I miss this bar and mostly all the people that went!!!! I met a lot of my good friends there!! I wish it was still there not this Santa rosa bar they opened up!!! Now that's a lame bar but my friend is a bartender there and she kicks ass!! And the DJ is also a friend of mine!! They are missing Barry and that's a big problem for me because Barry is the best bartender I have ever had. Sweet guy! I used to work here at Kjs!!! Sigh memories!!! Shit alot of good & crazy ones!!
Review Source:I give this place three stars only because it's in Sonoma County. Â Any bar in Sonoma County automatically gets at least one star because it's a rural county with little night life to speak of. Â
I was there on Saturday night (five dollar cover). Â The place was busy, which is good. Â The beer selection on tap was nothing to write home about. Â It was karaoke night. Â It sounded awful as karaoke does. Â Then they went into an hour of line dancing lessons, which is cool if you're into that, annoying if you're not. Â One thing I noticed is a lot of overweight chicks. Â I'm not quite sold that fat bottomed girls make the rockin' world go round. Â If you are, this may be your place. Â Too bad they charge a cover to see the livestock.
Thursday Nights is the night to go! I used to go a lot because its the Thursday night thing to do with my friends.
Stanyan is the best bartender ever. Hands down. And Malibu Barbies are delicious.
I'm a huge country fan, so its nice to hang out at the bar section and just listen to gool ol' country music. And hip hop mixed in for people who are tryin' to shake their thaaaang.
Drove about an hour to come here since my friends loved it so much. Â Out of the 3 places I've been to in California (here, Saddlerack and Rodeo Club), I felt that this place was most like the honky tonks I went to in Texas.
It's housed in this barn/warehouse kind of place, lots of open space and high ceilings. Â My friends and I kept getting the $2 PBRs, and I think their shots are reasonably priced, though I was too drunk to remember. Â
This place doesn't play solely country music, which was actually a bit of a disappointment, but perhaps a good thing for a lot of people. Â I participated in a few line dances which were pretty fun, and I thought people were pretty friendly.
The only downside for me is that it is an 18+ bar, and once you hit 21 it's kind of weird to see such young people around.
I love line dancing and this was the only place that offered a good, safe night out when you are under 21 (sorry I was one of those underage kids there). The place was clean and the security was nice. I will go back from time to time to line dance but not for free style, (with hip hop) too much grinding for me, thanks. There is a cover charge on both 18-20 and 21 and over sides (21 and over is cheaper). If you are over 21 you can go after 12 and get in for free. They have coin slot pool tables on both sides if you don't feel like hanging at the bar or dancing. They do have a smoking room but from what I hear it is nasty. I would recommend this place if you like country music! Yee- haw!
Review Source:First of all, it is a COUNTRY BAR. If you don't like country music at all...DO NOT GO TO KODIAK JACKS.
If you do like country music, or even don't mind it, then it is a very fun place to go. It is "hip-hop" enough to say it is not a "cowboy bar"...unlike previous posts, there are very few "belt buckle" cowboys. Or rednecks. It can get a little young with the 18-21 crowd below, but that is what a lot of people come for...that is the dance crowd.
Go early, enjoy hanging out and singing karaoke if you like. Barry, Beth and Stanyan are behind the bar. Barry is a great guy and Beth is a saucy firecracker....a great mix of "hotness to catch your eye" and "salty enough to put you in your place". Good prices on food and drinks and if your are respectful then there is never any trouble.
As a summary, this place is fun, clean, and decently priced, if you enjoy a country bar.
Now to vent on moronic Yelpers that are either ignorant or are purposely trying to give a place a bad rating. How many are there? Well, at least 4 people who reviewed this place before me!!
First, what the h*ll are you expecting when you go to a place like "Kodiak Jack's"? A yuppie bar?? Come on!!
It's sad that some newbie Yelpers as well as longer-time Yelpers would give such amaturish, useless, and lame reviews. Was the place clean? Was it too loud? Was the food good? Was it too expensive? We wouldn't know from three reviewers because they ONLY gave it a bad review because it was a Country music place. (Refer to my previous paragraph on that.)
And I am not defending line dancing, but the very first review is merely showing complete ignorance. Line dancing is done to ALL kinds of music, and line dancing is done ALL over the World (being especially popular on the East Coast, the UK, Australia, Japan, and several other places). Referring to my previous comments, what would you expect from a place called "Kodiak Jack's"? Complete ignorance demonstrated in succinct fashion.
One previous review was a resonablly stated opinion where previous experiences were noted, actually having something to do with the establishment rather than the person's irrational hatred of Country music.
And to the guy who claims they are prejudiced, the place is too far away for me to go very often, but the last couple of times I was there, it was in the company of firends who were either white, black, mexican, or Indian (as in the country). I have never heard a complaint of racism, nor have I seen it. In your review, you didn't state whether it was patrons or the staff. I have always found the staff to be extremely friendly and none of my friends ever complained. If it was patrons, then maybe that was an off night.
My wife, who is an Elite Yelper, always goes to a place twice before she reviews, and she reviews the place. If she hated Country music, she would disclose that, but she wouldn't trash the rating for a place simply because she hated Country music. I often look to Yelp to choose places to go, but reviewers like four one-stars reviewers ruin the reliability of Yelp as an informed source.
And I really like Country music, but I only gave this place 4 stars because I have generally been there only for special events with large groups and I've never had the food. The bar tender is very good, however, and the drink prices don't seem any worse than most other places that I've been to.
Wow, I'm at a lost for words. This place is a joke! I got here at 11pm and I was asked to leave at 12:15 because I appeared too drunk? This place is racist, I'm Mexican and I should have believed the rumors.... I'm very much dissapointed with the staff and the way I was treated. Don't come here if you're not white, because apparently you ain't "right."
Review Source:I gotta hand it to this club - they sure try to mix it up with a variety of different events! Â I swear its always a different experience each time I go to this dance club! Here's their calendar of events which goes to show that they always have something going on...
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.256north.us%2Fcalendar.html&s=5c173dec99f6f8f69077097f3da4a2712faad25c1d67c934436750b96680f9fa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.256north.us/c…</a>
So why 3 stars?? I chose this rating because their are times where I have had a terrible time...and nights that were amazing! Â It all depends on the theme and the crowd...As with most clubs :) Â Another popular feature is that this club offers entry for 18 and older around 10:30pm.
So...If you want to roll the dice...go see how your night turns out at Kodiak Jacks...Just hope you dont get snake eyes ;) Â Or dancing thugs :/
OK, I know I'm a little biased here being as I've been the DJ at Kodiak's on Thursday nights for the past 10 years or so, but after reading some of the reviews, I thought I should clear a few things up.  To start with, the crowd we get is pretty mixed.  It's not just a bunch of Shit kicking rednecks although we do have our share.  Thursday nights are definitely more of a college crowd anywhere from the young ones 18 on up to late 20's and mid 30's.  The dress attire definitely ranges from extremely casual to some that show up in more preppy and formal attire.  The bartenders in my opinion are friendly and do a great job of taking care of  the patrons who aren't total dush bags.  Basically put, if you're cool to them, they'll be cool to you!  On a sidenote to all you young up and coming bar patrons...  Don't be cheap...  Tip your barstaff!!! Â
Now, as far as the music and dancing... Â On Thursday and Saturday nights, Karaoke usually leads the night ending at around 9:30pm. Â Then we teach a dance lesson which takes us to about 10-10:15pm. Â After the lesson it's a mixture of line dancing and couples dancing until around 11:30pm. Â Mostly country music but a few other pop and top 40 songs that have dances we do to them. Â In reference to MJ E's comment, we've NEVER linedanced to Flo Rida! Â Anyway, at around 11:30pm we switch it up and play a mix of top 40, RnB, and Hip Hop for about 40 minutes or so. Â We then switch it back to a little bit more linedancing and then finish with another set of Top 40, RnB, and Hip Hop to finish the night. Â On Friday nights for all those into just Top 40, RnB, Hip Hop, etc., we offer "Intuition" with DJ Amen & The Noisemakers. Â It's an 18 and over night, doors open at 10pm. Â Overall, Kodiak Jack's is a fun, relaxed atmosphere, where you can dance and/or drink the night away!
I have been going to Kodiak Jacks on-and-off for a couple thursdays this summer and I have recently had an experience which has convinced me that i will no longer go there. The customer service, and overall friendliness (or lack thereof) is revolting. Â Their service people are breathtakingly rude and this establishment is a pathetic and lifeless, and completely without class. If your toothless and wearing a shirt with no sleeves, this place is for you.
Review Source:If you give this place more than a star you're an idiot!! This is the worst place to go, especially if you're over 21. Thursday night is line dancing all the damn night. Who the hell line dances to Flo Rida?!?!?! Petaluma hicks, that's who. The people dance like they have a gun to their head. DO NOT waste your time. The drive to SF is worth it. Even Infusions is a good option if you want to stay in Petaluma.
Review Source:I am shocked I had a decent time at a bar that lets 18 year olds in on the weekends. Â Country music is my guilty pleasure and I'm down to get a little redneck every once in a while. Â
All the big kids hangout in the upstairs area which has a banquette-style bar, pool tables and lots of mullets and tattoos. Â
The college kiddies have to stay downstairs (don't bring your drink on to the dancefloor!  You will come face-to-face  with a gigundo bouncer who might sumo-wrestle you back behind the railing). Â
KJ's mainly plays current country hits, but will alternate with Top 40 every hour or so (line dancing is fun and all, but I suppose the younger crowd needs to get their grind on). Â If you arrive at the bar early, they offer free line dancing lessons so you won't look like a jackass next to everyone else. Â
The place is crawling with coast guard guys....and the jury's still out on whether this is a pro or a con. Â If you dont want to go to the Saddle Rack and need another country line-dancing bar in the bay, check out KJ's.
Best place in town to party if you're stuck in Petaluma and can't seem to find a decent house party. Â Country music at first, but if I remember correctly (my memory's a little fuzzy if you know what I mean) I swear there was some hip hop later on in the night, so the music selection isn't completely limited. Â Had a decent time and got sufficiently wasted.
Review Source:Located all the way in Petaluma, home of the annual International Arm Wrestling Championship and primary area where most of the movie "American Graffiti" was filmed.
Nightlife in Petaluma is quite an adventure. Â You will not feel as if you are in California when you spend a night here. Â It has a Texas vibe to it with line dancing and country music. Â For us urbanites, it will be foreign, but the people are so friendly, that, you'll have a great time there. Â If you are looking for something other than the typical nightlife you find in the City which is laser lights, techno music, and the ostentatious glitter of cosmopolitan life, try Kodiak Jack's.
The actual name is "Kodiak Jack's Honkey Tonk and Saloon." Â The actual street address is 256 N Petaluma Blvd.
It was refreshing to me. Â There's karaoke, line dancing, and offers a differing perspective on night life in American culture. Â I like walking about Petaluma at night in the summer. Â It's darker and there's a feeling of being far away from the distractions of city life. Â It's very safe at night as well. Â There's an intriguing social atmosphere where ever you go. Â Inside Kodiak Jack's you'll notice that the 21 and over crowd are segregated from the kiddies who all congregate and act angsty over in the back as they sip on diet cokes and talk about anti-disestablishment. Â It's cute.
The steaks are not bad and the social atmosphere is fascinating. Â Don't be surprised if you feel out of place for not wearing a cowboy hat. Â Wear your best denim and bring your most courteous smile. Â If you have cowboy boots stashed away in your closet or even an "I Voted For George Bush Jr." T-shirt, you'll probably be able to assimilate better here (to you bleeding hearts, that was supposed to be funny).
That being said, everyone is welcome. Â No, it's not anti-social because the politics are different. Â Actually, this area is probably more liberal than SF. Â A local may disagree with me.
It's a flirtatious place that is many miles away from the usual night life we experience in San Francisco. Â If you have an open mind, you will have the night of your life.
