Hmmm...heard lots about Upper Tap. Coming back from Chicago so finally stopped. The chef/maestro, as named in other reviews, poured their famous cheese balls out of a bag after taking from freezer. Think they could be bought from door to door Schwanns man. Same thing w/onion rings. Other than chicken/mushroom/Swiss wrap nothing different on menu than any other bar. Bacon on blt was great but I don't thing the chef made it. Came in a basket w/chips and a pickle. Beer choices were good. Service was very good. Wouldn't go out of way to come back. Not at all what I thought it would be :(

    Tuesday, 1:00 P.M.
I had lunch at Kicks so I didn't eat but I saw a couple prior reviews mentioning Krispy Kream burgers and remembered seeing a Food Channel show about a minor league stadium around St. Louis (I think) that serves them. With bacon on them how could you go wrong?
It's a long low room that probably seats around 60 including the bar stools and every inch of the cieling is covered with sports banners and scarves. There are five taps with some pretty good beers but I grabbed a bottle of Schlafly's Pale Ale which sadly is not available this far north.
Megan was the server who was pretty busy when I came in so I didn't bother her until it slowed down a little. When she had time to talk she was as upbeat as good to look at and had sincere greetings and good-byes to everyone coming or going.
I didn't get the name of the guy running the grill but running is an understatement. The grill is probably not much more than a yard square, if that, and he was cranking out some serious wraps, burgers, and tortilla basket salads. There's a two burner top to keep things warm and a two basket fryer. That's a little for a lot of service but this guy was non-stop motion. When I did get to speak with him it was largely about the Schlafly Bottleworks, how cool and friendly the place is, and how it's a shame we don't get it in Chicago.
I would absolutely give the food a shot the next time I get through Lexington.
The set of salt & pepper shakers on the counter behind the bar of two pigs locked in an intimate embrace should be required shaking at all diners.
