This place is CRUNK! I'm not a local in SB, so I really just depend on my co-workers to take me to fun places when I'm in town. I honestly didn't even check out the crowd here, because I was way too busy dancing...

The drinks are good, the dance floor is small-but SO fun-and the back patio is a spacious haven of fresh air. This place doesn't look like anything special from the front, but it's actually very stylish with unique India-Asian/Mediteranean decor both inside and out. The back patio is an absolute gem!!!  It's a lovely place to lounge with friends while sipping cocktails, and then you can go inside and tear up the dance floor. The bartenders were super chill and the music was great... We most definitely had a fun time here!

We love going here on nights out in Santa Barbara, the dance floor is at the front with a huge window facing State Street.  The dance floor is full of fun people and a great dj, drinks are not too pricey, and always good times!

The music was deinitelly popping! It grabbed our attention as we walk around state street. So we walked in and had a blast. The DJ definitely knew the right Hip Hop music to play.

Too bad the dance floor is so small, other than that great place!

OMG! Thank you to the 10 people in all of Santa Barbara that like rap, hip hop and don't wanna listen to dance music all night!!

after a night of disappointing night clubs (see reviews for wildcat lounge, EOS, and one other a ican't remember right now) my boyfriend and i were driving down state street back to our hotel, we stopped at a red light and heard hip hop music!! WOW really?? so we parked and went inside. the dance floor is TINY!!! but all we need is a small space to bump and grind anyways. ;) all i have to say is THANK YOU for playing good hip hop and rap music to dance and sing to. sadly, we only got to enjoy an hour but it was enough to remedy my experience of night life in Santa Barbara.

One of the best places in downtown SB, kind of an insider though. If you are not completely mainstream, then this is the place to go.

A rather small place, still got a nice bar, super chill back/patio area and a separate dance floor which I have never seen anything but crowded and fun :)

Music could sometimes be better, but of course depends on the DJ and the day of the week. Check out their fb page to stay posted.

    Small place, friday spot

This place seemed to be dead on any other day, but friday. Small place with alot of sound, this spot is'nt all that. The shoebox shaped room fills up quick, and everytime i've been in here i feel claustrophobic and get hit on by a homosexual.

Over all its a place to chill and have a drink wifh some friends and maybe move on to somthing else,  atleast the bartenders seemed cool.

Got here at 11 with a group of friends. They played good music, we were dancing the night away.  Drinks are around $10. The place is small with cool interior. Indochine is a good place to start the night.

I guess this is good for SB. I was here visiting my friend and we wanted to go drinking. She brought me here because it's a good chill spot. Drinks were strong, not too expensive. We went on Friday night, it wasn't popping when we came but was popping later. The dance floor was really small, and there were white people dancing all whack, like ball room dancing on a small dance floor. Who does that?! They were bumping into everyone with their weird ball room dancing to hip-hop music. I just don't get it? I'm glad we don't have that kind of dancing in San Diego. People will probably beat them down for pushing and bumping into people. They woulda gotten drinks splashed on them in SD. Ball room dancing to hip-hop. C'mon!

Grimey but fun. Raunchy dancing in the window. Just like The Library in SLO

Not the hotspot it once was but still not a bad place. Service (attitude) could use improvement at the bar... Decent back patio with a lot of heaters. Small dance floor.

I love Indochine (in-doe-sheen lol). It's one of my fave clubs/bars in downtown SB :)

    Pros:
+ Great music if you're a fan of house and electro (or the DJ usually remixes popular Top 40's songs in them too)
+ Speaking of DJs, Kidd Spin usually plays here in either Friday or Saturday nights and he def makes the club jumpin' jumpin'
+ Outdoor patio is lovely and refreshing
+ Indoor and outdoor bars (drinks are everywhere!)

    Cons:
    - I LOVE to dance but they have a small dance floor and it gets kinda crowded
    - Tiny bathroom as in a one stall bathroom that you have to wait for :(

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and if you haven't checked it out, it's worth a try :)

The DJ is amazing on Sat nights. Drinks are fairly priced. Dance floor is small, but music makes up for it. If you're ever on State St. to party, make your way to this place to get your drink/dance on. Best part - no cover!

This place reminded me of a tiny, tiny version of Tao. It's got the whole "Asian-y" decor and what not going... huge back patio area, small dance floor. But nonetheless, this place had a good feel and great DJ. Drinks were stiff and not super over-priced.

Love this place! The decor is beautiful - especially the ladies restroom. The staff are always really very nice and the bartenders are great. I'm always pleasantly surprised with the drinks they serve up when I say surprise me. Prices are pretty decent and the drinks never disappoint. They play a wide variety of music ranging from oldies to hiphop to house/electronica/trance that's always fun. The thing I love most about this place is that there's something for everyone here. If you want to dance, just hop up onto the dance floor and boogy. If you want to sit and chat, head out to the back patio and stay warm by the heaters. Definitely my favorite place to go in Santa Barbara. Love it!

So excited. There were actually people gettin down at Indochine tonight!

Not to mention an amazing DJ...

This makes up for any negative remarks I've said in the past. I love it here! !!!!

This place is really small but the interior is pretty. It's cool on a late night when you can dance in the front window because the floor is covered in spilled booze and you don't want to fall on your butt.

They always have great music. The dance floor is TINY but the atmosphere is superb. the entire bar is pretty small but i think the music and environment makes up for the lack of space.

I don't really drink so i don't know how expensive drinks are...my guess is between $ 7-10 (just made the number up right now =P)
parking is across the street if you park behind somethings fishy and it's free if you leave after 2am

Indochine has a great ambiance and cozy dance floor.  The bartenders are friendly.  The back patio is cute and cozy with candles on the tables and outdoor heating.

I really like this place because it provides a great escape from other overcrowded night clubs full of pretentious types.

Indochine is a pretty cool place--I've been there three times and have enjoyed myself each time.  The atmosphere is funky in a kind of Eastern/eclectic kind of way.

However, Indochine has a couple of drawbacks that are worth mentioning.  First of all, the dance floor is really, really small.  Secondly, the last time I went there I ordered a $10 drink (some kind of special mojito--I'm pretty sure it was a Green Tea Mojito) and it was GROSS.  I should have told the bartender but was eager to squeeze my way back onto the dance floor to rejoin my friends.

Based on my experiences, I'd say Indochine is a good place to end up, but not the type of place to hang out at all night.

First place that we went to that didn't charge a ridiculous cover during fiesta ($30? for Tonic? Com'on) and didn't have a 30-40 minute wait to get in.  I came in with low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised and actually had a pretty good time.  Good decor, lovely backyard patio with nice lighting and comfortable seating.  And they have three olives root beer favored vodka...YUM!

We spent most of our night here. The inside is tiny, they have a dance floor but it's small and packed and good luck trying to actually dance on it. The dance floor hits right up against the front window, so it is sort of used as a display window for drunk girls to act stupid. The hidden treasure is the back patio, I wouldn't say it's big but it's a comfortable environment to lounge and sip on some drinks. I would say if your downtown it's worth the stop.

A place to eat and dance. They have a restaurant to eat earlier on and then it turns into a club later in the night. This is one of the more lounge-like bars in SB. Slightly more upscale.

This place looks very small from the outside but it is more narrower than anything. You walk in and theres a dance floor to your right, very small WINDOW DISPLAY! No joke, kind of makes it have a more sleezy vibe I think. The dance floor overall is very small.

They have two bars. The inside you can sit down, have a fews drinks and talk. However, the drinks are a bit pricer than the actual bar bars around. Such as Madisons, Sharkeez, Sandbar etc. b/c this is more of a lounge atomosphere. The outside is nice a cozy, heat lamps another small bar. You can't get any type of alc drink out here, so you'll have to go inside where the main bar is.

The bartenders have always been very nice, no complaints from me there. There is a mixed crowd, however, there are some hot guys that go here, a bit older I would say. In a good way though, not like 40 year olds, but some professional looking. LOL Again, it has a dark lounge vibe.

I would suggest to go here to give it a try if you're sick of the laid back, college frat vibe, want of a more "LA"-like scene and you want to pay for over-priced drinks.

I liked it better when it was called Buddha Bar.  And didn't suck.

The last stop of the night .. by then the girls and I were feeling pretty good and happy. I do agree with what Caroline said about the dance floor. It was pretty much like a display window with a bench that go around the window. The dance floor was really small and crowded. After awhile the girls and I got tired of being bump and pushed around so we ended up dancing on top of the bench. The back patio is a great place to cool down and lounge around. The drinks were okay and the music was better at Statement. Crowd was mixed and everyone was friendly.

"Meh" doesn't describe Indochine well, but I think "ugh" does.

This place looks and feels like a Zen paradise.  Someday I want to own a vacation house in Bali that looks like this bar.

So why, you ask, did I give this place 2 stars?

Very simply, this place is as pretentious as any, in an already pretentious city.  The uppity patrons will look down their noses at you while their overpriced martinis splash on their overpriced Prada shoes.  Some places are big enough that you can escape the egos...but not Indochine.  Never have I visited this place when there was room to do a pirouette (lay off me, sometimes I like a good spin!).

Everytime I hear the name of this bar I cringe, and I will avoid going at any cost (because avoiding it costs less than just about anything).

== Location:  Prime location on State Street.
== The Goods:  REALLY expensive drinks, small portions.
== Ambiance:  Super upscale Zen decor, which is awesome if you can subtract the people and prices.
== Overall:  I avoid this place.  On the occasion that I'm dragged there, I never have a good time.  1 star is for the interior decor only.

I don't know if it was the particular night I went on, however this felt like the ultimate hick club on a Friday night.  Nothing but country and rock.  Super small dance floor and back patio - don't let the name fool you into thinking it's a unique club - stick with Q's or Wildcats if you're looking for a dance club.

This place will never amount to an LA club which they seem to strive to be.  Weak sauce.

My last review of SB...from this last trip anyway...

Also...the last stop of our State Street Bar Hopping GNO...

I just remember it was really red and the dance floor was right at the front window. Just imagine a small clothing store space with a display window. You're dancing at the display window. Oh and I also remember doing a shot of tequila...it wasn't Patron. Yup.

While it's small, Indochine holds a special place in my large SB heart.

Smells wonderfully of nag champa at all time. Stiff drinks (mojitos rock!) and usually good dance music. The decor is out of this world and the bathroom is a special haven.

The bartenders can be a bit slow to respond sometimes, so they loose a star.

It's a pretty small place, including the "dance floor"... if you can call it that.  I like the area in the back with the booths.. I remember it still being loud but you could at least converse a little.  I also remember the women's restroom being really nice.

The drinks are pretty stiff.  The few times I've been here, I've gotten a glass of whiskey with a splash of coke.  SWEET!

Drunken slurring Archie trying to get "sold" into going into Indochine...

Archie: Hey Mr. Bouncer *hiccup*, what's going on in here?
Bouncer: Nothing, just a normal weekend night.
Archie: Is that *hiccup* right?  You got Maaahhdarran Wodka?
    Bouncer: Of course.
Archie: You got kar *hiccup* karaoke?
    Bouncer: Tonight?  Yes.
Archie: They got any Bon Jovi?
    Bouncer: I believe...
    Archie: That *hiccup* That'll do.

This place is kind of lame but it's got a soft spot in my heart as I used to bounce here when it was a different place.

Yes, you heard it correctly, Archie R is more than a pretty face, he can, at least in theory, protect the drunken patrons of a bar.

$10/hr used to be so much money.  What the hell happened?

    Flashlight.

I have probably brought about 6 different bachelorette parties and celebrated my birthday here and have always had a great time. Check out the bottle service on the back patio. The DJ doesn't dissapoint either! Fun dancing on the front room dance floor...the one downside is there is only one ladies' restroom.

No offense to those who enjoy going to Indo...but when I was there, it was crowded, it gave me the wannabe LA club vibe, and the only people who were there were older folk, especially dudes wearing sweaters draped over their shoulders, like East Coast country club style.

Cool bar and decor all pieces from the Far East as the name implies.  Always rather beautiful people here, but it can give off the air of a more upscale and older crowd. A usual stop for a quick drink. My only problem is that it can feel crowded. The front bar occupies a large portion of the front room almost pushing you against the opposite wall. Not to mention the tiny hall to get from the front to the back  can turn into line as people wait to get out back where there are booths and it's cooler. The bathrooms are also located in this same hallway. Good stop but I don't find myself staying here all night to often.

I remember the days when this spot used to be called The Madhouse and it was my favorite bar on State Street when I was in college. This place has gotten a little more hipster since then (which can be both bad and good) and the decor has improved enormously. They have one of the nicest bathrooms I've ever been in. Just gorgeous. Stellar service and loved the vodka on special. They helped to make my bachelorette that much more memorable.
