This one is a winner for breakfast.  There really aren't that many choices for breakfast in Crescent City. This one is so good we ate there two days in a row.  Biscuits and gravy were excellent.  The biscuits alone were just great, fluffy and fresh.  Omelettes were just great and the hot cakes were giant size, covered the plate.  Kids had plenty to eat and loved it.  Be informed that it has an old local diner atmosphere; the locals eat there regularly, evident by the owner and patrons parting often exchanging names.  We loved it.

I've stopped in here for breakfast (they are also open for lunch) when traveling through over the past 5 years and they always treated me well. Fast service (not that it's super busy but they can fill up the tables quick). Hot tasty food. Nothing fancy but not too harsh on the wallet either. Once when we asked about a menu item the waitress (who is there every time) brought us out a plate on the house, which we happily devoured! Def. plan on going again next time I go through.

The Historic Hiouchi Cafe has been a favorite food stop, especially when I stay at the Hiouchi Motel next door. I enjoy the food and feel of the small community there. It's an older establishment, but I like eating there as much as any place in the Crescent City area. They now have a website with days, hours and new phone number.

Great staff - BLT and fries were the best I've had for a long time. Great help to find local services for an "out-of-towner".  I'd recommend this place as a good lunch stop while enjoying the magnificent nearby giant redwoods.

If breakfast is what your looking for this place ROCKS.. giant pancakes, homemade gravy, crispy hashbrowns, etc.. one of the best breakfast stops I have made in a long time and I will plan on stopping next time I am on 199.

They are back!  Same great menu and the same great food.  They are open Wednesday through Sunday and closed Monday and Tuesday.  Check out their blueberry pancakes.  They are to die for.  It's now called the Historic Hiouchi Cafe, but nothing else has changed.  If you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price, the Historic Hiouchi Cafe is the place to be.  By the way, their phone number has changed.  it is (707) 458-3445.

Hiouchi cafe is closed.  Sign in the window tell you the looks have been changed.

The food will fill you up.  If you've been sleeping in the woods for a week a visit to the hooch won't disappoint.  The cook cares about what he's doing.  I wouldn't bring small children.  The wait staff have little patience for it.

Friendly homestyle service.  A small gem in the woods. Giant pancakes!  The chef made my order just right.

Great little cafe located next to the Hiouchi Motel, just down the road a ways from Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.

We came here a couple times for breakfast, which was pretty decent.  They offer breakfast specials, and one morning I ordered the $5.99 special which comes with 2 eggs, 2 buttermilk pancakes, and bacon or sausage.  The coffee isn't too good, but oh well...can't have everything I suppose ;-)

I saw a sign in the window that said "help wanted" so I inquired if they needed a cook.  Our waitress told me that yes, they did need a cook, and I told her that they should look no further, that I was the best cook around. Haha!

This is mostly a local hangout - not too many tourists here except for those passing through on their way to Oregon or the redwoods.

Passing through on Hwy  199, the only cafe in a very small town named Hiouchi, outside of Jedediah Smith State Park.  Try the smoke pork chop.  It's the bomb.  They only open for breakfast and lunch during the week and lunch on the weekends. The locals sit in one room and the tourist sit in the other.  Reminds me of segregation.  Big breakfast!  Everything made fresh, nothing from the freezer or microwaved.  They use Taylor's sausage.  I had the juiciest chicken apple links and the hash brown were crispy.  There are pictures of the local men with their big fat fish.  Don't b_ about the coffee.  It's a small town.
