Came here with the bf for dinner to check the place out for the first time and to redeem a voucher for a free entree I got for my birthday (sign up for their mailing list). Â I had no expectations so I had a perfectly adequate dinner.
I probably won't come back unless I have another coupon and I would probably stick to appetizers (minus the nachos).
AMBIANCE
It felt old. The place was dimly lighted (not in a romantic way but in a we can't afford LED lighting way), the carpet was dark and dingy, and the wooden furniture and style looked very old school. We came here for dinner on a weekday night and the diners were mostly middle aged to elderly folks.
It was strange because there website was modern, minimalist, and cool. The place looks like where polyester pantsuits come to die.
SERVICE
Our waitress was nice and friendly. She was very accommodating and took my voucher for a free entree without any hassle. Nothing bad but nothing great about the service. Our waters could have been refilled more frequently.
FOOD
-Spicy Chicken & Avocado Egg Rolls with sour cream $5.99
VERY GOOD!
Crispy, oily (in a deliciously fattening way), and creamy. The chicken was flavorful and juicy and the whole egg roll was awesome. Get it!
-Ultimate Nachos $9.99
Tortilla chips topped with dried up Cheddar and jalapeno jack cheeses. There were chunks of spicy chili con carne, slices of pickled jalapeno from a jar, so few cilantro I hardly noticed they were there, tomatoes, scallions, sour cream, a big spoonful of guacamole and salsa.
It was not terrible but it wasn't very "ultimate" tasting. It was mediocre and I regretted ordering it. I don't recommend ordering the nachos. Get another appetizer.
-Chicken Tender Platter $14.99
You get a choice of Traditional, Buffalo, or Thai Chili. The platter comes with fries and honey mustard.
My bf had a craving for buffalo chicken and the platter hit the spot. It was OK and there was a good amount of food. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this dish though.
-Cactus Bowl (22 oz. made for 2) $10.50
Sailor Jerry Rum, amaretto, triple sec, grenadine, pineapple juice and Bacardi 151 Rum floated on top. Â
Sweet an tasty but it's mostly ice and so watered down you have to drink the whole thing by yourself on an empty stomach to feel anything resembling a buzz. It was fun to drink from a giant bowl though.
Really nothing special. Just like any typical  American Dinner places. Highlighted by the many dark wood furniture.
- Server didn't do much. (it didn't help that the tables in the booth was long so he couldn't reach over)
-Price range is around 10-20 a dish
-Alcoholic Drink prices were tad high. near8-10 dollars for small glass
-Shrooms were good for app
Decent place to get lunch in the Westbury area. Â The service can be a hit or miss. Â Generally speaking, the waiters are friendly...but they can move a little faster in my opinion. Â I recommend the white bean hummus combo with the spinach salad. Â I don't eat meat, but I hear the chicken tortilla soup is great. Â The restaurant is good but certainly nothing special and a bit overpriced.
Review Source:after a long afternoon of shopping, my boyfriend and I decided to go get some food... Â we knew that at 7pm on a saturday there would be a wait... the wait was only 20 minutes..
we only waited about 12 minutes not too long, aside from it being very cold waiting in the inner doorway we made the best of it.
when we were following the hostess to be seated,  there was some confusion because the table she was supposed to take us to already had people in it.  I understand that things get hectic on a saturday night so we just bared with her for the next few minutes  before she was able to find us a table. Â
as soon as she got us a table she was very apologetic, we did not make a stink or anything  we just did not want to stand where servers would be coming with food..
not a minute later the manager came over, Â he was very sweet and also apologetic, mind you we both had smiles and were just grateful they found us a spot to eat...
now i know i was going to yelp this place regardless but the manager said any appetizer you guys would like us on me, Â he was very sincere and i even said you dont have to do that, Â but we were very thankful.
when the waitress came over she was notified by the manager i guess of the situation and she also stated that the appetizer is on us and asked which one we would like.
she was one of those waitresses that came over at the right time when you needed her to be in the vicinity... just love when that happens, whether it was to ask about the food, or get a refill on the drinks.
since i could not finish my jambalaya i had it doggy bagged where i like that they bring you the box to bag it yourself.
i was feeling a sweet tooth and decided to try the new carrot cake in a jar...
very intrigued by this jar that they brought over... but it was a standard size mason jar
the dessert was warm  had coconut and some white icing like cream to it.... very moist! layered to pretty..
i provided pictures of course!
now i did not even finish it all the way, so when she back over i asked her is it possible i can take the rest home? Â she was like sure ill bring you a bag... she let me take home the jar!
and said when i wanted to reheat it, to put it in a pot of boiling water
its that feeling when you get to take a fancy glass home from buying an expensive drink... i am so grateful we went here....
but for a busy saturday night the food and service was excellent.. Good Job Houlihans!
Two years ago. That was my last visit to this Houlihan's. At the time I had threw in the towel after my wife received ice-cold vegetables, and the careless staff that  did nothing to remedy the problem, only helped to keep us away. I've heard people say time can cure old wounds.  So, after a two year hiatus, has anything changed?  I'm happy to report yes.  For this visit, we went at 6pm on a Friday evening, just beating the dinner rush.  In and seated at a large cosy booth.  A look around and I remembered that this restaurant was renovated about 10 years back.  It still looked good.  I really like the atmosphere, Its like a Miller's Ale House for grown ups. No big-screen tvs in your face.  Menu appears to have been updated. Wifey orders Coriander Salmon & Veggies,  I go with Fish Tacos.  Both dishes were very good and of a high quality.  Veggies this time were vibrant and fresh.  Mashed Potatoes, were good, but wife complained about the large amount of potato vs.  fish.  As for my Fish Tacos,  I really liked them.  Side of Nachos and dipping salsa was also fresh tasting.  Our server / waiter  did a competent job and was no nonsense, which I like.  I was very pleased with the bill being under $40.00 which included two beverages.  Think I'll put this place back into my wheelhouse.  Houlihan's you've redeemed yourself -  for now.
Review Source:Went back for lunch and menu has changed. Still one of the more upscale chains but there's quite a range of items that can be hit or miss. Flatbreads are ok but lately less tasty. And the small plates are actually ok but really are small plates.
Tried their strawberry salad which was decent. And have tried their burgers and sandwiches. All ok. Service can be hit or miss depending on day etc.
I went here a few months ago and it was absolutely horrible..served our appetizer salad and dinner within 5 minutes of each other..server sucked and took almost a half an hour to come back to our table after we were done eating to ask if we wanted desert. Â We said no and asked for the check. That took another 10 minutes, and instead of cleaning up all of our plates on the table, the waiter came back to the table and asked if we were done with filling out the check. Â Never going back to this dump again.
Review Source:We don't go here often. Â The last time we were there the server tripped and spilt several large sodas on me and in my pocketbook. Â The manager took a large percentage off the bill and with receipts, paid for the replacement of some soaked makeup and dry cleaning of my sweater. Â Accidents happen and the manager and staff went above and beyond to make it better for me.
Review Source:I came here on a Sunday night while staying in town for work and had an okay time. Â The bartenders were helpful and the food was pretty good but nothing really stood out to me. Â I go to the one in Addison all the time and it's a much more vibrant atmosphere and the food is usually better. Â I will be back if in the area but not driving out of my way to stop in.
Review Source:Came to celebrate a late-night moot courting victory and ended up having a feast of small proportions. Â Super sampler (wings, stuffed mushrooms, potato skins) started us off alongside a triple serving of pulled pork sliders. Â The sliders are actually about $3+ a piece and you can get 3 sliders for about $9+. Since there were 4 of us, the waitress was more than willing to up the mini-burger order (to 4) to fit our needs (instead of strictly adhering to the menu-conforming number 3). Â Brownie points there for helpfulness.
Already fast approaching 1am, we decided to stick to just the appetizers. Â We did get some of their signature "pickle fries". Â More brownie points. Â
We topped off the meal with a shared massive (vanilla ice cream and snickers candy bar) wedge that I think they make in-house. Â It's so big that I honestly can't call it a slice so, if you like your scrumptious sweets, come check this place out.
Tried the Cornbeef and cabbage with red skin potato's. Instead of mustard they presented what tasted like horseradish sauce.
Everything was good  but felt the Cornbeef was not tender. All the guys loved it and did not care it was not tender! LOL Â
My favorite is OMG the Bailey's Irish Cream Pie! All I can say is wow!! Â Taking a point off for the Cornbeef!!
No bueno!
Usually this place is pretty good -- as long as you come when it's not busy. For whatever reason everyone on LI decided to eat here tonight and it took about an hour for us to get a table (for 7).
As for the food, they've definitely done better in the past. I normally get the Ahi Tuna Salad, which is supposed to have some fresh banana slices in it and this time it didn't. My bf's prime rib was way over cooked (he asked for it medium-rare and it came out medium well. His sweet potato fries were served cold.
Service on the other hand was pretty good. Megan was pretty responsive and brought us refills without even having us ask for them first.
I think that after this experience I would only visit this location in the off hours (late lunch or early dinner) rather than the prime dinner rush time.
Out of all of the chain restaurants, this is one of my favs. I ordered takeout last week (grilled rosemary chicken) and it was great. Still warm enough to eat when I got home so obviously it wasn't sitting out too long. The staff is friendly an attentive. This is great place to go eat on a late night.
Review Source:Houlihan's food is consistently good across the board. The only thing that sets aside each location of a franchise is its service, so my review is on that (the hostess, specifically).
I ordered takeout today and the hostess was horrible to deal with. When I called in the order, she left me on hold for much longer than you should ever leave a customer on hold for. When I got there, I saw her take other calls and put those people on hold while she did nothing.
My food which was supposed to take 15 minutes took around 45 (there were NO other patrons in the restaurant at this time). Members of the wait staff came to try and help me while the host was off doing who knows what. It reached a point where I told her I needed a refund. She scrambled off to the kitchen to bring out my order which was luke warm. I came back in to work having pissed away my free time before a meeting so the order ending up sitting on my desk for two hours.
This location will NOT be an option for me while I'm at work.
Be aware that Houlihan's is a multi-purpose chain restaurant. Â It offers a massive menu with a variety of dishes and many different styles of cuisine, however, most of the main dishes are below average.
At Houlihan's you can order steak, BBQ, Italian, seafood, even Cajun, but none of these styles of food are done well. Â Although most of the main courses are lacking, the appetizers are decent. Â Your best bet would be to order a few appetizers, sit at the bar, and enjoy a couple of drinks, skipping the main dishes entirely.
The service here is fine, and the dining area is sprawling; this makes for a comfortable dining experience, however, it is nothing special. Â
If you decide to eat at a chain restaurant, perhaps a trip to Chili's or Friday's might be a little better, but probably not by much.
Houlihan's, another chain restaurant to cater to the masses, right? Not so. It's friendly enough to cater to the family with kid-friendly meals, and cozy and private enough to have a semi-romantic dinner with its dark wood trimming and low-lights. Or casual enough to come out with some friends for a nice dinner or to hang out by the sectioned off bar for some drinks and to watch the game. Somehow the ambiance of Houlihan's works.
I've been here a couple times for drinks by the bar and late night desserts, but I've never actually came here for dinner. After much hesitation, I was finally persuaded to come here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I ordered the Smoked Bacon Cheeseburger ($9.75) with sweet potato fries (+$1.00). The burger was simple, yet very juicy and flavorful. The cheddar was not too sharp, the bacon was not too salty. Everything paired so well together, making for a decent and enjoyable burger. The sweet potato fries were standard at best, and considering that it cost an extra dollar, I'd settle for their normal fries.
But what really stood out were the Disco Fries ($3.99), Canadian Poutine style with gooey mozzarella, slow cooked and tender beef pot roast, and brown gravy. Mmmm, this side dish was rocking, full of flavor from the tender beef and gravy. Add that to some nice gooey and stringy mozzarella, amazingly good. They seriously need to combine the Smoked Bacon Cheeseburger and Disco Fries to make for one awesome meal.
Table service was great as well. Our waitress was very friendly taking our orders; and attentive, refilling our drinks constantly, almost too much. And she always followed up with us and handled our bill promptly.
Houlihan's, you definitely are a solid book in my choice for some good eats. Those Disco Fries will definitely have me coming back. And if you haven't already, don't forget to sign up for the Houlihan's club for a free appetizer, free entree on your birthday, and other special offers!!
OK yeah its a chain restaurant, but it doesnt taste like it is. The menu has been vastly improved since the last time I stepped foot in this establishment. They have lots of small plate apps that you could order and share with your friends. The dishes are more sophisticated than at places like Applebee's and Fridays. We went during a weekday and they had drink specials. If you want to hit up a late night dining spot and are around that area definitely try Houlihan's.
Review Source:I think this is my first chain restaurant review. Â So why did I pick Houlihan's to be my first? Â Because I like it the most.
I can always be won over by mashed potatoes and they just have great mashed potatoes. Â What can I say? Â I guess I'm easy. Â The rest of the food is pretty good, too.
I will be honest and say I haven't been here in years, but the service was always good and there was usually a wait, but they were good about keeping you informed, etc. Â Several rooms, which all have different atmospheres -- by the bar is obviously more laid back, I'd say the back room is more family oriented, and the front is more for friends/dates. Â Out of all the (trillion) chains in this area, I'd say it's the best.
Went here for lunch with friends. Â The place is big, but it has a broken up lay out, so it does not feel like one huge dinning hall. It's nicely decorated and not very loud or bright.
Lunch special prices were very good. Food was ok. Â I had the BBQ Salmon Lunch Salad. Had a good flavor overall, but the salmon was dry and bore a strongly resemblance to something that would tumble out of a box with the Gordon's Fisherman on it. Made the mistake of looking up the nutritional info when I got home... 34 grams of fat! What the heck do they put in that thing?
Waiter was very nice. Offered my daughter free Ice Cream.
Better than Applebee's and Friday's, but still not my thing.
Great chain restaurant. Lovely decor, not too noisy or obnoxious.
The Ultimate Lemonade made with Ketel 1 is great on a hot summer day. The chicken caesar salad is too, as well as the french fries with cheese & bacon. Oh, and the ranchy dipping sauce for the fries is excellent. The buffalo chicken sandwich is good, as are the quesadillas. Waitstaff is friendly.
They have a lunch special where they supposedly get you  in and out super quick without compromising quality, so if you work nearby it might be worth it to come here & try it. I came here for lunch once with my parents since we were in the area & when we declined that special, we were a little worried we'd be rushed anyway. We weren't.
Last Friday, we decided to celebrate my Dad's birthday by going out to dinner. Our original plan was to eat at P.F. Changs but we weren't patient enough to wait for 40 minutes there (being a 3 person party) and the subsequent restaurants Cheesecake Factory, Benihanna's etc. had ridiculous wait times as well. So we decided to give Houlihans some attention. It had been my first time so I was looking forward to trying something new. The wait was 15 minutes but we were seated in 5. We started off with the Asian lettuce wraps. I thought they were awesome but mom remarked that P.F. Changs had better. For our main courses I ordered the Oriential Chicken Stirfry, Mom had the Salmon and Dad had scallops with risotto. I took a bite and was astounded by how bland it was. When the waitress came around and asked how everything was I felt bad but had to tell her it was bland and I've never complained about something being bland; either I like it or I don't, it has the ingredient i asked them to omit or its cold. Never bland. She offered to give me more of the sauce but looking down I saw the rice was practically swimming in the sauce. So she offered to bring me something else and I said I'd have the rosemary chicken. She was kind enough to bring me one right away (she took someone else's order) The mashed potatoes were good, the vegies were good, the chicken was juicy but again no taste. I couldn't believe it. Beside that dad complained about a pina colada tasting weird as well as a strawberry daiquiri and also said the risotto was very salty. While the wait staff was incredibly kind and our waitress did her best to accommodate us, in the end it just didn't work out. Â As disappointing as it was we're pretty chill and I'm not one to yell at a waitress over something she has no control over so I held my peace took my food to go and had it the next day with some BBQ sauce.
Review Source:You see...I have this issue...I do not know how to count my party of however many people so when I do call-ahead seating I don't know how many people to tell them will be showing up.
But all of that nonsense did not matter when I got to Houlihan's! Â They made sure to have us seated in a timely fashion (even though the manager gave us a false alarm at first) and accomodated our ever-growing party. Â
The food was good as chain restaurant food can get, we split a bottle of wine which was nice, and the atmosphere was very laid-back and relaxed...not rushed at all. Â Not too shabby for a chain restaurant (and we all know how I feel about those). Â I'll come back.
uummm... This place is very hard to categorize.
It's not meant to be a bar hangout spot, but the bar is a pretty good set up. The food was decent, but no one I know say's "Lets go to Houlihans for their great (fill in the blank)".
Overall, place to meet up with some old friends and hang out.. 4 stars for the Decor.
For a chain restaurant, this place is excellent. Â The seating is spacious and the food is good. Â The menu declares what dishes have nut allergens in it, which I appreciate. Â
The staff is excellent. Â The waiters I've had are friendly and responsive. Â One time, a colleague I was eating with left his credit card, and the front desk had it waiting for him when we returned to pick it up.
At the bar, you can get a keyboard and compete against other patrons in a trivia contest. Â Fun times.
Family Restaurant.
I am willing to bet I reviewed this place about 2 years back, yet I apparently didn't - go figure. Â I think I'm starting to suffer from C.R.S....
This is one of the better Houlihan's out there - but the help at the front desk tends to be pokey. Â You can walk in and there will be 4 of them all chatting to each other and on the cell phones and you have to actually wave to get their attention. Â This has happened a few times now...
The place is rather new so it really looks decent - being new and all. Â The bar is very good sized and the bartenders know what they are doing but to be honest, all the fancy drinks aren't my thing- just give me a rum and coke and I'm a happy camper.
The food is very good for a chain. Â I haven't had anything there yet that was bad tasting or looking.
I actually like this place to meet up with friends after work as it is centrally located to all of us.
Big parking area behind and on the side.
Call it "Intellectual Curiosity" - that's the best way to put it.
When I asked my friend to distinguish the new wave of American chain restaurants, here were his estimates:
Applebees is Marshalls
Benigans is TJ Maxx
TGIFridays is Target
and Hooligans is Kohls.
Top of the food chain, right?
I was unimpressed with our burgers. The meat had a good taste to it, but the buns were crumbly near-stale wheat buns. They did not compliment the burger, they insulted it. I bet that prime burger would like to take a swing at the wheat bun and whoever the buffoon was that sandwiched it.
Apps are fried and not worth the artery clogging. Dipping sauces were cheap. The food has potential, but in no way lives up to the American bars it mimics.
Members of the staff seemed nice.
I would have loved to make Hoolihan's my new hot spot. If it had fresh ingredients and love put into the food's preparation, I would have been superfan number 1. Unfortunately, that is one title I can not claim.
