If you want a reasonably priced well drink, it's a winner. I've never ordered a Mai Tai, or Zombie, and likely never will......that being said, at least once a month I happen to want something like a bourbon and soda, or a gin and tonic.........don't need a call, dont have the ego that requires a particular brand, just a drink is all I want....the Hide-away delivers. It's less than 2 miles from my house, and it caters to drinkers from early 20's onto the elderly 50-somethings like myself...Kentucky street is a fun street to walk along, and this bar delivers it's dive theme adequately. If Petaluma didn't have pretty efficient police, and we weren't living in the age of MADD, I just might give this place 4 stars, then again I'm probably happy to see the effort to keep this town reasonably well behaved????? All things considered, it's a solid 3.5 stars.
Review Source:Always can count on this place fore a good time. Cheap drinks, good mix of people (not all college kids, not all old men, not all jersey shore wannabes...good mix)
Weekends they have a good DJ but the dance floor is never as packed as I think it should be. :)
Never left here disappointed!
What a dump. Lousy mixed drinks. Most of the crowd looked like they're homeless or live in a shelter. At one point I stepped out back for fresh air. When I tried to get back in this fat bouncer said That I would have to pay. I told him I had already been inside for an hour but he said I still had to pay. When I went to go by him he tried to grab me in a head lock. But since he was a fat slob I was faster and I knocked his fat ass to the ground. This place is just a shithole run by assholes!!!
Review Source:Oh Hide-Away, no matter how hard we try to hide from you, we always end up here. Maybe it's your cheap drinks, or your strong drinks, or the fact that you have a dance floor. You'll meet some very interesting characters there but the bartenders are nice and make good drinks. I've only been here on weekends and the place is never packed so I imagine it's quite dead during the week.
Review Source:For a Chokeland bar I mean "RAIDERS" I love this place being a 49er fan, I love the bartenders so much!! John, Karla, Spanky, Andrew and the bouncers!!! Shane/Bob...these guys are FAMILY to me and I love how they all call me "JENNY CHANG!!!" I feel so loved...awwwwv. Â get to know the people working there and I swear you will fall in love and Karla def can make any drink you ask and if your not sure have her make you a special....The bloody marys are #1 by far!!! It's way better then what I make....
GO HIDE A WAY! Â Your my #1 fav spot!!!
This is my "go to" place for televised Raider games with a 10:00am start time. You haven't lived until you've had one of Spanky's famous Bloody Marys. Such incredible savory goodness in a pint glass! I can't remember ever having had a better one, and the array of vegetables contained therein allow me the illusion of thinking it's healthy drinking.
Sure, some of the Hideaway's "colorful" characters can get a little loud, but it's all a generally good-natured vibe here, and I find myself frequently LOLing at the trash talking and antics. This place isn't for everybody, but I always seem to have a great time there and the drinks are good, and reasonably-priced.
GO RAIDERS!
Somethin' about this raider bar that this 49er fan can't help but visit anytime I am in town. This was the first bar i was a regular at. Some cool ass people at the Hide no matter when you go monday through sunday. I cant forget to mention Karla is awesome. Makes great drinks and is hella friendly. Go you wont regret it.
Review Source:Great dive/sports bar! Most of their bartenders have been there for years and they're fun! Andrew served me my first drink a decade ago and is still there, and Karla has made me some of the tastiest cocktails I've ever had! A lot of the time the place is full of regulars young and old, they have a game night once a week, free pool several times a week and if you are up for dancing they have a DJ on the weekends. If you are a local this will definately become one of your favorite watering holes..Cheers
Review Source:Well, it's a dive bar. Not the kind of place you'd dress up to go out to, far from glamorous. That said, it's not bad for grabbing a beer or playing some pool with a couple friends. It can be a nice change from some of the louder bars in town, the volume is usually reasonable enough to carry on a conversation. I've never seen a DJ here, only the jukebox. They have a decent-sized dance floor, but I've only ever seen a few drunk lads attempting to show off. I'd consider this to be spectator entertainment, an added bonus?
The people here are hit or miss. Some nights it's a nice crowd of friend groups having a good time, another it's a loud group of drunk bikers stumbling to and fro. And of course the select few who find the need to start fights, mostly on weekends. Again, typical for a dive bar.
Drinks are reasonably priced, and the bartenders are friendly. The cocktails tend to be poured generously, I've never had a weak drink. There are something like ten beers on tap with a couple local favorites (Lagunitas).
Great place, great people. Â We go about once a month all winter long after italian food. Â We're usually after happy hour and before the latenight crowd. Â We've seen the bouncers set up but never had any experience with them. Â Andrew is great, remembers my drink, includes us in conversations with regulars. Â Prices are pretty good, too.
Review Source:Oh the scum away, or at least thats what I like to call it. Well we have pool tables a little dance area and a outside smoking lounge. So that covers all the base. Well I have met a few ladies here but it seems to be a trend of rebound central. Either they are divorced, newly single or just on the outs with there guys. So heads up if its to good to be true it may be. The bartenders are all great and always being nice to you as a patron and they never will cheat you as some other places may aka be careful in cotati,
well happy hunting in scum away,
This bar is perfect you want to meet whores and wannabe Sonoma County "gangstas." Â It's Petaluma's version of a club, with a velvet rope and everything, and there's mostly hiphop being piped through their incredibly loud sound system. Â Inside is nice enough, so I wouldn't consider this a dive bar, and they do not draw a large sports crowd, so it isn't a sports bar either. Â It's really just a place that doesn't fit into a specific niche; but the drinks are decent and they get the hoochies feeling saucy, so at the very least you'll get a piece if you spend at least 10 minutes in this joint.
Review Source:I honestly wasn't digging the vibe of the place and I am not referring to the actual bar or anything. The bartenders were fine, the inside was nice, and there was a billiards table. Problem was though was the vibe of the other customers. I felt like I was surrounded by people who were in their 30s and 40s and 1/4 of new 21 year olds. I felt like the older males were hitting on these new young 21 year old women. It was quite pathetic to watch. This is what sadly makes me rate the place with 3 out of 5 stars because the vibe is also very important to take in account for a bar.
Also if you want to see ghetto guys dance on the dance floor with women in very high heels... come here. You will find them =P.
I love this place. Â If Gina's on the jukebox the music is different all the time, the regulars are friendly and some are just darn...cute. Â The bartenders are friendly and the owner is a kick in the pants, so his ex-wife. Â Glad I wondered in many years ago. Â In fact, we have had many a good time here and will have many many more. Â Get down on it!!!!
Review Source:I'd been hearing stories about this mystical Hide-Away for awhile. I couldn't wait to check it out. I kept on imagining all of the quality people watching that was going to unfold before me.
Last night I finally came face to face with this talked-up supposedly "divey" lair.
And while there were some characters hanging out at the bar - the Hide-Away did not bring the dive. At all. It was mellow. The pool tables were intact. The bar had big plasma TVs hanging above it. The jukebox played Tom Petty. Even the bathrooms were cleaner than probably 3/4th of the bar bathrooms that I've been in - in San Francisco.
It was actually a slight let-down. A well kept bar with friendly bar staff. But nope - barely a sliver of "dive."
So yeah the Hide-Away is a quality place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. But if you're looking for a more "interesting" night - be sure to catch this place at a later hour (apparently a much later hour), or on a busy weekend. At least that's what I'm hoping - because I'm looking forward to another visit here - and hopefully a slew of moments - similar to the ones, which Raleigh captured so artfully in his review of the Hide-Away.
rofl. Â this place gets an unconventional 5 stars from me. Â it's definitely not for everyone. Â this place is probably a 2-3 for most people. love it though. Â my friends and i affectionately call it the shade-away in honor of all the shady characters we've encoutered there. Â the place is a bonafide nexus for mainstream folk and any and all subcultures though. Â you've got the normal people that, for whatever reason, decided not to go the city on that particular night, the punks or hoods getting out of whatever show was at the phoenix that night, i've seen a few hells angels in attendance, also a large of amount of red neck white trash types, a bunch of people that probably still live with their parents, the lbgt community is represented, and even disabled people. Â that, my friends, is diversity. Â if you stay for a while i guarantee you'll be entertained by the people on the dance floor, you'll see a fight break out, you'll see someone take a gnarly awesome fall because they're wasted, you'll get hit on by someone, you'll have to reject that someone, and you'll be fascinated that all these people can be in the same place at the same time. Â well done petaluma.
Review Source:The Hideaway is one of my favorite places in Petaluma because 1. its super trashy, 2. there was a girl line dancing to sir mix a lot wearing a fake hair piece ponytail, and 3. a weathered old lady took pity on a sigle gal like me and bought me a beer at the bar. I laughed my ass off and had a great time.
Review Source:Maaaan, I farkin' love the Hide-Away! And to respond to the idea that it is white trash, I'm sorry but most anything that has been in Petaluma for longer than 10 years is white trash. But they clear out the pool area on Saturdays for Ladies Night. At least the last time I checked. because that is really the only reason I came here, no cover for me and my laaadies. They play some poppy stuff and we would get down, hot & sweaty and then go out on their balcony. Awesome.
This is the kind of shit you don't find in San Francisco. Or if you do you have to look really hard. Something unpretentious, with poppy music, decent drinks and the possibility of no cover. Although Vertigo & the Holy Cow def come close.
I love this bar. Â Most of the employees have been there 10+years as well as the true Die-hard patrons.
On the weekends that fall on the 1st and the 15th you get the coastee's in (either bad or good - depending on how you look at it) Â The drinks are pour'd generous and are reasonable. Â The bartenders are a lot like the crew from Cheers. Â
Yes, it can be white trash (I can't tell you the number of times I've seen women in there wearing shirts that were backless/halters with bras that were not) Â but it always proves to be a great time. Â
Plus you've got DJ Fabian there frequently, and who doesn't love him?
What more could you want from a cornerstone locals bar in the old part of town?
