Ivy Rooftop

I used to LOVE Ivy Rooftop but for some reason it has lost it's flair. It's a pretty spacious venue with outdoor and indoor areas and the "rooftop" view is beautiful and a great atmosphere for a night out. They used to have Crizzly and Vegas Banger for dubstep Wednesdays - however the DJs they have now play a lot of 90's hip hop and rap- which is okay, but not what I want to hear the whole night. Last summer/fall there would be a line WRAPPED around the top story just to get in - now you can go right in, and it's just not the same as it was before. The crowd has changed too - at least on Saturday when I went - there was a lot of "seedy" looking characters which is not a crowd I like to be around. Hoping to give it another chance sometime.

Everyone has different objectives for going to a club. I'm not going to pick up guys or interact with strangers. In SA, douchey guys and trashy girls is a theme you can generalize to 95% of the clubs and not just Ivy, so I don't use that criteria when I evaluate clubs. I go with a group of friends and we're just looking for a good time with each other.

First off, I like the location. I live in the med center, so going downtown or to Stone Oak, where most of the good nightlife is, is a pain in the ass. Ivy is near La Cantera and is the place to go if you want a closer locale for the Stone Oak experience. Secondly, I never have a problem with parking, and it's free unless you do valet. You may have to park along the curb or in this grassy area when it's busy, but there's always parking. Third, no cover and you hardly ever have to wait in line to get in. Fourth, good dancing music (hip  hop and dub step). Fifth, a decent rooftop so you can migrate throughout the night for a different environment. I went there for a bday once where the host reserved a lounging spot with bottle service, so that was nice to have our own little outdoor territory. The drinks are on par in quality and price when compared to other clubs. The size of the crowd is about right. On weekends there are alot of people, but never to the point of unpleasant, jam-packed crowdedness. Finally, if you try it and don't like it, hop on over to Area 31 a few doors down (which I don't like as much but at least you don't have to drive elsewhere).

What it comes down to is, if you want a fun night of dancing and drinking with your best buds, Ivy is a good choice. It's the only club in SA that I've actually returned to on a regular basis.
