My husband had the carne asada quesadilla and I had the chicken enchiladas. The quesadilla had a hair in it... Yuck!! The waitress was very accommodating and offered to get him a new quesadilla, and didn't put the quesadilla on our tab. My husband said the quesadilla tasted pretty good. The enchiladas were NOT good.. The sauce tasted old and almost had a chunkiness to it. Probably the worst tasting enchiladas I've ever had. We went at about noon on a Thursday, and there was nobody there... The only reason I give three stars is because the waitress was very nice, very attentive, and our food got to us quickly. However, this is not a place we'll stop at again.
Review Source:I have gone to this restaurant three times over the course of two years. All times they have failed. The most recent time and experience that made me write this review took place on May 20, 2013.
The first two times I got my roommates food and mine in the drive thru was sub par and took forever to say the least.
The experience on May 20, 2013 was just not good to say the least. At first when I walked in the restuarant and saw the interior it appeared to give off a higher end Mexican restaurant feeling or atleast tried to. The service was descent no complaints there besides the the waitress not knowing exactly what's on the Torta, which I later found out had cheese on it after returning home to find out in disappointment.
The food took about fifteen minutes to make which seemed to be majority cold somehow and definitely not fresh. The tacos I ordered without salsa had obviously had salsa on them originally but the chef decided not to fix his mistake and serve them anyway. The burritos where engulfed in cheese to be kind and just plain out just not good.
My recommendation if you want to be a restaurant take pride in your profession, use higher quality ingredients, and  make your food "fresh" as in made to order(Instead of buying a new deck for your outside area).
I was also the only person in the establishment when I got food.
Sunday nite May 5,Cinco de Mayo was another delicious experience. The Taquiza entree with four tacos: 2 pork, 1 beef, 1chicken was the best offering yet! Sal engaged us in unrushed sprightly conversation till closing @ 9 PM. Love this restaurant so much, words cannot accurately convey the delight we experienced.
Review Source:We periodically eat here and have never been disappointed. Â We appreciate the drive thru which allows us to get their awesome burritos on the go. Â We have also eaten there. Â It is a bit expensive for Mexican food, but good none the less. Â I have gotten the tamale in the past and was not impressed. Â Chili Reno was descent. However, the burritos are what we go there for.
Review Source:I have to admit the first time I went here (for take out, many years ago) I was not impressed. Â I am glad I gave it another try. Â Now, I stop in for take out a couple of times a month. Â I have never been disappointed. Â The drive up service is very friendly. Â The portions have been generous and tasty. Â I have mostly ordered burritos and a couple of tacos, but am still exploring the menu. Â Reading other Yelps, we might want to "eat in" and try the margaritas soon. Â I am always happy to avoid the chains, if possible, and this is a good option. Â Give it a try!
Review Source:Sweet people, great service, decent Margarita and delicious food. Â We had the ceviche appetizer (tilapia) and it was clean, fresh, and just the right amount of spicy. Â The Chile Rellenos were very good. Â Rice and beans were much better than expected. Â The real surprise were the corn tortillas, they were homemade and soft, utterly scrumptious. Â I took my two extra tortillas home, too good to waste!
Review Source:I *love* this restaurant! Â It's our new fave place to take our family for lunch or dinner. Â The food is always fresh, authentic and delicious, we have been pleased with everything we've ordered. Â The margaritas are as good as the ones we make at home, top notch mixer! Â The gentleman who has served us has seemed to be the owner, not sure, but he is fantastic, friendly, quick service and very professional. Â You should give this place a try! Â Oh, we also have 2 young boys under the age of 6 and they love the food, it's also a child-friendly place.
Review Source:Thanks to Yelp, we discovered this delight on our way back north from our snowbird trip and I am compelled to write my first review. Â First, the chips! We ate two baskets with their special green salsa! Crispy, not too salty, and great salsa. Next, a margarita, with no skimping on the hooch. Dinner for me was carne asada, tender, full of flavor, beans on the side that were not your usual tasteless paste, and perfect rice. Hubby had the night's special, salmon and prawns, prepared in what I can imagine is an authentic and traditional south of the border style. Although the price does merit a $$ rating, it is obvious that the ingredients are quality. Service was outstanding and the place was very busy. Obviously a locals favorite.
Review Source:I've driven by this place dozens of times over the years on my way south from Santa Cruz, but having moved into the area recently I finally decided to give it a try. It's fantastic! In a few visits I haven't been able to stray from the fresh, made to order chiles rellenos with sauce made from scratch (they say nothing they cook is from the can and I believe it). The chiles are better than anything I've had in Watsonville. Â The hubby has had and enjoyed the lengua, chile verde and tonight's special - a fajita plate with tilapia, prawns, and skirt steak. Delicious corn tortillas. We usually get take out because the interior is not too enticing, and they even have a drive thru. La Tapatia does not disappoint!
