I've been to H.O.M.E. twice, once on a Friday night and once on a Saturday night. Â Both experiences were nothing special.
The bar is HUGE and is divided into two spaces: the main sports bar area and a back room with a stage for performances and dancing. Â The main area is really spread out. There is only one bar, which is a square shape with about four to five bar tenders inside. Â You would think it would be easy to get a drink, but it is not. Â The price for the drinks is average and they do have drink specials and a wide selection. Â What didn't impress me was when the bartender told me my drink was $5.50, I gave her $6.00 in cash and she never returned with my change even after I tried flagging her down. Â I thought it was rude to assume she was going to get a tip. Â Yes, I would have tipped, but that is just not a good business practice.
The Friday night I was there, the back room was opened since a DJ started a set at midnight. Â There were some sort of glow sticks that they were handing out. Â My friends seemed to be enjoying themselves. Â Naturally, it was super loud back there and you couldn't hear anything/find anyone if they disappeared into the crowd. Â I also must have seen four or five people get kicked out while I was there. Â Even the guys I was with noticed. Â I'm not sure what all these people could have done to get kicked out. Â Be careful and watch yourself!
The Saturday night I was there, the back room was closed and the front room, while huge, was super crowded. Â It was difficult to maneuver through people and even harder to get a drink, the whole point of a bar. Â There was a DJ who was playing music I enjoyed, but since the back room wasn't open there was minimal dance space in front of the DJ booth, which was surrounded by tables people had reserved. Â Again, it was really, really loud to the point where you could barely carry on a conversation with the person next to you.
I had to pay cover both times ($5) which I think is ridiculous for a bar in the suburbs. Â At least it's not as bad as $7 at Durty Nelly's. Â My friend (girl) who arrived after midnight didn't have to pay. Â Another friend of mine was told he couldn't enter with the jacket he was wearing (somewhat raggedy, but not in shambles or anything) and was told he wouldn't have to pay cover if he left his coat in the car. Â They're weird about cover. Â FYI.
I wouldn't ever suggest to come here, but if my friends wanted to go I wouldn't refuse. Â I'm headed there tonight for a 'Girls Night Out' event so we'll see how that pans out. Â Hopefully it will change my view for the positive.
