I have eaten Here a few times. This is probably my most preferred place to eat in town. My Service has always been excellent. The food has been perfect every time. I try something new each time I go and have yet to be disappointed. The only negative experienced is drunk rednecks, but what do expect in Florida.
Review Source:Love this restaurant, as they are very dog friendly and the staff is always helpful and accomidating. Have always enjoyed the food and their Blue Moon drafts are the coldest in town. Â That said... the outdoor patio used to be comfortable and pleasant and I'd look forward to relaxing at their round tables. Bring back the old style. You may be able to hold more people out there at one time, but when you lose your customers, it's not really a gain. However, in an attempt to cram more people into the area, they removed the comfortable patio chairs, umbrellas and round tables. They have been replaced with hard, uncomfortable and cheap looking picnic tables. Not only did the people who applied the finish do an incredibly crappy job, but now the tables are all warping due to the intense summer sun and there are no longer any umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. I have friends who go here also and no one has said they like the change. It has definitely decreased my frequency of visits. Management: Please get rid of the unsightly, cheap and uncomfortable tables and bring back the round patio style tables with cushioned chairs.
Review Source:Recent Health Inspection showed they were Critical for facilities to maintain proper temperature. They were also at Risk for food out of temperature, toxic items stored properly, food protection, cross contamination. The Inspecyers returned the following day with no violations. This usually means they had to be closed for a day.
Service-My server Amy was sub par to average. When I asked her about the Tues. special she explained what it came w/and told me it was $12.99. Funny. All their adds as well as the billboard outside their restaurant says $10.99. She checked on me periodically and when I ordered I requested mayo. I was served tarter sauce. I had to track her done to get it exchanged. She only had 3-4 tables at any given time, and I observed sitting at the back of the bar speaking w/employees in btween taking care of her customers. One of those times she was even eating!
Cleanliness. My both was dirty. And I observed an employee cleaning 2 tables with no disinfectent, simply wiping them both w/the same towel. Unfortunately, he had cleaned off condiments on the first table and then used the same rag on the next table. Ahhhh...NO!
I ordered the crab cake sandwich w/coleslaw. The cole slaw was good, but what ever substance they used to hold it together with was in a pool in the bottom of the cup. The sandwich was surprisingly good. It held together well when I cut it in 1/2 which is a good sign. No falling apart at all. And the crab cake was the same size of the bun. Worth the $9.00 However there was no to very little seasoning in/on the crab cake.
Although H&H bills itself as an English pub type place it is, as observed in another review, pretty much straight America pub grub, albeit slightly more upscale than the neighborhood bar. Â And the food is fine, if plebian. Â I have fallen in love with the Mean Green Burger, however, as I have never before seen a processed hamburger (actually not bad, although it still should have been a hand prepared one) piled so high with corned beef and coleslaw!
Service is spotty, good one time and not so good the next. Â It shouldn't be necessary to have to flag down a waitress every time the drink glass is low. Â Parking is troublesome; their lot is too small by half and cars overflow into an adjacent grass lot. Â Fortunately, I haven't been there in the muddy season.
The ambiance looks nice in photos but there is no sound absorption and the place is noisy as all get out. Â And call first to ensure they are not running the rowdy and over the top loud "trivia" night, which appears to be a weekly event. (I got caught in that once and they are lucky it is not being considered in my rating!)
Having been spoiled by living in big cities with great restaurants, I would give this place a 2, but as there isn't too much aside from the national chains in Ocala, H&H gets bumped to a 3.
H&H is a very American restaurant. Hamburgers, ribs, sandwiches, wraps, salads. Nothing too inventive or out-of-the-ordinary but it's a good answer for something more on east 40.
I ordered a chicken wrap with coleslaw and veggies. The veggies were nice, the coleslaw was meh, and the wrap itself was pretty un-tasty. Just because you add a mayo, half a tomato and iceberg lettuce doesn't make a wrap work. I also ordered the seafood gumbo, which is a bit expensive for its size but with some pepper added it jazzed right up.
Others in our group went with the ribs and coleslaw, and those were pretty dang good. They were fall off the bone and marinaded in Guinness. Another in our group ordered a fish sandwich and fries, and the fish seemed to be good while the fries were pretty potato-y. The portions were large and left us full.
Their seasonal eggnog martini is nice; rimmed with a caramel glaze, it's fresh and not too overpowering. They had some other great drink specials as well with a good beer selection.
We went around 3pm a few days before Christmas, but the bar was still half-full and about four tables were filled with families. I hear the place gets absolutely packed for dinner (it's still a step above from the sub-par franchises), and I can see the attraction. Not bad for Ocala's offerings.
As you can see on this trip to Tampa we were making sure to hit the good food places..
Food took a bit longer to get out than I would have liked. Â The completely did not submit one of our guests order. Then that order did not come out correct.. Â But in the end they made it right with us..
I had filet mignon , it was cooked to perfection, the aged beef melted in my mouth in its deep pink medium rare state..
They kept my drink full and delighted my palate.. Â I will stop in again when I am in the area..
The first time we visited here, it was fabulous. That was in 2010. The fish was delicious. We sat near the fireplace. This current visit was disappointing. The hostess said it would be a 10 minute wait, but it took us 35 min to sit down. The escargot appetizer was good. The tomato soup is tasty. My steak tips were cold and rare - I sent them back but they still came back undercooked. The shepherds pie was good. Service was slow. Won't bother to return.
