Krush, Krush, Krush

At first I was weary of going - I judged a book by its cover and I was always told never to do that!

I have to say I was pretty impressed with the place once I actually got inside - I've lived in Austin all my years - and even saw the bar before it but never ventured inside. I'm glad I gave Krush a shot.

The bar is huge inside, and they even have a lounge type area on the side - best part, the waitress came right up to me and my friends when we sat there. We were just drinking bottles and drafts so I can speak for the prices of the drinks - but the beer prices were pretty good - I walked out with more money than I thought I would have. haha

The music that night was a live band doing some cover songs - they actually had people up and dancing!

All in all - it was a good experience. Far from downtown, but I had just as good of a time. Clean place, friendly attentive waitress, and good prices on beer and drafts. Needless to say - me and my buddies will be going back!

Thank you Krush.

I visited this place over the weekend to take in some college football and the UFC fights. I'd never been before, but the lack of people surprised me given that it was a weekend evening. They also charged a cover to get in the door, which I assume is to pay for the fights that they had to order. There were plenty of tables & TVs tuned to your sport of choice, so at least my cover charge wasn't a complete waste.

Like some of the other reviewers, I found the service to be terrible. We started out at the bar and opened a tab, but then found a table to accomodate our growing crowd of people. The servers in that area avoiding us for at least an hour, so we kept returning to the bar to order. Finally, one of them came by and asked if we needed drinks, but she never brought them to us. Instead, the bartender we had originally opened the tabs with came by to let us know that the tabs were being transferred to one of the waitresses. Well, the first waitress never came back and we were approached by a second one who said that she would now have our tabs and take our orders. In the span of 15 minutes, we went through 1 bartender and 2 waitresses? Yikes... None of them had a good attitude, either, which didn't help the exchange.

At that point, I think we were just tired of being shuffled around, so we decided to close out and leave. Well, we tried for a while anyway, but our newest waitress had disappeared. We did manage to find her some time later sitting outside on the patio, at a table, talking to her friends. Great service there - please don't quit your day job.

Unimpressed... Next time, I'll stick to a local dive bar or I'll cough up the money for cab fare to downtown.

I invited some friends to Krush Lounge last night to check out a great local Austin band called The Brew http://www.brewmusic.com and we loved their music as always. However, our overall experience with Krush Lounge was very disappointing. I will give them props on their drinks and drink prices, that's the only reason they get 2 stars instead of only 1. All drinks were top notch and at a great price! The food on the other hand wasn't great and the service was absolutely terrible.

The music venue... Stage placement, size, etc. works well. The acoustics suffer from the concrete floor and too many other exposed hard surfaces. The venue could benefit from some simple sound deadening material on the walls and that would greatly enhance the musical experience. 1 Star.

The food... I had the Southwestern Eggrolls which were straight from a box when the bartender assured me they were handmade, come on. My Monterrey Wrap while being large had NO flavor and the fries were the usual "seasoned fries" from a box. 1 Star.

The drinks... Great drinks, great prices! Great job guys! 4 Stars.

The service... I admit, we committed the unpardonable sin of starting a tab at the bar then moving to a table but the bottom line is that I was told by our waitress that she couldn't help us because she didn't have our tab, that's ridiculous!! 1 Star.

The web site... Good information, good look, I like it! 3 Stars.
I have to admit, their prices are reasonable but if the food isn't good and the wait staff doesn't want to make your experience enjoyable, then who cares. I will go back to Krush and give them another chance because I want them to succeed as we really need an establishment with their concept in this area. I would just like to see more from Krush Lounge which makes the following claim on its website "Krush Bar epitomizes everything about Austin...great food at a great price, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff..."

Overall rating... 2 Stars.

Krush's Yelp profile claims that " Krush is the newest downtown restaurant and bar in North Austin"

Let me tell you something Krush...you are no downtown bar. Your just a pretender And let me tell you why. Do not open for business early and then treat anyone who bothers to come in at other than peak hours like crap. I dropped by to try out Krush around 4pm hoping i would find a great new bar up North. The bar drinks on there website look so good but when i asked for a specialty martini I was told they didn't have any. I then got a Mojito that was awful. I tried the food which was surprisingly not bad. I had the fried calamari which i did enjoy. Then i waited around...all by myself until i was noticed again by someone and tried a Patron margarita that was slightly better. I tried several times to make small talk with the person acting as the bartender but i was made to feel like i was bothering him rather than being friendly. It was a very unfriendly feeling and it frankly sucked. I felt so embarrassed to be in there at this point so i had to leave.

To be fair i probably will try out Krush again, but only during a more popular time of night and with some buds and I'll update a review then. But a bit of advice for Krush management...For gawds sakes dont open until and unless you are willing to serve and treat people the way you should if you want to stay in business and act like a class downtown bar.

Wasn't there a movie where they took a face off of somebody, and put it on another person? Cuz walking into Krush was like watching that movie. For the most part, Krush is just Merkaba with a cheap facelift. Now don't let that deter you, cuz I've had some good times when it was Merkaba, but don't get your hopes up that it is anything special or outrageously different.

So time to break things down Jazzy Jeff style...Tuesdays are $2.00 drafts all day and night, domestic or import...and they've got a nice selection of 22 different drafts. Sah-weetness. And bonus points for having frosted pint glasses. The sweet nectar always tastes better when poured in a frosted pint glass.

As far as food, prices aren't bad. You can get 6 chicken tenders for $4.00, or a 1/4 burger (no cheese) + fries for $.5.00. But ifyou want a single slice of cheese, that'll tack on another $1.00. REALLY? A dollar for a single slice of crappy cheese?? Ya, kinda rediculous. For the most part, the burger is something to spend $5.00 on to put in your stomach, but don't expect anything gourmet.

One of the good things about Krush is the space. They've got a long U shaped bar with several tvs along the sides to catch whatever game or channel you like. They were showing the Lakers/Magic game, and had the sound turn on which was nice. PLus they have a projector setup in the rear (what use to be the stage area) along w/a couple pool tables and some electronic games (bowling and Golden Tee if I'm not mistaken). And they still have the side patio area for go have a smoke and chill out. From what I noticed, waitressess also service that area, so no having to leave your seat to grab a drink.

Bartenders on Tuesday were also chatty when it was slow, and got down to it when the bar got busy, but always made sure my mug wasn't empty. And when it comes down to shot time, there ain't no measuring cups. So here's to Krush for not krushing my bank account last night... Cheers
