strike Machine and added a mini-shuffleboard game...not a fan. Also, the pool tables (last I checked) are in desperate need of some work or need to be completely replaced.  That being said...don't let it stop you from checking it out.

Yeah, I kind of love Hermann's. It's a sports bar, it's a pub, it's a relaxing place to come with a few friends and have drinks without the pretentiousness.

Food is awesome - from the pizza to any number of burger options and sandwiches.  The fried pickles are awesome too - although on my last visit, they seemed to be a little stingy on the serving.  No mind - they were still delicious.

Oh, and Hopslam on draft? Excellent.

I'll keep coming back, for sure.

Good food, craft beer on tap, friendly wait staff, lots of televisions showing sports and a nice sized bar with plenty of stools.  We stop in about once a month for lunch on a Saturday and usually spend about twenty dollars for two people (drinking Coke).  Everything I have had here is good - pizza, burgers, quesadillas.  My husband got a chef salad today and really liked it also.  The menu is a little bit more interesting than typical bar food - a few twists on sandwiches and burgers and appetizers that make it worth revisiting.   You can street park in the Old Village, so it  is easier to get in and out of than some of the bars and restaurants in downtown Plymouth.

I have been to Hermann's twice recently and on both trips, I have enjoyed my visit. The atmosphere is nice: there are more than enough televisions well spaced and turned to each of the relevant sporting events, the chairs are comfortable, and the tables are arranged such that you are not overly crammed in.

On both trips, I have ordered the Patty Melt and paid the up charge for fries. The beef has been cooked property on both occasions, the bread toasted just right, and the fries are neither too crispy nor soggy. I greatly appreciate the consistency of the chefs, and I hope that it extended to other dishes as well. Everyone in my party was also pleased with their meals. The beer taps rotate and offer a good choice of standards and craft beer, and the prices are reasonable.

Both visits were with large groups, and the waiter on my first visit was impeccable: he was attentive with each person at the table, checked in frequently, and was quite prompt with bringing drinks. The waitress on my last visit was not rude in any way, but utterly useless. My group was not asked if we wanted more drinks, how our food was, or even brought the tab at the end of the night. Each time we wanted something a member of the group had to leave the table to find her chatting at the bar. The rest of the staff I have encountered at Hermann's have been much, much better so I am inclined to view her behavior as the exception to the rule.

If you are looking for above average bar food and a good place to watch a game, Hermann's is a good choice.

    Order the fried pickles here!

Casual atmosphere, great bar food, decent beer selection, and reasonable prices.  The sandwiches and burger I've tried here have been satisfying.  A good place to hang out with friends to watch sports or play trivia.

The morning (or maybe it was more like early afternoon) after girls night was spent here. My friend and I wanted a bloody mary and Hermann's delivered a pretty good one. Plenty spicy it hit the spot and helped with my recovery from the night before.

I had the 'special grilled cheese' which had a few different cheeses, apple slices, and bacon on raisin bread. The sandwich was tasty, although the bread was a bit over cooked. I felt like the price was a bit much - $8.95 for the sandwich and a bag of Better Made chips. You could add fries for another $3 but then we're just getting crazy.

I'd like to try this place out again, the menu looked interesting - seems like a nice, laid back place. The waitress was nice and the decor was pretty cool. My friend said they have a great all day happy hour on Sundays.

    2 and a half stars

The goods:  Great location in Old Towne Plymouth, good selection of beers on tap, clean and fun atmosphere, plenty of flat screens to watch games,  game room with a few pool tables and some video games

The bads:  Host/door guy forgot about us (he admitted this to us), even though he had my name written down, we ended up taking a small hi-top right next to the host stand, which was a bad idea, but we wanted to sit down because we had been waiting awhile.  Food was just ok, my black & blue burger was nothing special, and the fries were pretty generic, my buddy said his turkey sandwhich was not very good, and the coleslaw was not good at all. Beer prices change throughout the evening!  I understand happy hour prices and regular prices, but how about "entertainment prices" where the beer costs more after 9pm.  Wha???

The verdict:  The location, vibe, and beer menu make me want to give Hermann's another shot, but overall, not a good first experience.  And what's with jacking up the beer prices after 9?  C'mon now!!

I was here several months ago with my sister and some friends, and I was actually surprised at what I got. When you walk in, you'll notice the place is pretty crammed, even if there aren't many people inside (I can't imagine going there for a Michigan/State football game). They have a decent selection of beer from what their website says, and the prices are about what you'd expect at a bar. For food, I got the Texas burger, and shared the bacon and cheese fries. I thought the burger was a notch above most bar burgers, and I'd probably go ahead and get it again. For the price, the fries just weren't worth it. There was a decent portion of fries, but the cheese and bacon on top was pretty sparse.

I'd willingly go again if in the area. If you go to Hermann's, make sure to make a walk down the street and go to Liberty Street Brewing afterwards ... or beforehand.

A friend pointed out to me last night, that Hermann's is really the only bar of it's kind in Plymouth proper to which I argued...but after giving it some thought I suspect he may have been right.  There aren't any really chilled out spots in Plymouth that haven't been overrun with twenty-somethings ready to get there drink-on. Spots where you can get really great beer, good food, play some Keno or pool or darts (steel tip or electronic BTW) all in a laid back atmosphere.

The bar itself, which I will always refer to under it's former namesake Lower Town, is a little divey, a little dingy but has some mad character. I think the huge moose head still hangs over the bar while the Cape Buffalo head still watches over gameroom shenanigans. Which reminds me, I like the option of retreating to the gameroom on Hermann's busier nights where it's even a little more relaxed with it's own juke box, pool table and a couple dartboards to accompany the arcade games. It's a nice fun spot for a date if drinking and pub games are your girl's thing.

All that aside, the service is 4 stars easily whether it's from the bar or a server. And on top of that you've got Liberty Street next door if you're looking for an immediate change of pace and Grecian Cafe is in walking distance if you need some time to sober up over a plateful of whatever.

Maybe our server was just having a bad day... We ordered drinks, then an appetizer and pizza. The waitress brought one of our drinks, then returned a few minutes later saying she forgot what we ordered. When the pizza arrived, it had pepperoni on it that we did not order. The waitress just stared at us when we told her of the error and walked away.   Half way through our pizza the second drink finally arrived. When the bill came we got charged for the late drink ($2.50 for a Coke, really??) and for 2 additional pizza toppings. The pizza was good, but not great. The continuous horrible service left a bad taste in my mouth and ruined thoughts of ever returning to this establishment.

One of my fave spots.  I used to come here almost every Sunday night when a good friend lived nearby in Plymouth.  Why Sunday?  For their pizza special!  $6 for a large one-item.  I love many other items on the menu as well as their great beer selection.  They have plenty of TVs for catching the game(s) and a patio in the summertime.  I made the "mistake" of liking them on Facebook.  So now I see their lunch specials in my daily feed.  They all sound--and I just know they taste--amazing.  I wish I wish I wish I lived closer.

Yeah this is my go to spot in Plymouth, if I want to meet with friends for a casual night of good food pub food in a cool laid back environment this is the spot!

The staff is always super nice and attentive, the tvs are clear and in HD (some bars cheap out on having real HD service on the tvs) if that's you're thing (I'm the only sports fan among my friends). The back room with pool tables is fun too, dollar tables.

I've been here countless times and have loved all the food here.

I don't know what people are raving about.  Maybe it's because I was there on a busy night.  Maybe it's because I was wearing a MSU shirt and the place was full of obvious Michigan fans.  Maybe it's because when I was being shown to my seat outside, the owner (I'm guessing) remarked to other patrons that the State fan would have to go outside.  I guess that's all in fun, but that was part of my first impression of this place.

Once my friend and I were seated outside, practically in the dark because the outside lighting consists of nearby street lights, it took quite awhile for the waitress to take our drink orders.  Like others have said, the waitstaff doesn't seem particularly interested in making sure people have what they need, like silverware or napkins (we had to ask for both).  We had to share a menu and it took longer than it should have to get a couple burgers.  The cole slaw is nothing to write home about because it's quite bland.  The burger was okay, although I've had better.  Neither of us finished everything on our plates, which is a sign to me that it wasn't spectacular.  It's pretty standard bar fare, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.  This State fan will take her money elsewhere.

A lot of people (and friends alike) seem to really like this place.  Which, once again, makes me feel like hubby and I are overly critical restaurant go-ers.

The establishment itself has a wide array of clientele but seems to be popular with bikers (fine with me :) and has a bar area as well as a gaming room.

As for the food, we both ordered a different burger and were underwhelmed with both.  Two of three orders came out wrong and had to be re-made. One burger was burned to a crisp and somehow passed QC and was covered up with topping in hopes the overwhelming charred flavor would not be detected.  Also, our sides were delivered 10 minutes after the fact, resulting in 2 separate "meals.

Our waitress whom must not have been a day over 17 did not seem to care too much about anything, including refilling drinks and our dissatisfaction.

I've heard friends rave about the burgers, pizza and salads.  Unfortunately I don't think I will go back to try any of these other two suggestions.

This is probably my new favorite place in Plymouth. My burger was excellent... fries were, too. Their beer selection is also nice, and it's worth a stop even with the brewery a few doors down. The atmosphere is casual, and the servers were nice and cute.

The place is tucked away in a very quiet part of Plymouth, off the beaten path. If you can find it (easy to do), you will be rewarded.

First timers, and we were very happy.

Thursday 7pm.  Just missed the Happy Hour specials (which didn't sound too special - less than $1 off each drink - so no biggie).  Very, very busy and loud.  Staff had just cleaned the four top we snagged - no other table or bar stool in the joint.

On tap menu goes beyond boring Bud Light to include some interesting choices.  We ordered beers right away (shoot, I'm horrible with beer names... my first one was an Amber, and Ken liked it enough to get it as his 2nd beer.  My second glass was Bass) and perused the food menu.

We started by splitting the pepperjack cheese bites and pretzel sticks (on the specials menu, served with warm queso and grainy mustard dipping sauces - yum!).  Ken got the Fish and Chips (three thick, flaky pieces served with housemade tartar, plus OK fries and coleslaw).  I tried the 7" personal pepperoni pizza (nice thick hand-tossed crust, gooey cheese).  Everything we had was delicious!  This tells me that place does seriously good food all around.

Our waitress was on the ball, with food recommendations and checking back just often enough.  A side room has pool tables and dart boards.  TVs everywhere.  The crowd appears to get younger as the night goes on, but when we were there it was a mix of 20s to 40s, with a few older couples thrown in.

We will go back.  Soon, I expect.

Hermanns is one of those places I never went to before the smoking ban. It was a giant choking cloud, even outside. Luckily Michigan passed the ban, because Hermann's is a-ok in my book.

I like the food. For a bar it is a good change of pace. Not everything is fried and there are some appealing healthier options (low carb) to boot. You can even take a veggie only pal here. It is not uber cheap nor is it terribly creative but it is solid and nice. Great with a beer or mixed cocktail.

I had a Hawaiian chicken salad in here and it was very tasty. Spinach, mushrooms, caramelized pineapple, teriyaki chicken and macadamia nuts. Yum. A trifle on the sweet side but that is what I was looking for. Everything tasted fresh and the flavor combo worked. My husband ate a Texas burger, BBQ sauce, bacon and a battered onion ring on a half pound burger. He had his with cheddar cheese and opted for onion straws. It was a respectable bar burger. My husband also got a 2 buck PBR but I had to stick to non alcoholic this visit myself.

Hermann's is casual and fun. The crowd is friendly. The waitstaff is on the ball. It will not blow you away but you will enjoy yourself enough to want a return visit. Its a three and a half for my money but Yelp doesn't allow me to do that.

I've been to Hermann's quite a few times and I can't say I've ever had a bad time.     I'm sure most of that has to do with my company but I enjoy this place.

Hermann's is a casual fun bar you can go with friends, and not feel like you are there to hook up with some random idiot.   They have a nice selection of beers and their menu is extensive.   Although it mostly consists of bar food, everything I have tried there is really good!

Also, the service is great.   The servers are frequently on top of their game, and there are always a few scurrying around if you need to flag someone down quickly.

I've closed Hermann's down a few more times than I'd like to admit, and they are always shoving us out the door.  I would consider that a compliment since people don't seem to want to leave.

Hermann's is a great local bar - the kind everyone wishes they had in their home town to unwind on a Friday night. Especially now that it's non-smoking, we go there to grab a bite of food and a good drink on a fairly regular basis.
The atmosphere is good - it has that "I'm a fun bar, let's laugh" feeling to it when you walk in the door.  There are also a couple pool tables and games around so there are ample opportunities for distraction.
The food is pretty good for a bar. Typical american fare - pizzas, sandwiches, potato skins, etc. The pizzas are pretty good and the food is consistent.
They have a good selection of beer on draft and lots of variety in bottles, as well as a full bar. Hermann's is definitely a good spot.

I'm so glad that Michigan bars are smoke free now. This is one place that was just ok to come to because of all the smoke. Now it is so much more awesome because I can breathe!

This place has a pretty laid back, casual atmosphere. The bar food is good and the beer tap selection is great - Bell's Two Hearted, Founders Red's Rye and one of my favorite fall seasonal's - Sam Adam's Octoberfest, as well as the usual brews. I really like the OTG Quesadilla - spinach, mushrooms, garlic and three cheeses.

Service is pretty good and friendly. If a big sports game is on, I would recommend coming here, because they have a ton of TV's throughout the place.

Much better now that there's no smoking - Yay!!

The food is a definite step above the usual bar food, you must try the OTG Calamari - it is the stuff of dreams - thick strips of tender calamari lightly fried and served in a citrus beurre blanc with capers, fresh and sun dried tomatoes - amazing! And in a bar!!

The burgers are good, everyone I've dined there with enjoyed their food as well - I can't seem to drag myself away from the calamari!!

Good drink selection, a great place to catch a quick bite and drinks.

This place has a giant mechanical moose head hanging above the bar and a couple arcade games featuring photo hunt. What's not to like?

Beer is priced well and the food is solid. I've had great experience with pizza, wraps and subs here as well as soup. Seriously, I actually ordered soup at this bar once.

I would have given this place a five star but it is not within walking distance of other watering-holes. But I guess that isn't there fault.

    Outdoor seating is sorta cool.

I have a fond place for Hermann's. It's one of the first places I started going to when I moved to Plymouth, and now it's a place I never pass up.

While many people might think it's just a bar, it has a great menu. Tons of options, good for large groups. I recommend the veggie wrap and the cobb salad. Both great.

Hermann's is very smokey, which is the only drawback for me. I tend to sit in the back when I go, since that portion is smoke-free.

The staff at Hermann's is the best. Always friendly and willing to help. During the summer there's a great side patio, too.

Give this place a try during Ice Festival- it's off the beaten path!

I've been to Hermann's twice and never again. The first time we told the hostess guy (host seems wrong) that we needed a table for 3.  We waited in the back game room for 20 mins or so until a table opened up.  Finally he ushers us to a table for 2.  When we explain we can take the table but need a third chair, he snaps "good luck finding it" and stomped away.  We should have left.  But we didn't.  We stayed and ate and drank and I found the place to be just so-so.  Food was OK.  Good beer selection.

The second and final time was also met with a gruff attitude from the "host."  We stalked the bar looking for an open table and, after waiting one out, he runs over to slap a "reserved" sign on it as we were sitting down.

Look, I don't need to beg some one to take my money.  Save the attitude and hoof it over next door to Liberty Street for some good beer and better service.

I like Hermann's when it's not busy which essentially means it's not so smoky that you feel like you're dying and that the service is excellent. To be honest, the smoke is the major downfall for me. I feel sick after being there even if I haven't enjoyed a few too may beverages the night before - it's REALLY bad.

When the service is good it's GOOD! The servers are friendly, mostly knowledgeable and quick. When it's not...it's your typical overcrowded bar service.

The food is great for a bar! I haven't had anything there that I didn't enjoy. The soups of the day are always interesting, the veggie burger (and regular ones too) are great, the apps are tasty and a little step up from your regular bar food. A little tricky for gluten-free people here though.

The drink selection is also awesome! They have several things on tap that are harder to find - Two Hearted and Hopslam, among others. Plus a wide selection of bottled beers. The wine list is ok. They have nearly any liquor you could want. Order a "Shazamm" it's vodka, grenadine, a bunch of cherries and soda water - refreshing! I also like the Hermann's Coffee drink. For gluten-free folks another option is Strongbow.

They have/had a not so good DJ in there on Friday/Saturday nights...it kind of turns clubby which really doesn't fit the vibe. There's a game room with pool tables and darts. Also several TVs and a big projection screen at the back for your viewing pleasure.

I like to sit at the bar  because it essentially guarantees good service. And yes the wild game heads are moving, it's not your imagination! Make sure you bring your ID because they always have someone at the door carding that takes his job quite seriously.

We've usually only been here for lunch when my husband's office was over off Sheldon. The food has always been a bit better than typical bar food. We usually head there when my husband has a craving for a Hermann's Hammy (the ham sandwich).

I didn't realize the restaurant went back much further than just the bar area until we met friends up there one evening. The back part felt sort of cold and deserted, but the service was still as good as usual.

Unfortunately, both the front and back areas always smell kind of funny. I don't know why.
