A bit over price for what they offer, but it's a rare seafood restaurant in a small town. Ordered the mussels and shellfish pasta special they had. Very tart and salty. Expected dishes to be more flavorful based on the description. Pepper flakes were really old and dry. Simple restaurant, served butter in paper cup.. nothing like the providence oyster bar (obviously) but nothing like a traditional oyster bar either. More like a ma and pops place.
Review Source:Pretty awful meal there today and had to wait 45 minutes for it. Fried oyster roll was good, NE clam chowder was awful...yuk...disgusting! Tasted like chalk soup...no clams and only a few potatoes. Caesar salad was unattractive and  drowning in bottled dressing and had no cheese of any kind on it... coleslaw was an afterthought, lacking any imagination. Two thumbs down. Pick somewhere....anywhere else.
Review Source:Been in twice and sat at the bar both times. Service was prompt but not exactly welcoming. The first time I had a chicken caesar salad and it was just kind of sad...overdressed, lettuce was limp, chicken was dry. Meh. Most recently I had some oysters and they were good, but a few of them were just SO HUGE to the point that they were unappealing. They're better when they're smaller and more tender. My brother's fried cod was super bland...they totally didn't season the fish before they battered it. So...nothing special going on here but it's been open as long as I can remember so I guess it fits some niche.
Review Source:This was one of our more disapointing visits to this restaurant. Â Years ago it was clean, well run and had an interesting menu. Â Now, not so much.
A 2 oz pour of stale wine was $11, their escargo was awful and served on soggy toast and their crab cakes tasted like week old fish. Â
Skip this place, time for new "everything".
We walk in and ask the bartender if we could look at the menu. He looked at me as if I had 3 heads. Â My family of 5 decides to eat there. The whole time we were there our waittress looked like she would rather be anywhere else but there. Â Chowder was yummy but meal took long time. They did discount our meal to compensate. Shrimp/ scallops was tasty. Kids salmon overcooked and small. French fries soggy. Â Tuna steak was good. Not great atmosphere because all wait staff looked like they were having a bad day. I would recommend Jamestown tavern over this place.
Review Source:Cons 1. oysters were expensive. $13.50 for a half dozen is too expensive at a place that calls itself an oyster bar. Â 2. Whatever they started cooking after I arrived made the place smell super greasy.
Pros- 1. The oysters were great 2. The soft shell crab were 5 stars easily. They were some of the best soft shells I've had. 3. The side dishes were interesting. One of the sides was sautéed cabbage and carrots with anise seeds. It was very interesting. The other side was mashed potatoes. They were not interesting but they were good, not sure what was in them. Plus they were like a course mash, which was different 3. The pecan pie was pretty good as well.
1/2 dozen oysters, shift shell crab dinner and pecan pie was $47. I'd defiantly go back and get the crabs again.
If you look at my reviews, I have very few 1 stars. Â I am sorry but this was a huge disappointment. Â Mark had been to the Oyster Bar before years ago and said it was okay. Â Well that has changed. Â We ordered the lobster cakes which had no lobster in them but tons of grease. Â I ordered the flounder sandwich which was obviously made with frozen fish. Â Mark ordered the lobster roll and again it was missing the lobster. Â It had no flavor at all. Â
If I was going to say anything nice about the place I would say our server was nice. Â She was a sweet girl. Â It isnt her fault the food was terrible.
