Came here after wine tasting all day in sonoma county the day after thanksgiving. It was packed at about 6pm.
The bartenders are super nice and make the drinks well and not too bad priced either. This bar is definitely not  an upscale but not so much as a dive either. They have shuffle board, pool table and the bar is a pretty good size.  We were there for only a bit but it was a nice experience. Since we have a cabin up there I will definitely be coming back. If you're in healdsburg, check it out!
First place I went @ 12:01am on my 21St B-day. Bartender took a b-day shot and a car bomb with me, he was cool, the hot dogs are bomb. Fun place, a little far from Windsor for me to catch a cab tho. I'll have to stick to Pattersons for now! Good place to grab a beer or 2 and watch the game.
Review Source:Hello fellow yelpers. Â I think I can say, confidently, that I can get along with almost anyone (a simple intro, I think) to my experience in having gone to John & Zeke's a week ago while visiting the area and having my oldest son be able to see some of the local colleges. Mind you, my son did not go with me to John & Zekes.....I let him hook up with buddies in the area and I ventured off for a few beers after dinner on two nights.
Fortunately, this bar was walking distance for me from our hotel. Thank God, I did not have to drive.
I am a beer guy, at heart.....John's didn't disappoint me. And Chris, the bartender and I got along great.....as did the two younger guys seated near by (one, a construction worker/carpenter, the other a student at Santa Rosa JC.)
The DB level was fine, nothing overwhelming. The crowd, basically, was younger, some couples, but mostly single guys out for a late night infusion.
I had a good time, hopefully you will too.
Once again went to John and Zekes and it was a blast.
Was with some friends from out of town and we all had a good time and as usual place was busy. Tall bartender was not as nice as Tony, but Chris is still the best. Took his time to help us with picking wineries for wine tasting as well as a place to eat.. will keep coming and bring my friends. And the shuffleboard they have is great fun.
It can be sometimes loud, but the music is always good.
Good for a stiff drink.. the bartenders are friendly but you really have to not be afraid to speak up and squeeze in, because they they will act like they don't see you and you'll be waiting forever if you don't..
They have pool tables and shuffle board. It gets really crowded during harvest time because that is where all the interns go to party. Total dive bar but a chill spot to hang out. The hot dogs are good too if you're hungry and a little tipsy.
from the door guy to the bartenders this is the best place to go in healdsburg!!! the door guy is the sweetest and the bartenders give quick service. when i was there it was peter and david they were the best the bar was packed but they were very good at what they did. it was a lot of locals but was great i think the staff made it so great.
Review Source:Great bar if you're visiting the area. They have shuffle board, a pool table and darts. The drinks are pretty cheap and it's right on the square. Â They also accept credit cards.
The crowd seemed to be all tourists or college kids but that doesn't mean I didn't have a great time.
If you're staying in Healdsburg or grabbing dinner on the plaza this is a great place to continue your buzz.
My favorite neighborhood bar (AKA dive bar) around. Â You got shuffle board, pool, darts and the best bartender ever - TONY is the bomb! Â Great strong drinks and Tony remembers exactly what you ordered. Â I love this place but watch out for the cops that follow drivers on your way home. Â They suck!
Review Source:This place lost a star for me last weekend.
I was in after another party that I had hosted with a group of people - we took over about half the bar, and the place was packed.
The popcorn was burnt (boo - but not the reason for lack of star)
the service was god aweful. Â It took forever to get a drink.
also, maybe it was my lack of being extremely drunk, but the accoustics in this place suck. Â way too loud, especially with all the drunks trying to yell over the juke box.
I used to think that if it was too loud - you were too old, but this place might have proved that theory wrong.
Let's talk Tony. Â Friendliest, no BS bartender who doesn't mess with the drinks, and will take care of you if you take care of him. Â If you lose something, he'll save it for you, and remember to give it back next time he sees you... as long as he likes you.
As a Healdsburg native, I've been here in all situations from a dead weekday to a bachelor party and wedding afterparties. The atmosphere has changed as Healdsburg has changed. It used to be a blue collar bar, but as the wineries grew and attracted tourists and more yuppier and wealthier residents, John and Zekes did nothing to change themselves, and I think that is why it is a popular hang out. When the town is busy, JZ is busy. Â
I would give it 3 1/2 stars. I'm not a constant fan, and usually I'd rather not run into 1/2 my HS classmates, but once in a while I can think of nothing better.
This place is great if you're young, from out of town and you need a full service bar on the weekends. Â I also agree with a few reviews below that John & Zeke's is "the" place for college kids who are now 21+, back from college, and are able to drink - this can lead to a high school reunion-like atmosphere.
If you do not fall into these categories, however, this is not the place for you. Â If you're a local, you will probably be at the B & B. Â Or if you're a true local, you're probably sitting at the AVB.
My experiences in here have been rather unpleasant each time I have been in. Â I've gone in during week nights where it's been totally empty and struggled to get the bar tender to wait on our group. Â It's not a big place and it's not like they can't see you coming in. Â One time, after waiting for awhile (more than 10 minutes) for the bar tender to finish waiting on two top heavy middle-aged women, and then realizing that he was busy "talking" with them, we finally decided to leave. Â As we get to the door, the bar tender yells, "What's wrong with you? Â Why are you leaving?" Â We said, "Because we've been waiting for awhile and you wouldn't help us. Â We just wanted a beer." Â He yells at us with "Well, you're probably from out of town anyway. Â We don't need your service." Â
Yah, I'm from out of town like you don't need my business.
I will give this place four stars for what it is. Â The bartenders are pretty good, decent beers on tap, some places to sit, shuffleboard and some pool tables. Â The customers are an interesting mix of older, more subdued locals, and roudy young locals, and then there are the tourists... Â If you went to HHS and want to have awkward conversations with people you once knew, knock yourself out at this bar. Â If you are a tourist, please, PLEASE do not come to this bar to observe locals in their natural habitat. Â It is repellant, and you can be spotted a mile away. Â Furthermore, don't spend all day during barrel tasting getting drunk with your stupid wrist band after paying $5 and then come to this bar with your lame little preppy outfits and act like you own the place. Â Go to barndiva...
Review Source:This must have been the official "Wedding After Party" for several celebrations last weekend. Â I spotted two brides and tons of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Â I actually felt a little out of place, like i was actually crashing the wedding. Â I spotted a few locals, although if I were one, i probably wouldn't have been very happy with my bar being invaded. Overall, this was a fun spot with a happy marriage-bliss vibe.
Review Source:Being in this bar is like a high school party in a hallway. John & Zeke's has been THE tourist trap bar in town for years. There's nowhere to sit where you won't get elbowed in the head or beer spilled on you. Slow service, wine-drunk tourists, bad music, the list is endless. Avoid at all costs.
Review Source:I agree with Dr. M - John & Zeke's IS the place for non-locals.  If you want the same feel (just as small and crude), try the B&B down the street.  Service at John & Zeke's can SUCK, esp. on a busy night (i.e. when all the dumbass college kids come back to town and need a place to drink- first  hand experience).
Review Source:John and Zekes, on the square in Healdsburg.
Local hang, great bartenders, shuffleboard and a couple of pool tables. Not sytlish, not pretty, just a great local bar that I can't avoid when I am in town. Ask for Tony, get a beer, gawk at the Boar's Head gracing the back bar, play a game of pool or pinball, get another drink and enjoy the fact that you have nothing better to do than hang out with friends and shoot the sh*t.
