THe fish was OK. Â I got perch because I love perch, but did not find it overly tasty. Â My friend got bluegill which I normally don't like and I thought it was pretty good. Â Didn't like the tartar sauce. Â What I didn't like most of all was the ridiculously long wait in the bar especially when the tables weren't all full. Â There was no place to sit, there were 6 of us and we were tired. Â We had to stand for over an hour before getting the food. Â It was hard to talk, no one waited on us. Â We were not prepared for this and I would never go back.
Review Source:The fish fry is great....but the policy of making people wait an hour (or more!) for their food so they can make more money from their bar is unacceptable. Â Call ahead and take it out, or plan on waiting a LONG time for your food. Â We've been there on nights other than Fridays, and the waiting policy is the same on all of the nights we have been there. Â Too bad, as this place would be a gem without the enforced waiting times.
Review Source:I give this place a 3. The food is good most of the time but I have had better. I've gotten burnt food two times before this so I'm not sure how they got the "best fish fry in the Valley" rating because I could name a few places much better with friendlier staff. The wait staff needs to take a class on customer service because they aren't very friendly when they come to your table. We asked for a drink and she told us the bar is right there.
Review Source:We went there last night for fish fry. Â It was apparently ranked best fish fry in the Valley in 2011, but I don't agree w/that ranking. Â I mean, it wasn't awful, but it wasn't the best I've had in the area, by far. Â I highly recommend Old Bavarian's fish fry over this one.
The fish was overly greasy and my husband's 4 pieces were pretty small, Â noticeably smaller than mine. The coleslaw was great, and I'm pretty picky about coleslaw. Â The tartar sauce was ok, but we didn't get any lemons, which was a bummer because lemon is my favorite fish fry condiment. Â We both opted for the Icelandic Haddock, beer-battered, and it didn't seem like it was seasoned at all, just very greasy and bland. Â But anyway, like I said, it wasn't awful, just not great, and definitely didn't meet my expectations for "Best of the Valley."
The service was really good, but we sat at the bar because there weren't any tables available, so that wasn't an ideal situation for eating an actual meal. Â It wasn't packed, but there were groups of people sitting at most of the tables drinking (not eating), which is fair, because it's a bar, but then there were several otherwise vacant tables where it seemed people were just setting their stuff, using up space that could have been put to better use since they were still serving dinner.
I'd go back to the place maybe for a Packer game or night out, because the ambiance was nice and the staff was great (besides one guy who seemed to be a dishwasher who was slamming stuff around and stomping like he hated the world, but hey, we all have bad days, right?) but based on this experience I wouldn't go back for fish fry or recommend it to friends for fish fry.
Waited in a crowded bar for 1.5 hours after placing our order (presumably so we could pass the time by purchasing a vast selection of America's best Budweiser products). Â Seems unwarranted as the dining room was sparsely occupied for the duration of our stay. Â After this long and confusing wait, we were escorted to our table with our orders already there waiting for us. Â Ordinarily, this might be okay except that there were six of us and our waitress had no idea which fish belonged to whom. Â Overall experience: Fish was good. Â Not worth the wait. Â Slightly overpriced. Â Long wait (be prepared to stand for at least an hour). Service was average.
Review Source:Best Fish Fry in the Valley! Â I have been trying as many fish frys as I could, searching for that quality place. Â Too often we find soggy, oily, rectangular fried fish. Â Not here! Â The fish is flaky, crispy and superb! Â (Also shaped like real pieces of meat) Â My mother-in-law also tried the baked fish and ate the entire thing, which she rarely does. Â Plan on waiting for a table, it is usually pretty busy. Â But SOOOO worth it!
