The hubs and I ate here for the first time last night. Hes been there before for drinks only. We ended up getting two apps; summer rolls and wings. The summer rolls were cut in half--too bad its rice paper and why the heck would you do that? It made it impossible to eat. It wasn't filled with much of anything and for being 7.75, way overpriced. The wings were about 1.00 each and they were OK. I really liked the crispy texture, but the sauces were definitely lacking.

Overall: This place is fine for if you're stuck at the mall and want some decent food--just not awesome food. The service was fine (I was actually seated so I can see into the kitchen, that was kind of cool because I do like seeing how restaurants operate), the decor is very pretty.

If there is any wait at all--I would not go here.

I was with my husband at the mall in buffalo. And we decided to try this place for the first time. Our server came over and asked us if it was our first time there. We told her yes. So she wrote her name on the table. Her name was Alex !! Thank god she wrote her name down for me to remember it when writing this review.

First of all, she was very cold. But that's fine I'm not here to judge her attitude or anything. Judging the food and service. My husband asked for olive oil as dressing for the house salad she got all confused ! So my husband gave up and asked for a salad without any dressing.

I ordered the tortilla burger without tomato. The burger comes with tomato. In the tortilla burger description the first ingredient was guacamole. So I asked Alex our waitress where was the guacamole. She was like this doesn't come with guacamole but you can add it !! I was 100% sure that its not an add on because for other burgers they would write add xx price xx. After I told her yes. I googled their menu online to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating. It was my first time there and I remembered the menu better than her.

As I was waiting for her to bring me the guacamole I saw her wandering around fixing stuff on the side. Hello I'm still waiting !!
Anyways with or without guacamole the burger was still inedible. My husband had literally 2 bites of his burger and couldn't eat it anymore.

And then comes the check. My husband always gives 20% tip no matter where we go. He just doubles the first number of the total. I was so annoyed with her that I told him to give her close to nothing as tip. He gave me the receipt to write whatever I wanted and realized that she charged us $2.95 for the guacamole. I was so pissed at this point. Not because I care about the $3 but because all combined her attitude from the beginning to the mediocre food to the fact that I have asked for no tomato and because I knew I was right about the guacamole.

I believe the total was like $49. I told my husband I'm giving her $4 tip. 1 dollar will go to the bus boy she will end up with $3 (coming to think about it alex paid for my guacamole lol :)). I was so happy with myself for giving her $4. And my husband circled the guacamole on the check and wrote her a note saying"check your menu".

This is our first time there, Alex knew that, and our last time, Alex should know that. Alex's attitude and confusion was a deal breaker !!

Sometimes the experience alone makes or breaks a review. That being said, I would like to tell you about mine. But first, the wings here are probably one of the best in Buffalo and the food is always great. The service here is really exceptional and very upbeat and always has been.

I went shopping on Xmas Eve and bought a few things. One of them was a bottle of Chloe Intense from Lord & Taylor ($106).  I mistakenly left it in the bathroom for about 10 minutes. When I finally realized what I had done I went back in the bathroom only to find an empty bag. Nobody turned it into the store or lost and found of course. You would think that they would being Xmas and all. The perfume was also gift wrapped so they didn't even know what they took. Needless to say I was extremely upset.

Suddenly, two waitress approached me, one named Lauren and the other Kelly. They felt so bad for me that they had put together a collection of tips from everyone working to give to me to put towards repurchasing my gift.

I was so shocked that I could have broken them when I hugged them. I went from a super low to almost being in tears and I had to hug them again then leave. I know that experience will not be the same for everyone but again, their food is always great and the service has always been exceptional. And, the wings and chorizo poutine are off the hook. Don't forget about the blue moon in tall frosty glasses.

Food was fine though portions of main meals are small.  Service was fantastic.  Not impressed however, that as a family we were seated with a child in the bar area.  It was extremely loud and the crowd kinda rowdy.  They sat 4 single guys in the dining area but a family in the bar.....odd to say the least.

I thought I should update my review since I must have been here at least 15 more times since I wrote it last January!

We've still only sat in the bar area of the restaurant - hubby enjoys watching sports on the 12+ TVs (especially the gigantic one behind the bar), you get to enjoy specials that don't apply to the restaurant portion, and it must be a promotion to work this area because we haven't had a bad experience in months (quite the opposite, we are always super happy with the service!).  There was once that my sandwich came with onions when I had asked for it without- and despite my insistence that it was fine, the manager came right over and then took it off the bill!!

As for the food - we love it. Hubby almost always orders the jalapeno chicken fajitas (he claims they're some of the best he's ever had) and I bounce around between a few of the salads, chicken sandwiches, and the occasional entree with no complaints. I would suggest avoiding their forays into international cuisine, though - if you've had pad thai at a Thai place, you're not going to like the Jack Astor's version (but come on, you could have figured that out!).
The wings have some weird batter-like substance on them and aren't my favorite, but for $5 during NFL games you can get a pound of them, or a whole pizza! They have a lot of other specials that change pretty often, especially during non-peak hours like 4-7 and 10-close.

Although I would still suggest that you always ask about the special before ordering it - management has either changed or improved and we haven't had trouble with inconsistency lately - plus if I tell our server that's what I'm going for, they always make sure it rings up right. The re-model of the bar area is also great (although I do miss the windows between the 2 spaces) which included new TVs for sharper, brighter pictures.

The actual restaurant portion of the place is more accommodating for kids and attracts more of the mall shoppers as opposed to people just visiting the restaurant. They cover the tables in brown paper and leave cups of crayons around for you - i mean the kids - to draw all over it with. It's the same menu (including a kids menu on the back) and they have free dumdums on your way out :-)

Waiter was awful, didn't know the menu very well or have any recommendations. Caesar salad and milkshake were just ok. Would not go back.

It's a decent brew pub grill restaurant attached to the Walden Galleria.  I took our team here for lunch and had burgers.  The burgers were fine but the restaurant didnt have very much else that leaped out at me as far as experience or atmosphere.  It's on par with any TGIF or Applebee's I've ever been to.  This may change if I return but it definitely wasn't memorable.

Checked this place out again after a Sunday morning golf tournament with a mixed bag of a dozen friends -

Fantastic Bartender ! - place was fairly busy early evening - and this guy was running!  He had a full bar covered as well as a service bar and a mental midget manager unsuccessfully trying to impede him.

We grabbed some quesadillas and garlic bread, and boozed it up a bit - - tab came to around $130 which is very reasonable for the level of service.

I'm usually not a fan of chain-type restaurants either, especially those located in a mall.

    But.

1.) There are only 2 Jack Astor's in the US, one being in Buffalo. Imagine that! (and about 20 in Ontario, 30 in all of Canada)

2.) Jack's wins hands down for a good meet-up place in the 'burbs that is nicer than a local pub, yet not uppity and overpriced.

If my memory serves me correct, I think Jack's used to have buckets of peanuts on the bar, and plenty of shells on the floor. They have cleaned up their act since then, and have done a bit of remodeling. I like the new, improved look. Very family friendly atmosphere in the restaurant area, which overlooks the mall. Not a huge fan of mall walkers observing me while I bite into my cheesy garlic pan bread, but not overly concerned about their opinions either. And the bread is worth the stares. So good.

Recently I met up with friends for a mini-reunion at the bar on a Tuesday night. This was the perfect venue for our crowd of 15 or so people, as the bar was not overly crowded, and we had plenty of room to be social butterflies. There was also a bit of nostalgia tied in, as we all used to roll up to Jack's about 13 years ago when we worked at one of the mall stores. Many of us couldn't drink back then, but we'd hang out with the "older" (ie, mid 20's!) managers who would throw back a few beers, and share some apps. Always good times....

This time around, the waitresses were more than attentive, drinks were promptly delivered, and the multiple tabs were well organized.

Despite the new restaurants that have recently rolled into the mall, Jacks still seems to be one of the busiest establishments. That's a good sign they'll be around for our next mini-reunion!

Great bartenders, great food (try the garlic pan bread and the beer-something soup), and tons of tv screens for all your game watching needs.

if you want fine dining,, probably not your location but if you want a place that is central to most to meet up for dinner and a drink, this is a good option.

I had this really wierd habit when I was kid.  I liked to eat paper.  I especially liked to eat sugar packets in restaurants, paper and all.  I think it was because my mom was super-crunchy and I wasn't allowed to eat refined sugar.  I was the wierdo kid with sprout and hummus pitas when all the other kids had bologna on white bread.  Fortunately, I've grown out of the paper-eating habit.

So, when I was served reconstituted cardboard on a bun with mealy tomatoes and brown lettuce, memories of my deprived childhood came flooding back and I anxiously started gnawing on my sandwich.  But I had to stop.  I don't eat cardboard anymore.  Especially when there is no sugar involved.  After a couple of bites, the cardboard landed in my stomach and started to swell.  Not a good sign.

It was the "turkey" burger.  A frozen cardboard patty.
