Went to this Selmon on 6/26/13 at about 330 pm for a going away late luncheon for a military friend. Group of 30. Not my first time there but the second time I had the nachos with okra and fried green tomatoes. I had the nachos with pulled pork and I have to say, too cold and tasted
Like store bought pulled pork in a can. Unimpressed! Maybe with chicken would have been better. Admittedly the large was huge, but a large poorly tasting and uninspiring take on pulled pork did not make up for behemoth portion. Lunch companions each had the meatloaf and both were disappointed by the lack of seasoning. Someone mentioned that the food hasn't been right since Selmon passes away within the last year. I was too turned off to sample dessert although I heard the bread pudding is worth trying. Someone else had chicken and waffle combo and I also saw a huge chicken sandwich which was gone in the blink of an eye. I asked the lunch guest about the grilled chicken sandwich and their opinion was impressed along with the fries.
I did not have any alcohol but their Drink specials are worth mentioning.
Bottom line stick with whatever special of the day and always have the fried green tomatoes.
Big picture, there is nothing about this food here that had me jumping for joy. I had the salmon and vegetables which was just fine. I enjoyed the happy hour specials, but otherwise nothing crazy.
So why the 4 stars? I love bread, and I love places that serve bread before the meal comes out. Not only does Selmon's serve rolls before the entree, but those rolls have some kind of tasty BBQ sauce dripped over them. For this if nothing else, I am a fan.
Came here for a work lunch a few weeks ago. This is a chain restaurant owned by the same folks behind Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's, etc. That means you're going to be given some bread out of a plastic bag to start with. At Lee Roy Selmon's you get dinner rolls with BBQ sauce squirted onto them. I found this strangely amusing. (They don't taste any better than that description makes them sound, though.)
I've had their BBQ once in the distant past and wasn't thrilled with it, so I decided to play it safe and order a burger. It was one of the driest burgers I've ever eaten, despite my ordering it medium in an attempt to avoid that. The fries had that Sysco taste, if you know what I'm saying. Plastic bag again.
Well, at least our server was attentive.
Maybe I shouldn't complain too much, as it was on the company tab, but I strongly recommend not wasting your money on this place.
The name Lee Roy Selmon conjures up a lot of very positive memories for people in the Tampa Bay area. Selmon (#63) was the first Tampa Bay Buccaneer enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame, and he grew up on a small farm in Oklahoma. Lee Roy was raised on his momma's favorite recipes such as Mama Selmon's meatloaf, fried green tomatoes and rib-grabin' barbeque, alongside steaming platters of fresh vegetables from their farm.
Lee Roy started his namesake restaurant chain here on Boy Scout Boulevard in view of Raymond James stadium. Once owned by the gang from Outback Steakhouse, the restaurant empire now includes nine different locations all around the Bay area.
Walking in the front door of the restaurant on Boy Scout you'll find the big bar area to your right with dozens of flat-screen TV's. This was where you would find Lee Roy when he was visiting the restaurant -- shaking hands, letting people take photos, signing autographs, and swapping football stories with the patrons.
To the left is the main dining room with casual booths and tables to manage groups of all sizes. There's a small private dining area that can handle groups of about 40 people, and that's a popular place for groups to hold their weekly and monthly meetings.
The menu at Selmon's can be described as down home comfort food with soups, salads, pub grub appetizers, pulled pork, smoked chicken, fried chicken, meatloaf, cedar plank salmon, burgers, flatbreads, ribs, chicken & waffles, steaks, seafood, and a bunch of really tasty sides. The food is fairly priced, and you get large portions for the money.
Even though Lee Roy passed away a few years ago, the restaurant chain is still going strong, and you can depend on a delicious meal any time of the day.
Met here for lunch last week for the first time. The parking lot was deceptive, in a good way. After circling a few times to find a spot, I assumed that I'd have to wait for a table but was seated immediately. Â Our server was delightful and attenttive. Â I had the Sweet Heat Fried Chicken, and she had the meatloaf. Â Both were loaded with flavor, and very filling. Â I only wished that it came with a slice of cornbread or a biscuit and maybe an additional side(although I was stuffed with the two pieces of chicken and mashed potatoes).
We will definitely eat here again.
Recommended by a local friend and we cannot thank him enough.
Showed up Saturday evening, around 7pm. Â The place was busy, but no wait.
Greeted right away and sat at a large booth to seat 4 very comfortably. Â Cool decor if you know the Bucs and Lee Roy's history. Â Relaxed atmosphere with the music at an enjoyable level.
From what the four of us ordered, no one left disappointed. Â The wings were outstanding to say the least. Â Not huge, but cooked perfectly, not dripping in sauce, with a great grilled flavor.
I had the pulled pork, which had a splash of maple syrup and not an ounce of fat. Â Huge portion too, along with killer collard greens and baked beans. Â Every bite was delicious and prepared perfectly.
Others had the mac and cheese and burgers.
Everyone could not stop raving about the place.
A couple locations if I am not mistaken. Â Highly recommend but don't expect a small bbq joint and you'll be glad you visited.
One of our favorite places to watch the "big game" is Lee Roy Selmon's. It is a sports bar with plenty of Southern home-style cooking. Whenever we are craving wings or want to watch a game, we always head to Lee Roy's. So when they asked if I wanted to watch some March Madness and try the new menu items , I simply couldn't resist.
The folks at Lee Roy's truly outdid themselves with their spring menu items. Inspired by the current basketball season, the menu has items that are delicious and fun to eat, They also provided beer pairings for several of the items for the first time. Since I love beer, I was thrilled to see this addition because I don't always want a mixed drink or a glass of wine with dinner.
The new menu offers three new mixed drinks (3-Point Punch, Tropical Tango Martini, and Perfect Brew-Rita) and two craft beers (Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Goose Island 312). My favorite of the drinks was the Perfect Brew-Rita, which is a twist on the traditional margarita in the form of Shock Top beer.
The new menu also features three dishes that are sure to instant classics at the restaurant (Buffalo Chicken Nachos, Filet Sandwich and Filet Medallions). My favorite dish is a cross between the Filet Sandwich and the Medallions. Both had amazing flavor but in a different way. My boyfriend actually loved the sauce on the sandwich so much that he asked for it with the medallions and it was awesome.
The new dessert menu (Crunch Time Sundae) item is to die for if you love a simple ice cream sundae. It combines vanilla ice cream, Cap'n Crunch cereal, hard shell chocolate, whipped cream and Reese's peanut butter chips. How can you go wrong with that combination of flavor? It was absolutely yummy!

I was in Tampa for the day with a friend and we decided to go here for a drink and some appetizers before we left home for Orlando. Â We were seated in the bar area immediately and the waitress brought us some menus immediately and took our drink order. Â We told her we were waiting on 3 others to join before we ordered any food. Â That was a mistake because we could not get her to come to our table again until she saw the rest of our party arrive. Â I wanted to order another drink in the meantime and an appetizer but that was difficult since we could not find her anywhere for at least 20 minutes. Â The service wasn't very good. Â We also asked her if there were any drink specials on beer and she said no. Â When in fact we later discovered all over the menu it stated $1.99 select beer specials all day, every day which we later had to ask her about and then she finally revealed the beer specials and prices to us.
My friend and I ordered cheese fries and boneless buffalo wings to share. Â They were both pretty good and hit the spot. Â I would try this place again when I'm in the area and would hope service is better next time.
I was not impressed with the food here at all. Â Our wait was very long but once we were seated, things began to go uphill because of our fantastic server. Â We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were okay. Â Then we received our entrees. Â Perhaps I went wrong by ordering their "sides" dinner, which consisted of 3 or 4 sides. Â The greens were mixed with cabbage and was really, really greasy. Â The beans were just okay. Â My husband had pulled pork and I have definitely tasted better. Â "Meh. I've experience better" basically sums up my visit.
Review Source:The only reason they get even 1 star is because I didn't get food poisoning and they gave us a slice of chocolate cake for free after screwing up our order.
We placed a to go order, and we asked "are you sure this is our order?" and the woman said "yes, I just checked." and repeated our order to us. Â I guess we were stupid not to double check, but we drove 20 minutes home and go to eat and realize we got the wrong order. Â When I called to complain they basically said "well come back and get the right one."
The chicken and waffles made my husband sick, I had a cheeseburger and it was straight up nasty. Â I will never eat here again (and we are NOT picky people).
I love the BBQ at Lee Roy Selmon's, but there have been some major misses on the menu. Â
Avoid the Twisted Southern Chicken and the Short Rib Mac & Cheese! Â There are too many elements in these dishes and the result is something that resembles a "piss poor casserole". Â The 63 Pack Sliders are so-so. Â Dry burgers, but excellent pulled pork and brisket sliders. Â
Although there have been several misses lately there are also several dishes that continue to wow me: The Soul Good Pulled Pork and the Bacon Cheese Grits: OMG!!!
My advice: KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid). Order the traditional southern BBQ dishes and avoid the fancy dishes or you'll be disappointed.
Met an old friend for lunch and ordered an old favorite-the chicken Cobb salad, which is truly a delight.
Leroy selmon's use to be owned by the outback corp but no longer-although the quality and consistency appears to remain the same.
The chicken Cobb salad is awesome. First off, it's chopped and served with a unique sugar cane mustard dressing-delish!
The salad has potato sticks, chicken, egg, bell peppers, tomatoes and bacon. Eaten with the great complimentary yeast rolls, this salad is a meal in itself.
Reasonably priced at $10, it's a great choice while over on Boy Scout Rd.
After waiting 10 minutes for a waitstaff to acknowledge our existence, Â we flagged another waitstaff to bring us a menu. We watched our waiter serve other folks and provide them drinks. I know that I'm not invisible...so sitting and waiting for SOMEONE another 12 minutes to take our order...we left and I couldn't wait to get to online to post this review. Yes, it is lunch time but it is a restaurant with plenty of waitstaff. I won't pay for poor service or lack thereof. This restaurant is not going to be on my must visit again list!!!!
Review Source:You fucked me in the face last night, Selmon's.
I'd never had chicken & waffles before, and I can't imagine they get better. Â Chicken tenders are hand-breaded and fried perfectly, still juicy, resting on some of the best (real) buttery mashed potatoes I've had. Â Then they top it with a few spoonfuls of creamed corn, which is actually just nicely buttered corn. Â Mix this up however you want. Â And at $9.95 in a part of town where entrees run $30, this is a welcome place.
It's served with a buttermilk waffle topped with a big blob of whipped cinnamon butter, maple syrup on the side. Â Incredible. Â Again: eat this however you want. Â I threw some corn on my cinnamonny, buttery waffle and dunked it in the syrup. Â So good.
Our friendly, young waitress brought us a warm, moist cloth to wash our hands with at the end of the meal, which was a nice touch. Â She was wearing a football jersey, short shorts and showing a lot of thigh. Â So if that's your thing...
I've checked in here a dozen times it seems and this review is all about the value. For only $8.55 I scored a half-flatbread of BBQ Chicken and a dinner salad. This was probably enough food for two people considering it took me two meals to finish it all. My only beef: give up one more 2oz dressing to cover that much salad.
Review Source:I was recently able to try a brand new entree on Lee Roy Selmon's menu that is insanely delicious: chicken and waffles. Have you had this combination before? Well, Lee Roy Selmons is really doing it right. The plate includes 2 warm buttermilk waffles, which are light golden brown and have a combo of crisp edges and soft insides. There is a serving of cinnamon pecan butter (OH MY GOSH) and rich maple syrup on the side...but we're not done there. Those waffles are topped with sweet heat chicken - white meat boneless chicken (which I personally prefer). And if that wasn't enough...this dish is also served with savory smashed potatoes (I love when there are still chunks in my mashed potatoes), and cream corn. There is salty, there's sweet, there's crunchy, there's creamy...talk about a mixture of texture and flavor!
But, I was not finished with this dish alone! Lee Roy Selmon's is debuting a new small plate concept - Food to Share - and I sampled a good amount of that menu too. There were beef and pork meatballs on a skewer (one of which is wrapped in bacon - yum!) with a creamy smoked chipotle dipping sauce. There's a hint of sweet, salty, and spicy all in one bite - they're wonderful! Next up - two different varieties of chicken tenders are on the small plate menu - the buffalo chicken tenders, served with blue cheese and celery of course! If you're in the mood for a classic chicken tender, there are those as well! They are served with two sauces - the firecracker sauce and a honey mustard vinaigrette. Yum!
If you're like me, you can't resist a warm pretzel. Lee Roy Selmon's is serving up mini loaves of pretzel bread on the small plate menu! The loaves are served with a beer cheese queso sauce for dipping - does it get any better than pretzels and cheese? Classic. Last, but not least, the calamari strips. Typically, when you order calamari, you'll be presented with a dish filled with ring shaped calamari pieces, right? Well, not Lee Roy Selmon's version! Â These are calamari strips, not rings! They are larger pieces of calamari, lightly breaded and seasons, and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. So tasty!
Well, there you have it! Are you drooling yet? If you live in the area, I'd definitely recommend heading to Lee Roy Selmon's for some game day food and fun (there are always big screens throughout the restaurant  so you can catch your team of choice).

Joined an old friend for lunch for my first visit to Selmon's. Â Atmosphere is a typical chain restaurant setting, and not necessarily in a bad way...just not memorable, I suppose. Â Lot's of tv screens if you're looking for some entertainment. Â Excellent service from our server who provided just the right amount of attention and followup.
Tried the regular/lunch size barbecue sandwich, which offered up a huge pile of pulled pork on top of a soft bun. Â I can't imagine how much is offered up in the large version, as I could easily make two servings out of this one. Â Got my sauce on the side so I could get a better taste test....BBQ was lean yet moist with a very mild flavor. Â My preference is for more smoke with stronger flavor, but this was not bad. Â The sauce was light and mild as well. Â It was blasphemous, but I made a weak attempt at healthiness with a side order of broccoli, which was barely ok as it was overcooked. Â I definitely should have ordered something else.
While I appreciated the moist flavor of Selmon's 'cue, I simply didn't find much to get excited about as it was simply too mild for my taste. Â Admittedly, I much prefer small, local BBQ joints run by their own pitmasters, but I can see the appeal of Selmon's. Â Hopefully I'll be able to give it another chance soon, and try their other sides, too.

This place is great!
Was in town a few weeks ago on game day and decided to head over to Lee Roy Selmon's for some early afternoon food and drink. The staff was super friendly, they had great drink specials and the food was above average...What else is there to say?
Oh yeah, if you are coming on a Sunday or other game time, I would probably show up early as this place gets packed!
Three words-- Fried. Â Green. Tomatoes. Â OMG. Â Highly recommend them, but the accompanying dipping sauce is a must. Â So much so that we order it with all other items, as well. Â Check in on 4square, and you get a complimentary order.
Try to make it during happy hour, as the buy 1, get 1 well drinks and dollars off draft beers make the visit all the most worthwhile.
This is the favorite restaurant of not only my boyfriend, but also my sister and brother-in-law. Â Not really a huge BBQ fan, it takes some poking and prodding to get me there, but it is an enjoyable experience. Â Sunday nights sitting in the booths in the bar area is a fun football watching experience. Â
The curbside to go is quick, but to this day, we have never seen them bring an order out-- we usually go inside, and it seems everyone else does, too-- note that the take-out area has a door to the left of the main door-- on the side of the restaurant-- so don't bother with the front entrance, they will steer you away.
As for the food? Â The nachos are good, but I wouldn't say they are anything better than other places. Â The burger sliders, and other sliders for that matters, are winners in my book. Â Always a fan of sliders, these meet, and in some cases, exceed, my expectations. Â There is an appetizer item of sliders-- a lot of them-- I would suggest getting and splitting those, perhaps adding a side item. Â You can add a side and a house salads for a few extra dollars. Â The mashed potatoes are too piece-y, or full of lumps, for my liking, but the cornbread casserole is worth a try. Â The pulled pork sandwich is good, but has a little too much fat. Â The brisket sandwich is better, and full of meat. Â The ribs are good, but not great. Â The salads are actually better than the meat dishes, but I can't really justify a salad while watching a football game.
As you can see, there is a trend for me at this place of good, but not great, food. Â Except for the fried green tomatoes. Â I would go there for those alone!
So, this will be a little awkward of a review....I will have to say two, maybe even one, star for the kitchen but five stars for the waiters and waitresses (and management). As such, my review reflects the balance of these problems and ends up in the middle.
I'll start by stating our waitress was excellent; knew we were on a lunch break and quickly took our orders and got them on the grill. She kept coming by and asking if we needed anything. Very nice!
That service was good, and the not-so-good was the back of the house. The kitchen may have some fundamental issues, or it may have just been an "off" afternoon for them! At any rate, my one coworker had raw salmon and my other had over cooked ribs. Here is where management saved this review from one-star - he replaced both meals, and then comped both of them. The three of us ate for the price of my meal only. Incredible. We insisted on paying for the second meal that was comped but the manager insisted on taking care of it. Again, we were blown away by this.
Overall, good ambiance, and great service. I will try this spot again to see if the kitchen can catch up to the rest of the restaurant.
My friend who has been staying at my house and eating my food and sucking up my ac and hogging my tv and not paying a dime declared that she is hungry and only barbecue will feed her hunger. Â At first I was a little annoyed but I thought it would be a great time to try Lee Roy Selmon's. Â I was not disappointed. Â Everything was tasty from the rolls with the barbecue butter to t he fries to the fried green tomatoes. Â I loved the fresh squeezed greyhound. Â I cannot wait to come back and taste more of their menu.
Review Source:Their ribs are very tasty and a GREAT value for the dollar!!!
Dine in, get the full slab St Louis style rib dinner...$20.
Save some money, order to go from the catering menu, a whole slab...$12.50+tax!!! Â They'll pre-slice in 1 or 2 bones segments. Â Slow smoked with the right amount of char (and not over sauced). Â
So many places charge 18 - 22 for a slab.  There's no minimum order, or  requirement to order in increments of 2 slabs (like Smokey Bones). Â
So, Bones...sorry to let you go, but Selmons has my business. Â Again, great value for the dollar!!
Oh yeah, excellent customer service from the To Go area.
Yum! I've lived in Tampa for 5 years and have, until now, never been to Lee Roy Selmon's! I'm kicking myself for not trying this place sooner, although it's probably a good thing since they don't exactly serve up healthy fare.
The husband and I ordered cheese fries as an appetizer, because if you put cheese fries on your menu, I will eat them. End of story. And they were the shit. The smoky bacon ranch dipping sauce that they came with was insane!!
For our entrees, we both got the pulled pork. It was a little more fatty than I'm used to, but delicious nonetheless. I appreciated the little charred ends. Mmm. Not a huge fan of their BBQ sauce, but it did the trick. I just would have liked it to have the tiniest kick, as it's very sweet.
I got cheese grits as a side, because I've never had grits that i've enjoyed before (literally never), so I figured I'd give them a shot. OMG THEY WERE SO GOOD! So good!!
To round out our gluttonous meal we got a peach cobbler mini dessert. The cobbler part with vanilla ice cream was delicious, but the peaches were so damn hard! Either get ripe peaches or stew the hell out of them to soften them up, but don't give me hard peaches, man. Cobbler is my favorite, so it's a big womp, womp when it's not done correctly.
Oh, and service was awesome. Our waiter was on it, despite the fact that they were really busy and our table was surrounded by screaming brats. Wish I would have gotten his name for next time!
Shhhh! Â Don't tell anyone that an OSU alum went to a Sooner's restaurant. Â That said, it was pretty darn good and actually would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Â
It was obviously premade or frozen, but the portions were large and everything was perfectly cooked and came to the table nice and warm. Â I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and ranch dressing. Â They were thick cut with a nice batter.
I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Â The meatloaf was hearty, but had a little too much smoke flavoring for my liking. Â The potatoes were lumpy - in a good way! - and the mushroom gravy was different that the typical brown gravy.
My daughter got a plate loaded with brisket, mashed potatoes, and  coleslaw with a cirtus undertone.  My husband enjoyed the sweet fried chicken, and I had to snag a bite.  It was moist and the crust had great flavor.
Would I go back? Â If I was in the mood for a quick bite or meeting a large group I sure would.
We were in the mood for BBQ so we decided to try it out. Â One of the first things we noticed was that the menu featured a lot of 'down home cooking'. Â My husband and I had never tried fried green tomatoes before so that was our started. Â We were pleasantly surprised! The batter that they were fried in was very crisp and there was a horseradish sauce to dip them in that was delish! Â The dip was very mild but definitely is better than regular old ranch dipping sauce!
It took a little while to get our orders so our waiter brought us rolls with 'bbq butter'. My husband loved it! Â It simply tasted like bbq sauce and melted butter mixed together. Â I wasn't a big fan.
For our entrees, I had 'sweet heat' fried chicken. I am not a fan of spicy but let me tell you, this sauce was fantastic! Â It was a nice blend of sweet/sour and spicy. Â I've never tasted anything quite like it and I loved it! Â
My husband and ribs and pulled pork with a side of corn casserole that was very tasty. Â The ribs didn't have a ton of meat on them but had great flavor. Â The pork was your standard pulled pork.
All in all, we liked our experience here! Â Everything we had was unique in some way, which made it worth going!
This was my 3rd visit this year and I was very pleased with both the food and service. On today's visit I was just sampling wings and was blown away by the Selmon Brothers' Wings. Slow smoked and served with their signature spicy Oklahoma sauce, these wings are incredible! I love that they are grilled which makes for a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried wings.
You must try their featured corn on the cobb on their summer menu. Â Brushed with chipotle mayo and sprinkled with cotija cheese, it is outstanding! Â I am craving it right now as I type this.
If you are looking for a great place to catch a game or take the family, Selmon's is the perfect place.
Finally, I hit this place up with a co-worker Friday night, and I'm a fan. Â Friendly wait staff, quick to take orders, quick to being food and the prices were fantastic. Â 2 people, 2 meals, 2 Shock Tops and 2 sodas: $29! Â
Collin, thanks for the suggestions in your review. Â The BBQ sauce coated dinner rolls hit the spot! Â I'm not sure why they don't offer those to each table, but it's their loss. Â Luckily, we went in knowing about them! Â I got the pork platter with beans and cole slaw, all of which were fantastic. Â Best BBQ ever? Â No, but pentiful, smokey and tender for sure! Â
Will I go back? Â Yep.
This place was great. Â I was hesitant about it with the shiny menus and all the big screen TVs, but all of that ended up being part of the charm.
Food portions are huge, and food is very solid. Â I loved the breading on the fried green tomatoes. Â For entrees, I had the pulled pork with the cornbread casserole and the greens medley. Â I do wish there was vinegar or hot sauce at the table for the greens, but otherwise, things were awesome. Â My husband had the ribs, grits and baked beans, and he cleaned his plate. Â For dessert, we shared the peach cobbler a la mode (I had more than half of my dinner packed to go so that I would have room for dessert).
Our waitress only had our table, so she was amazingly attentive. Â She brought us samples of the sides so we could taste them before ordering. Â She was all over refills of drinks. Â I really hope her section started filling up because she is wonderful and should be tipped heavily.
Oh! Â The drink menu! Â I'm usually a wine/beer person, but the waitress was recommending a vodka made of oranges, so I had a Madras (basically a screwdriver with fresh squeezed orange juice) with that promotional vodka. Â It was tasty and only about $5.
All in all, for the amount of tasty food we got for less than $50 including a couple cocktails and sodas, this place was a great deal.
