House Wine

Went for an adult afternoon of wine. Very good wine selection but again a poor RGV service review. Sat at table, very comfortable chairs and WAITED for service and only 2 other tables in the place, so sad. Another waiter finally arrived to tell us it might be a while until our waiter was available, REALLY?  I suggested he take our wine order and he did. Our 22 yr old son wanted to have the Soup de Jour and the waiter actually apologized and said it was carrot purée. The wine was good but small portions for a place that is new and the service wasn't rude just bad. Too bad!

After reading glowing reviews of House.Wine, my wife and I tried it and enjoyed a FABULOUS DINNER.  Our duck and brie (listed as appetizer, but my wife selected as entree) were the best we have eaten and the Yahweh (sp?) salads were delicious as well.  The Happy Hour house merlot ($4 a glass) from a small Napa Valley vineyard was quite good and we chose affordable French wines .. a beujolais (sp?) and a bordeaux... with our entrees. The service was excellent and the atmosphere comfortable, with very nice live guitar music. House Wine is now on our short list of excellent McAllen restaurants. (We live in Harlingen 30 miles away.) The tab was a bit steep for the Valley but worth it ... $108 including five glasses of wine and a tip. (Visited February 2013)

Nice little restaurant, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful decorations. But the food was really disappointing. I ordered the smoked salmon fettucini.  The pasta tasted like it had been cooked much earlier, too many capers overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the salmon. Very litttle spinach was served to balance the dish.  The flat bread was small and too salty. The service was not very good. I did not enjoy this dish.
