Jim N Nicks is more than just your average chain barbeque joint. Their food always tastes fresh and there is a definite commitment to quality of ingredients that, I feel, is apparent throughout their offerings.

The following are some of my favorite, if not a little random, "staples". First off are their cheese biscuits; which are more like little morsels of savory sweet cheesy muffiny goodness. They're baked perfectly. Soft on the bottom and slightly crisp on top. Just pace yourself.

Next, oddly enough, would be their queso and nachos. These, along with their Tuesday Tacos, are some of the dishes that inspired the incarnation of The Little Donkey in Homewood. The chips they serve with the queso and nachos may at first seem a little thick however they won't get soggy when you reach the bottom of the huge pile of nachos, a definite plus. And make sure to get some of their jalapenos. They're sliced fresh and add a nice kick.

Another item would the Chopped Southern Salad. Comes tossed in a savory vinaigrette but I always like to get a little ranch and bbq sauce on the side. I really think the thing I like most about it is the addition of sweet little pieces of corn. I never feel there are enough. Maybe I should ask for me. Get it with pork or chicken, you won't be disappointed.

And lastly would their awesome pecan pie. Growing up with relatives from South Georgia, the veritable pecan capital of the world, I've had my share of stellar pecan pies. This one is as good as any I've ever had. (Sorry mom and grandmother) The pecans are crushed up in small pieces and the filling is that perfect soft consistency, not runny and not too firm. Just right.

Give Jim N Nicks a chance on your BBQ tour of B'ham. Sure there are some awesome BBQ joints in the 'Ham but Jim N Nicks keeps up IMO and is worth that try.

The restaurant is located in typical suburban hell in a wal mart parking lot. The food is dry and tasteless, despite their high food costs. The service leaves you feeling abused and hated. If you go you will not need any money for tipping as you will not want to tip someone after such service.

I have always been a HUGE fan of the cheese biscuits. Just can't get enough. But I was never overwhelmed by the BBQ until I asked the waitress how fatty brisket was as I had never tried it. The nice waitress suggested that I try it and ask for a leaner piece. It was wonderful. Definitely found my favorite dish there! But the cheese biscuits are still the main attraction! It is worth ordering a pan of those just for family gatherings.

    Favorite Meal:
Brisket, baked beans, and CHEESE BISCUITS

The reason it's my Top 100 Dishes to Try and Little Things:
Cheese Biscuits! Yeah I know that's not a dish but I sure could make a meal out of 'em and still enjoy them as an appetizer. See how I made that work?

    List:
The BEST brisket  I've ever had.

The food is good, flavorful barbecue, and the pulled pork sandwich with a side of fries makes for a hearty lunch.

There's a patio as you approach the front door where you can enjoy the fresh air when it's nice. Plenty of seating inside with tables and booths, and there are a couple TVs set up.
