Decided to wander out to Greencastle - first mistake. The college is beautiful, the rest is lame country town (completely lacking anything quaint and charming).
So anyway, the mission of our journey was to try some local food joint. Â We settled on Jackson's. It screamed local family awesomeness, and I was jazzed to see the Towncars and elderly slowly doing their zombie walk into this place. Old people means a place is generally consistent, inexpensive, and has some decent food.
First bad sign, we went into a back entrance and upon entering there were the  restrooms, but the sink is open and in the hallway. So we have to walk by patrons washing their hands post-bathroom use - weird!  We sat down and were promptly waited on. Service was good the entire time so I gave a star for that. The place is old and has that local charm so point for that. That's where the points end.
Rule number one of my dining out rules: NEVER DO BUFFETS! The menu was one page, front side only and the prices were cheap but everything seemed ala cart versus full meals. They had a breakfast buffet, and given the lackluster breakfast menu, I felt that the only option was the buffet. Ugh, my rule was broken.
The buffet was TERRIBLE! Let us count the number of pancakes: 3. There were only 3, bisquick silver dollar cakes even in there, some dried out French toast sticks, eggs, and questionable meats. I ate because I was hungry but it sucked.
My husband ordered water to drink, the color was questionable due to a very old and/or dirty glass. Ick!
I have a feeling this place may not be as bad for lunch or dinner. I don't know. The other side of this place was a drive up lunch place. Odd. Â
Take home message: not a good place to eat and Greencastle is quite lame.
