Wrapped up a week-worth of continuing education in a remote outpost of Bergen County (i'm looking at u Mahwah) with a party here. Â This place is right on the NY/NJ border. Â Usual irish pub grub and drinks. Â Endless pints of Guiness, Smithwicks, Brooklyn, Bass, and SamAdams summer ale. Â Although I found it odd that the Guiness, Brooklyn and Bass taps kicked around the same time, about 8 pm. Â Had to wait 20 minutes for new kegs. Â Resorted to drinking CoorsLite bottle in the interim. Â No harm, no foul.
The food was average. Â Multiple flat-screen tvs throughout the air-conditioned room. Â The parking lot was huge. Â So that was nice.
Not bad if you are in the area. Â I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. Â There are just as good, if not better, Irish bars in or near Hackensack.
In the past Irelands always felt like the type of place where the staff made you feel like part of the family and being a regular was a good and exciting thing as opposed to a depressing fact of life.
While most of the staff that I know, save 1 bartender, has moved on and I regret to say the new staff doesn't seem like the type to get into this type of atmosphere I can at least say that it still holds true as a nice little hangout for decently priced beer and, if you head in on a Wednesday night great wings for cheap.
I may not be able to justify going 2-3 nights a week anymore like I did right after hitting 21 I can still say that heading over to Irelands for a game of darts and a pitcher is still a pretty relaxing way to spend the night after a rough day.
The dictionary defines gastronomy as: of or relating to food and cookery, esp the art of good eating.
Irelands 32 in Suffern NY is Pub Gastronomy. Your typical Irish Bar/Pub. Large bar with your juke box, and all the beers you would want as well as liquor. As for the food, definitely Gastro Pub food. We've been there a few times so here is what you should definitely get: The wings, check! The Burgers, check! French onion soup, check! The Beer, check! The pasta dish...not!! If you are looking for decent food at a decent price but not in the mood for Sutters, etc. Go to Irelands and have a shot on me!
