Wrapped up a week-worth of continuing education in a remote outpost of Bergen County (i'm looking at u Mahwah) with a party here. Â This place is right on the NY/NJ border. Â Usual irish pub grub and drinks. Â Endless pints of Guiness, Smithwicks, Brooklyn, Bass, and SamAdams summer ale. Â Although I found it odd that the Guiness, Brooklyn and Bass taps kicked around the same time, about 8 pm. Â Had to wait 20 minutes for new kegs. Â Resorted to drinking CoorsLite bottle in the interim. Â No harm, no foul.
The food was average. Â Multiple flat-screen tvs throughout the air-conditioned room. Â The parking lot was huge. Â So that was nice.
Not bad if you are in the area. Â I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. Â There are just as good, if not better, Irish bars in or near Hackensack.
In the past Irelands always felt like the type of place where the staff made you feel like part of the family and being a regular was a good and exciting thing as opposed to a depressing fact of life.
While most of the staff that I know, save 1 bartender, has moved on and I regret to say the new staff doesn't seem like the type to get into this type of atmosphere I can at least say that it still holds true as a nice little hangout for decently priced beer and, if you head in on a Wednesday night great wings for cheap.
I may not be able to justify going 2-3 nights a week anymore like I did right after hitting 21 I can still say that heading over to Irelands for a game of darts and a pitcher is still a pretty relaxing way to spend the night after a rough day.
The dictionary defines gastronomy as: of or relating to food and cookery, esp the art of good eating.
Irelands 32 in Suffern NY is Pub Gastronomy. Your typical Irish Bar/Pub. Large bar with your juke box, and all the beers you would want as well as liquor. As for the food, definitely Gastro Pub food. We've been there a few times so here is what you should definitely get: The wings, check! The Burgers, check! French onion soup, check! The Beer, check! The pasta dish...not!! If you are looking for decent food at a decent price but not in the mood for Sutters, etc. Go to Irelands and have a shot on me!
Great beer selection & Guinness runs perfect. An eclectic crowd with some old-timers and some of the younger crowd, on par with the limited and dwindling bar scene in Suffern. The food is good pub food, some great wings and a variety of good sandwiches. For some reason, never became one of my regular stops not sure exactly why.
Review Source:I have to say I love this bar primarily because it reminds me of my college days. Â Relaxed atmosphere, dart board, lottery games, cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, choose your own music. Â The only thing holding me back from giving this bar 5 stars is that I can't drunkenly stumble home from it.
PS Random, but relevant and true, it is always a total dudefest in here.
One of the few places out there that had a halfway to Paddy's Day party in September, complete with pipes and drums. If you want great Guinness and a laid back atmosphere, this is the place to go! The bartenders are friendly. The music is always at a low volume so you can hold on conversations with your friends. Every Tuesday night, they have $3 pints. You have your choice of sitting at the bar, in high tables, or low tables. You can play darts and put in your lotto numbers too. My only complaint is that the men's bathroom could use an upgrade, and the ATM machine is often out of order.
Review Source:So after battling a horrible and I mean horrible rain storm I landed at Irelands for some dinner with my cousin. It was only 5 in the afternoon so it was pretty dead (I figured it would be packed for happy hour). Anyway after taking about 30 minutes to order (we were chatting the whole time) we opted to have chicken wings, caesar salad and french onion soup. Yes I know, such a healthy dinner.
The chicken wings were amazing. Very spicy and crispy. The caesar salad was really good. Nice, creamy dressing. The only thing that I thought was pretty strange about the salad was that it had carrots and red cabbage in it. Isn't caesar salad just iceberg and romaine? Guess they wanted to give it a new twist. The french onion soup was my least favorite thing. I can't really put my finger on why - I think I am just spoiled with the french onion soup from Halligans (my favorite).
After meeting the newest addition to the family (yes, it was babytime weekend!), lunch and beer were in order. Since the gathered family was about 85% Irish, an Irish pub was deemed a fitting choice.
Irelands 32 got the job done. Their pour of Guiness was deemed "pretty good" by an Irishman. Of two orders of fish and chips, one seemed undercooked. The County Down sandwich was tasty (2 fried eggs, Irish sausages, and bacon). And the Kilkenny sandwich got good marks.
Clean atmosphere. Okay service. Also, Their Sam Adams summer Ale tap was pouring out Killians. Not a huge deal for our crowd, but worth mentioning all the same.
I cannot tell you how many times I had passed this place in my years growing up in Rockland. And there had always been cars in the lot. Â So back visiting my mother in Pomona, driving towards 202 from 17, feeling hungry, we decided to stop in. Â I had always feared it was going to be a sketchy place, a la Muggs Pub. Â I was surprised when I went inside, thankfully. Â A very family oriented Irish pub with pictures of Ireland on the walls, the full gamut of Irish beers, and classic Irish food. Â All of the food we had (sandwiches, shepherd's pie, soups) was as good as you'll find in any pub. Â And they have Big Buck Hunter and Golden Tee. Â Awesome.
