Beware this place. Â While the wait staff and bartenders are friendly and on top of things--and they do have karaoke--the food is horrible. Â
As an example, the last time I ever went, I ordered hot wings. Â But the wings weren't even the least bit hot, not only in terms of spice but also in terms of temperature. Â In fact, my wings were not even cooked all the way: they were cold and pink in the middle! Â And while I like my beef more on the medium-rare side, biting into undercooked chicken is definitely a little scary. Â I was so turned off by this experience that I haven't eaten chicken wings, nor been back to Jimmy Mac's, since.
Also, be warned that the bar is super-smokey. Â I am slightly allergic to smoke but ended up having a severe allergy attack, complete with hives and shortness of breath, just by sitting at my table for five minutes on one specific occasion there. Â I think the problem is low ceilings and poor ventilation.
But if you're a smoker and don't plan on eating, give their karaoke a try when KJ Patrick is there. Â He has a great selection of songs and an excellent sound setup. Â
Just stay away from the wings at all costs!
Karaoke four nights a week, some of the best drink prices in town, close to home, Jimmy Mac's is not a bad spot.
I've never tried the food. Â Frankly, I'm almost afraid of 25cent chicken wings. Â Maybe one day I will brave the food, but the drink prices alone are worth checking this place out for.
The Crazy Karaoke is run well, not too crowded, and goes on late into the Wednesday evening. Â Unfortunately, Â the smoke level can get a little high compared to some other places. Â This isn't too bad during a weekday, but my date and I were literally driven out by the chain smoke of a Saturday night.
Hooray for Jimmy Mac's!
On first glance there's nothing special as you walk in, other than the amount of space that's available. It looks like an average sports bar, mainly for locals & regulars. But that's a breath of fresh air compared to other chain sports bars in the area, if you ask me. There's a pretty big bar & pool tables, and TV's scattered around---and yes, it's a little dark inside.
But if you hang around for a pint, what you'll notice about Jimmy Mac's is that the service is really friendly & quick, and they have *killer* bar food. I've eaten there a few times now, and everything I've had has been really tasty. The beer is plenty cold, and there's room to stretch out and cheer for whatever game/event/made-for-tv-movie is on the big screen.
Anyway, Jimmy Mac's is a real gem on football Sundays (or Saturdays, for the collegiate), but is also fun just as a regular hangout. The perfect escape from 5 o'clock traffic or weekend yard work. ;)
I first saw this place because I was looking for a BBQ joint on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a>. Â I decided to try it out on a whim, and I was impressed by the place.
The decor of the establishment leaves a bit to be desired. Â It's dark inside, so much so that it took me a while to adjust after I walked out. Â Other than that it looks like a standard restaurant/bar type place. Â No real concerns with it.
The food was excellent. Â There were several times I couldn't eat a rib on the first try due to the meat falling off the bone before it got to my mouth. Â It's not the absolute best BBQ I've ever had, but I was very impressed. Â The sauce is more vinegary than sweet, which is fine by me, although I do know people who aren't fans. Â
The service was exceptional. Â The waitress was very nice and had some good recommendations - the spinach dip was excellent. Â We did go at a fairly slow time, but the waitress was quick to strike up a conversation and be very personable as a whole.
It seemed like a pretty good place to go watch a football game. Â There were several TVs set up all around and they all looked good. Â The waitress did tell me that they didn't have the College Gameplan package, or the NFL package that lets them get all of the games. Â That shouldn't affect college much, as all the good games are televised anyways. Â I suppose if you're not much of a Falcons fan, the NFL coverage will be hit or miss.
This is exactly the kind of establishment that you don't mind supporting. Â The food is good, there's a bit of atmosphere to it, and while I went for lunch and not late night, it looked like a place that would be fun to go have some drinks with friends.
P.S. I can't say for all the waitresses, but the one we had did not exclude alcohol from our <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> gift certificate, which is somewhat rare. Â Worth taking advantage of!
Great place to take a bunch of friends if you want to embarrass yourself singing karaoke. Â The smoke is a bit thick, and the regulars didn't seem to appreciate us youngsters coming in and mocking their precious karaoke with DJ Jason. Â But I would definitely go back and act foolish again.
P.S. - I decided to stay away from the liquor drinks when I got one that was pretty watered down. Â The beer prices are very reasonable though.
