Johnny's Tavern

I've known about Johnny's for awhile but have never made it in before a few weeks ago.  It was the last stop on our 20-30 Pub Crawl, can't beat karaoke to end up a night!  Place was packed, everyone was super friendly.  Hot dogs and beer...makes me a happy girl.  Bathroom was clean.  I hope to come in here a bit more often now that I know how much fun it is!  I met Johnny of Johnny's Tavern too, he introduced himself, thanked me for coming in and gave me a kiss on each cheek for a send off.

Walking in it seemed like a Healdsburg institution.

I have to admit....I didn't know of Johnny's Tavern until last night, even though I had driven by it numerous times.

It's a small bar that has only two beers on tap, some bottles, and lots of hot dogs. I still don't get Healdsburgs fascination with hot dogs at bars.

Thursday is karaoke night and the place was packed. This is real karaoke, where everyone including the audience sings along. Its not karaoke in the back corner of the bar....its the entertainment of the night. This is how karaoke is meant to be.

Great energy and really where the locals hangout in healdsburg.

You all know the old KISS theory?  Keep it simple stupid?  Well, Johnny's Tavern embraces it!  Hot dogs.  He has hot dogs.  Chili Dogs.  He has chili dogs.  And they are good dogs. Not spectacular, but good solid dogs.  And beer.  And a couple of bottles of wine.  And some sodas.  That's it.  But he does also offer a Karaoke Night on Thursdays (at least when this was written) and music on Friday nights, it's open mic so not sure how good or bad either of these are, but it sounds like a fun time could be had.  And Johnny's a nice guy.  His hours are short; lunch to 4:30 or 5:00 most days, although Karaoke night is till 2:00 a.m. (Thursday, the new Friday) and Friday night's open mic is stated as "until close" so I guess it's Johnny's call on that, could be anytime, guess it's when Johnny gets tired.

LindySez: I had a fun afternoon eating a dog at Johnny's.  And he encourages you to throw your peanut shells on the floor.  Oh, did I mention he gives you peanuts?  Yep, to throw the shells on the floor.  Johnny likes it that way.
