If you like beer and would enjoy drinking it in a laid-back, cozy bar with good snacks and very friendly and informative service, then definitely stop in here. Jake and his wife have done a terrific job with the place and I plan on returning often.
Wanting to stick to the taps, I started with the Rushing Duck Naysayer, a mild pale ale and then moved on to the hopier Peekskill IPA. Both beers were new to me (and local, too) and the bartender's description was right on. My friend had a Dogfish Head My Antonia, a pilsner he very much enjoyed. There were many more bottled choices but we were happy with what we drank so didn't even get to them. Although we didn't have them, there were some nice (if decidedly fewer) choices for wine.
There is also food, again with a local emphasis. My friend had an heirloom tomato and basil appetizer, which might have been the hit of the evening. We both had veggie burgers on toasted pita with hummus that were tasty. My wife had the Mediterranean platter with olives, hummus and baba ganoush. The baba was not so great - not smoky enough and too mild - but the hummus was tasty, if also a little mild, and served with very fresh carrot and red pepper strips.
The atmosphere is inviting, homey, and unassuming. Works by local artists hang on the walls. On Saturday nights there is live music. All in all, a great place and a welcome addition to the area.
