Quiet in the dining areas but the bar was packed on a rainy summer weeknight. Our server was very attentive, efficient, and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy, elegant, and romantic. The silver margaritas (server recommendation) were terrific. The food was good, not amazing. We had the scallops and the seafood casserole. Portions are small; we should have ordered salads and appetizer as well. Overall very glad we tried it but wish the food was a bit more exciting or that we had sampled other items.
Review Source:We have visited on two occasions, and both times we've been pleased with the outstanding food, warm and classy atmosphere, extensive wine selection, and outstanding service. Â Everything is made fresh daily and in house. Â The executive chef is classically trained, so the flavors of the dishes are rich and exploding with flavor. Â The beef wellington and the Statler chicken are great entrees. Â The stuffed mushrooms and crab stuffed prawns are great appetizers. Â We will definitely return, and we can't wait to do so.
Review Source:While the place is nice, the food is awful. Â My husband started with the soup of the day, Italian wedding soup which tasted like it was made using onion soup mix, brownish in color, one lonely meatball and tons of salt. Â On to the next course, hamburgers. They use good meat but served it on a bun that was still frozen. I ordered mine medium well but it came out rare and totally raw in the middle, which is when I sent it back to the kitchen, Â it returned a charred mess, although this time they toasted the bun.
We were the only people in this fancy room so that any time we needed something we had to get up and find someone.
Not a very pleasant experience, the waitress said as we were leaving come again maybe, next time it will be better. Not on my dime,
So disappointed with Lavinia's. We live in the lakes region and love having new places to try. The first time we went we only had cocktails and some appetizers. The Mac n Cheeze appetizer was great, my husband however, was not thrilled with the spring rolls. But we had a good time and met other friends there. We went back and did the same thing but this time the Mac and Cheese app was dried out and not very good.
I decided to give them another chance and took my husband for his birthday up to the cupola which is a private little room for two and they restaurant adds a 30% gratuity to the staff for climbing up there which we did not mind. All went well until the entrees. I ordered the Statler Chicken and he ordered the Veal Chop. They came back Nd said they we're out of the Statler but could make me Chicken Parm but with gluten free noodles. So I asked if they could give me the chicken Parm with the risotto from the Statler dish on the side. When our meals came my husband was disappointed with the fact that the veal chop was barely a half inch thick. Although it tasted good. My dish however was horrendous. They put the chicken Parm with the tomato sauce on top of the risotto which ruined the risotto. Then when I cut into the chicken it was not on,y overlooked but burnt. They took it off the bill.
It's unfortunate because we don't have a lot up here so want to enjoy what do have. I'm afraid it will only be a stop for an occasional cocktail from now on.
We were thrilled with Lavinia's! In much of New Hampshire we have found that a slight curve in grading is a good approach. Impressively, Lavinia's could easily open its doors in Newport, RI, for example, and do just fine. With a full bar, decent beer selection and a limited-but-compelling wine list the bar alone would be worth a visit. The space is inviting, as are all dining rooms - each with its own character.
We began with a delicous duck spring roll app. and beef stew (hardy & a bit spicy), followed by N.E. Seafood Casserole and Granite Brick Pressed Statler Chicken - all full of taste! Our daughter enjoyed chicken tenders w/ mashed potatos and a wonderful dessert: mini-cupcakes, included with all kids' meals.
Service was stellar, friendly and on-time. Our server was efficient, helpful and very eager to please; proactively notifying us of anything not available, before we decided to order it!
We hope to return!
We live in the Lakes Region and have never visited the Coe House, but we were asked by friends to join us at Lavinas. Â The service was excellent, and the food was excellent. Â Each of us ordered a different selection and everyone was happy. Â They have a few different rooms that each have a different feel, including the cupola table for two. Charming!
Review Source:We were very excited to see a new restaurant in town and were looking forward to checking it out. The first time we went, which was soon after opening, we loved the ambience of the place and loved the food. The service, however, was poor. The salad was forgotten and brought in the middle of dinner and overall we just waited too long for everything. But we chalked it up to the newness and realize they just needed to work out the kinks.
We decided to try again last Friday (7/6). The place was crowded but we were seated within 15 minutes in a room of 4 tables (we were a party of 3). One of the tables were looking at their menu and the other 2 were not yet occupied. Then the wait began. We thought it took quite awhile to be greeted, to order drinks, to get drinks and then order food. But we had no idea what we were in for. The apps came within a reasonable time of odering the food but then we settled in watching the remaining 3 tables order, get served, get served dessert and one even paid their check before we had our food. The water glasses were never re-filled and updates were non-existant. When they told us that our food was really on the way, they offered us a round of drinks but we had already had two glasses of wine and I was drinking ice tea. What they should have done was comp a round we already had or offer free dessert - or something. When the food came it was delicious but I will not go back until I hear some evidence that they have changed their ways. We arrived at 7 and left after 9:30pm. Just because you have the space, you shouldn't fill it if you can't service it.
I was so happy to try this new restaurant in the old Coe House location. I love the renovations they have made and the staff was outstanding. Really enjoyed my fish tacos and my friend enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich. They made a good martini. I liked that you could go more casual or the full entree route. I will definitely be back when I am up at the Lake.
