Honest-out in Poolesville is a really good Chinese restaurant. Â My wife is a cook and usually finds restaurant food too fatty, to plain, and too expensive, but she loved this place-we both did. Â Each dish had unique interesting flavors and maintained interest, and I felt really good afterwards. Â This is healthy food carefully prepared to order by a good cook. Â The room is quite nice-interesting pictures, quiet, and I was impressed with the lovely Chinese plates. Â Service is very prompt and friendly. Â There is a full bar and they served a rather nice chardonnay in a full glass at a good price. Â Didn't dare try the Japanese food, but will next time...can't wait to go back...feels like being invited to someone's home for a very good dinner.
Review Source:they opened as a restaurant with a small bar in a room off to the side. Since then, the small bar area has become the restaurant/sitting area, and the large dining room has been converted to a full bar. Hence, I would describe this place as "a bar that serves Chinese food" Â
If you are looking for a classy crowd to sip cocktails with, this is not the place for you. To some people, this place may seem sketchy, but the regulars seem to be very friendly. If it is around any holiday season (thanksgiving, Christmas) or summer, expect to see lots of college students.
The staff is very friendly, and the bartender Bert is a nice guy.
I havent eaten much food here, only when ive been drinking, but the spicy wontons are damn good.
I have eaten here twice and I am pleasantly surprised. Surprised that there is a sushi place in such a small town and surprised that is any good. There is a genuine feel of a privately owned restaurant, no fake, mass produced decor. You feel like you are truly sitting in the dining room of your adoptive Chinese grandma. Partly because, the restaurant is converted from a home like many authentic businesses in Poolesville. So you're really sitting in the dining room of someone's Chinese grandma.
The sushi is tasty, not the best I've ever had but they make up for it with their pan-Asian cuisine. Last night, I had the Dynamite roll with salmon and my spouse had unagi sashimi. Mine was too spicy (and I do like spicy) but the eel melted in my mouth. It had no fishy flavor and it was attractive. I mentioned to the chef that my sushi was too spicy to hardly consume with out breathing fire and he showed me the bottle of Chinese hot sauce (Sriracha) that was used. WHOO! Not for the faint of heart!
The hot sauce is not the only thing they were heavy handed on. I ordered a Margarita and it was almost clear, I kid you not. See through. While it was a great deal to get so much Tequila in one glass, I politely asked for more mixer and they gladly obliged.
We also indulged in the Egg Foo Young and it was so rich and filling, the two of us together could not finish it. I loved every bite I could manage. The sauce was creamy, the eggs were fluffy with seasoning and veggies.
Our waitress, who is also the owner, was extremely nice and warm. Service was fast, we never had to wait long for anything and the food was hot. There was a local band playing there too! Another pleasant surprise for a rainy Saturday evening in small town. I will recommend the place to others as I love supporting locally owned businesses.
We are regulars here, but I forget to check in sometimes. Â :) Â This is by far some of the best Chinese take out ever! Â I have thoroughly enjoyed everything that I've eaten here, including the sesame chicken, pineapple chicken, general tso's chicken, and fried rice. Â I absolutely love their crab rangoon! Â I also found out recently that you can request "all white meat" when ordering a chicken dish! Â I never would've known, but the lady that took my order actually asked me for my preference! Â That is spectacular service. Â If you choose to dine in, I would say that the ambiance is a little odd as it is on the first floor of a house. Â The dining room is usually empty, except for a little girl that watches TV while her parents work, and the bar is usually packed. Â The portions are large enough that it becomes two meals for me. Â There are not many options in Poolesville, but this is our "go to!"
Review Source:We've been enjoying this great pan-Asian food since the restaurant opened. Â The owners, Linda and Chen, are super friendly and greet their regulars by name. Â We usually order a Thai dish, some sushi, and a few Chinese dishes. Â Chen does a delicious Maryland Roll which I highly recommend. Â We often rely on House of Poolesville for catering our get-togethers. We can count on the order being ready on time, and our family and friends always remark on how good the food is.
Review Source:The House of Poolesville recently opened in a large, Victorian-era home on Fisher Avenue. They serve Chinese food and sushi, have a large, well-stocked bar and frequently host live local bands. The restaurant is very large, its dining rooms and bar area are well-decorated and tasteful. The owners and staff are super friendly and provide excellent service.
All of this pales in comparison to the food, however. The General Tso's tofu I ordered here was by far the BEST I've ever eaten in my LIFE! Honestly. Succulent, flavorful, not too fried and greasy. It was like a big, hot, sticky plate of perfection. Their sushi is fresh and expertly prepared, their miso soup was highly recommended to me, and their appetizers were just plain delicious. Also, the house sake is great. I'm running out of adjectives, so I'll just sum it up-- GO EAT HERE.
