I've never had a bad meal. Very small place, but not crowded. Even though Lynn, the chef, makes everything herself, it's not a bad wait. The sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had - perfectly crispy with just enough sea salt and herbs. The menu changes every few weeks, but they keep the classics. It is pricey for Castroville, but not for a similar restaurant in San Antonio, and it's as good or better than anything you would get in SA.

I've been here a few times since my last review, the last time on Mother's Day Weekend.  My opinion of this nice little restaurant remains the same.  The food is amazing, and the service is spot-on.  Had I written this a little sooner after my last visit, I'd have included details about my mouth-watering meal.  Since I'm getting a little long in tooth, I'll simply tell you that the meal was flawless, and the desserts were really, really, really good.  We got four and passed them around the table a couple of times.  They didn't stand a chance ;-)

How Le Chat isn't standing-room-only on weekend evenings is baffling.  Obviously I'm not yapping to my friends enough about it.  If you haven't been - Go.  It's good.  Really good.  Fer reals.

The food here is amazing! The only one problem we had was the wait time. We waited for an hour and a half to get our food. Luckily the food made up for it, so I really cant complain about it. But I recommend one of the sandwiches with their mixed potato fries :)

This place is fantastic. A local told us about it. We had the shrimp poor boy and a tenderloin melt sandwich. Both were great. The service was also great.

This place is a gem located in the sleepy town of Castroville.  Simple, yet sophisticated, Le Chat Noir takes a unique approach to "eateries" by  infusing French technique into recognizable American dishes.

We were seated for our lunch in a nook by the entrance.   I ordered a Cobb salad with chicken.  The bacon and white cheddar cheese really made this dish stand out compared to previous Cobb salads.   My wife had the pear and Gorgonzola salad with chicken.  My mother-in-law had the tenderloin melt sandwich, which she really liked.  My wife's grandmother had the shrimp po'boy.   When it was all said and done, all plates were empty.  The sweet potato fries are a real hit here.

We ended our service with a round of freshly made strawberry sorbet, ginger bread topped with salted caramel and creme brulee.  The creme brulee is considered to be the home run of desserts but all three were excellent.

I'm looking forward to our next meal at Le Chat Noir.  Merci!

We ate here on Friday night and had the most wonderful meal! We both had the Beef Tenderloin with Balsamic Glaze and the mashed sweet potatoes. The beef was cooked perfectly..so tender and delicious! The potatoes were creamy with a touch of cinnamon. I had the caesar salad - the best I've ever tasted, and the creme brulee for dessert. My husband had the blackberry cobbler, fresh out of the oven. It was so, so good! The service was excellent! They were very friendly and attentive & I'm so glad to find this restaurant in Castroville. I can't wait to try the sandwiches on the lunch menu next!

My wife and I dined here during a trip away from Austin.  We have traveled all around the country and eaten in some very nice restaurants. This ranks as one of the best we've had.

My wife enjoyed the Roasted Quail and I had the Lemon Butter Salmon.  The quail was cooked excellently, and though there is no polite way to eat a quail, it was a clean plate when my wife was done. The salmon was seared perfectly with a wonderful rare center, that you seldom find when dining out.  The sides were delicious, and only made us anticipate dessert more.

I had Vanilla Creme Brulee, and she had the Chocolate Cheese Cake, the wine that was suggested earlier for her meal paired well with everything, the pepper in the Cabernet really came out when drank with the cake.

The Brulee's top cracked open to reveal a wonder custard filled with real vanilla beans.

Le Chat Noir is a little over an hour and a half from our home in Austin, and we dined there because we were staying in Castroville, but I would make the drive just for an exquisite meal.

Can not say enough good about this little jewel in Castroville. My wife and I enjoy having lunch and dinner here several times a week. The food is always fresh and well prepared. If you have not been here make it a point to try it. You will not be disappointed. We are going back this friday night for lobster.

In the charming town of Castroville, Texas on peaceful Fiorella Street sits a lovely 1800's home-turned-restaurant where my husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch.

Prior to dining at Le Chat Noir, I made several calls to the restaurant to ask questions, make (and subsequently cancel, then reschedule) reservations, get directions, etc... Every phone call was fielded by a friendly, polite and informative voice that belongs to the manager, Monte (Monte even made the effort to return an unanswered phone call; I did not leave a message, but he retrieved my number via caller ID and surprised me with an unexpected call back!).

The quality of the food matches the superb customer service of Le Chat Noir.  The famed cesar salad was as crisp, fresh and perfectly dressed with a garlicky goodness as the many newspaper and magazine reviews promised.  Both the tenderloin sandwich and shrimp po boys also lived up to their much touted reputations.  Despite my usual aversion to mayo-ey and/or remoulade type sauces, the red onion sauce (that was served "on the side" as requested) proved to be an exception to my usual "no thank you" rule.  Our final sampling was the salmon entree.  The fish was  fork tender and well seasoned, as were the two sides that we chose.  Both the broccolini and crunchy green beans were lightly sauteed and nicely complemented the fish.

While I was VERY tempted to indulge in the pina colada cheesecake, prudence overcame preference and I finished my meal with a nice, hot cup of strong (but not overly-so) coffee (and I'll be sure to save room for dessert on my next visit...and there will be many of those!).

I ate here Friday night then came back with my family Saturday night.  This is the nicest restaurant in Castroville in my opinion.  The steak filet was excellent as well as the Ceasar Salad and rivals high end steak restaurants.   I only wish they had bernaise sauce or any steak sauce on hand.  According to the lady who waited on us the 2nd night they don't carry steak sauce.  Monte is very personable and made a great wine choice for our dinner.   Great job La Chat Noir, we will be back.

My husband and I went here for Sunday brunch.  He had the Breakfast Plate, and I had the Eggs Benedict...both were DELICIOUS!  The restaurant is very quaint and cute, and the service is excellent.

We can't wait to go back for dinner...the menu looks even more amazing than the brunch menu, so we will definitely have trouble deciding what to order!

Great date night location. Food was all excellent.  Unique and fresh for this area. Loved the duck. It was done perfectly. I would suggest they dim the lights a bit at night to make it cozier.

Unexpectedly delicious!  This calm, cool, airy retreat in a small house has pretentions to greater things than a small-town restaurant...but not in a bad way.  I expected kitch - I found upscale menu items and stellar service.  You're not in NY...but you could be in Austin.  I went for lunch.  The prosciutto and caprese sandwich was outstanding - crispy fresh bread, fresh basil, buffalo mozzarella.  The only sour note was the supermarket tomato, but it's probably not possible to get better in C'ville.  Next time I'll try dinner.  Worth a repeat.

Finally, a restaurant in Castroville that serves something beyond BBQ and everything fried!

I went here for lunch and ordered the 'Caprese and Prosciutto' sandwich and it was perfect! Fresh basil, mozzarella, tomatoes, and prosciutto served with seasoned sweet potato fries. It smelled wonderful and tasted even better! My friend had the 'Shrimp Po Boy' and the lightly battered shrimp were a nice plump size! She said her sandwich was very good as well.

Situated in one of Castroville's signature saltbox homes with nice elegant country decor. I can't wait to return!

Absolutely some of the best food I've had at a restaurant. The food is fresh and the seasonings and sauces compliment the food. Things are not overly sauced which is a big plus in my book. The chocolate chunk cheesecake is the best I've had ever... I love the sweet potato fries... Well I've loved everything I've eaten there. It's a treat!
    Things I've tried...ceasar salad...yum. It's the real thing
Portobello sandwich...awesome.  Prociutto and mozzarella sandwich...awesome.    Redfish sandwich...awesome.  Hmmm. Stuffed chicken breast,  had artichokes and other great stuff in it with fresh yes homemade spinach hiatus pasta. Ok I'm hungry.
