My first time in. Â From North Kingstown, and had been showing out-of-state family around Jamestown and Newport. Â Since we had kids with us, we needed casual fare.
I had a cheeseburger and fries. Â The cheeseburger was good, and the fries were really good. Â
The kids and parent had pizzas and and they LOVED them. Â
The cook/counter person was nice and courteous.
Will definitely go back and recommend the place.
We live on Jamestown, within walking distance from House of Pizza. Â Their calzones are delicious, their prices are great and the owner is very pleasant. Â He accommodates any request. Â I do not understand the negative reviews. Â People need to think twice before they give anything less than 4 stars. Â This is someone's business and unless the food and/or the service is really bad, a 1 or 2-star rating is like saying you would rather starve than eat here again. Â The pizza is good.
Review Source:Every time I make my way to Jamestown, I come here to get a Clam Casino. Seriously one of my favorite pizzas ever.
People gotta understand... This is NOT Bertuccis. This ain't your flimsy thin crust pizza (which is fine); this is Greek style pizza - flaky, slightly thicker crust and crispy on the bottom. Though, it's the thinnest Greek style I've seen (a plus in my book)
Only giving a four because the pizza is not that large and is pretty pricey for pizza, but 2.5 stars is nonsense!
R U KIDDING ME? I was gonna do 4 Stars but I'm bumpin it up to level out the avg of what it SHOULD BE. My god, these peeps have never suffered San Francisco pizza....
Small pepperoni and onion order it "well done" it's crispy and it's BOMB it'll knock your socks off, guaranteed.
Crispy awesome fries. Plain cheese is delicious, crust never slides down, cheese never slides off in one chunk (just use your incisors) and ummmm yeah. Always crispy and delicious. In fact, I want one now!
We visited the House of Pizza for the second time tonight. Â (The last time was over 2 years ago.) Â We will not return. Â First, the time between ordering and getting our food was WAY TOO long both times. Â The chicken parm sub I got the first time was decent - that is why I gave 2 stars.
Tonight we ordered the Chicken Margarita pizza (sm. $9.95), a cheese pizza (lg $10.00) and a greek salad. Â The two pizzas were so similar as to be indistinguishable. Â The price difference was COMPLETELY unjustified. Â The crust was crisp like Greek pizza should be, but it was also overcooked, so one cancelled out any good of the other. Â The Greek dressing for the salad was pretty good, but the salad was made with iceberg lettuce and had so many bad pieces in it, I finally gave up eating it.
I went to House of Pizza while working in Jamestown so I could avoid the East Ferry Deli crowd. Not that they're bad, just that in the summer that place is crowded and full of every tourist on the island.
Do you like pizza with a thin dough and a crisp crust that is substantial but not too big? How about Chourizo? Do you like eggplant that is tasty, crispy, fried and not goopy? Do you like down to the earth servers and cooks who remember you and your order and are friendly? By the way, the waitress is a Pizza place server, you get your paper plates, pie on an aluminum pan and you grab your own drinks. The big menu is on the wall to help you decide if you're in line. Call in your order if you want to have it waiting for you when you get there to sit down or take to go. If you've been there before they don't expect you to pay until after your meal, otherwise cash out immediately. Are you a New Englander then you know how the local pizza place works and NE friendliness is. I love the simple tables especially the one that used to have the article about Jim Carrey and Me, Myself and Irene filming in Jamestown that was by the window that looked out on the sidewalk. By the way a great place to tourist watch. The Greek Salad is huge their Greek Dressing savory. Their grinders are delicious, traditional Rhode Island fare.
I like that you can see the owner slide a pie into the oven and the canned drinks in the refrigerator. The Providence Phoenix isn't always delivered on Wednesday (when is it in South County?) but they have it. Locals, the working men, kids out on vacation and tourists come in for lunch. And ever since Bomes' Theater Restaurant went out of business (I so miss them,) there are fewer and fewer affordable casual places on the island. What SCite wants to cross the bridge for lunch?
Rob is right that Via Via has good pizza. I don't agree that JHOP doesn't have good pizza. I like it, their atmosphere and their friendliness. I miss going there for lunch now.
