I grew up just down the road from the original Knoth's location. Â I left over 40 years ago, just after high school. Â I still think of the "new" location as The Diamond, but the food is as good as always. Â I've had lots of BBQ in many places around the world. Â My benchmark for BBQ is still a pork sandwich, no sauce. Â Western Kentucky is the best in the world, and Knoth's is at the top.
Hospitality is also great. Â During my last visit from California, I met up with my brother and his wife and daughter, now from Atlanta. Â We stopped by the Coon Dog Inn in Fredonia for a take-out Chocolate Meringue pie. Â My niece has never lived in Kentucky, but she knows the food so we're making all the rounds. Â We take the pie to Knoth's and share with the waitress in exchange for plates and forks to go with the pork sandwiches. Â That's the kind of hospitality you'd get in your mother's kitchen.
Here's the thing: Â every time I return for a sandwich, or share a shoulder with family, it's always as good as I remember.
