The food was very good so I would really like to rate Lemongrass higher, unfortunately the service here is terrible. All of our food came out at the same time, appetizers, sushi roll, and main course.. not a huge deal but it was a lot at once. Our server never returned to see if we'd like another drink, to check how our food was, or to take any of the many plates out of our way. To top it off we were given the wrong check at the end. It is a shame because the food is wonderful. Probably wouldn't return.
Review Source:I stopped in between lunch and dinner on a weekday and had the place to myself. Â It's nice, I like the ambiance, it seems clean and peaceful.
I ordered: Moat mountain pilsener, organic vegetable fried rice, tom yum soup with scallops, and a 'super maki' roll. I didn't have to wait long for anything. The moat mountain was quite serviceable and light, as I wished. The tom yum and rice came out together. The soup was piping hot so I quickly depleted the tasty rice, and yes it did seem much more organic than regular fried rice. Nothing too exciting, but I mainly ordered it as something cheap to fill out the meal and it did fine. The tom yum was quite spicy, and good with scallops, which I'd never tried. I was not disappointed by the number of actual scallops included. Finally, the super maki roll was the centerpiece of my late lunch. Filled with unagi and other delicious stuff I forget, and topped with salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. This was darn good sushi and for me, as an avid sushi sampler, a new combination that I enjoyed quite a bit. The salmon did taste like it might have been smoked salmon, though, which I thought was unusual but not bad.
After I polished everything off, the bill arrived. Â I think every restaurant is pretty expensive which is why I usually learn to cook whatever I want. Â So as for my opinion of price, it didn't seem to be a special bargain or anything, it's more than I want to spend but for getting some quick sushi on the road it did well. Â I don't think it's a 'must stop' place in town, though if I wanted asian food next time I am in this area I would definitely go here first.
Our party of two arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Â The service was an abomination and we almost walked out 45 minutes after ordering. Â One party received food after 20 minutes -- only soup and a salad. Â the second party hadn't received food after 45 minutes while the waitress kept making excuses. Â We ended up eating separately; not our idea of a nice, quiet lunch. Â It was maddening.
They did offer to take the soup off of our bill.
Having said all that, the food was very good. Â
I am willing to give them a one time pass and would try the restaurant again if I am ever back in the area.
We went to this restaurant because we had a http://restaurant.com coupon and it was stellar!! Everything was freshly made, (you can watch the cook create these dishes from your table) and totally delicious. We started off with very generous Mai Tai's, and went on to sample a delicious calamari appetizer and a fusion salad with a delicious dressing. My husband had the angus steak (I tasted some, it was pure perfection) and I had the crying tiger beef, loaded with beautiful veggies and crispy beef....yummy! We also took an order of special fried rice to go. We had it the next day and it was loaded with seafood and veggies, just delicious. I wish we lived closer so we could sample all the beautiful dishes on their menu....we will be back!!
Review Source:Seriously eat at the bar, same menu. The barkeep who's name was abby, is exceptional. Not only does she smile but she handles high tops and the bar. In addition she makes drinks for the entire dining room. This place has an exceptional drink menu and a great atmosphere. Truly an asset to the lakes region. Did I mention how awesome and attentive Abby is. Doesn't hurt that she's eye candy. So yeah have a martini, and order something with mint in it, she loves to make those...
Review Source:Great for eating in, bad for take-out. Â I enjoy the curry dishes, rolls are good, great drinks and dessert. Â I have done take out and it is not as good, they serve ginger and wasabi in packets (awful) and I recently requested they provide in a small container and I still got the packets.
Review Source:I've passed many times but never stopped. Â However, I took my wife to Lemon Grass for the first time on Valentine's Day. Amazing food beautifully presented and excellent service. The Surf Martini appetizer is a must - succulent crab meat, lobster, shrimp & tobiko in aioli on greens. My only gripes are the calamari was chewy, and the 20% gratuity was included in the bill - not that I wouldn't have tipped that much as the service was worth it, but I prefer to decide for myself. A bit pricey but worth the money as an occasional treat.
Review Source:I have heard wonderful things about this place. I hate to be the first one to say something bad, but here's the scoop. We came here because I have a gluten allergy and everything Thai has rice noodles or rice wrappers. Â Here their menu says rice everything, come to find out, and gladdly not too late, that their wrappers and noodles are all wheat based. Â I hope they will fix this because there is good food here, but I shouldn't have to disect my food. Â Also, a friend ordered a california roll which I am pretty they used canned tuna instead of crab sticks... that was kind of odd and not a pretty smell.
Review Source:This restaurant keeps getting better and better. Â All of the food I have had there has been very very good. Â The service is good too and the servers will steer you right if you are indecisive. Â The Beet and Goat Cheese salad is delicious. Â So is theTtuna Martini. Â so is the...I could go on and on...
Review Source:This place equals or tops the best sushi I have had in the East. The fish is fresh and the cooks are nothing less than great. Even beyond the sushi is amazing meaning that the dinners are more than you can handle and taste fabulous. The owner is so nice (and really makes the best rolls) and the waiters and waitresses a usually more than adequate. Â
Great for dates or just grabbing a quick roll (even to go)
We must have visited on an off-night or something, because it seems that everyone else loves this place. I wasn't impressed, however.
The atmosphere is nice, but my wife and I were seated right near the kitchen, which is of course high traffic and noisy.
The downfall of our meal was our waitress. I can only describe her as crass, not at all what I would expect in an apparently high-class establishment. She hastily attempted to take our order right away, and then, chagrined that we needed a few minutes, came back considerably later.
After ordering, there was an inordinate wait before our food arrived. The lighting was quite dark and I could hardly tell what was on my plate. For me, the food wasn't anything special; bland, unpalatable, fatty. My wife had sushi, and said it was excellent.
Our drinks were empty, but our waitress never checked on us. She spent the whole time at the far end of the restaurant, in a little side room, talking with another waitress who was folding napkins. When she finally came over to give us our check, we decided it would be a good long while before we returned. Simply the worst service we have received almost anywhere.
Nondescript exterior belies the warmth and comfort inside. Â We took the family during a slow snowy lunch and we all loved it, including my picky teenaged son. Â The service was attentive and friendly, and the food was made fresh and fast--you can see the chef from the tables. Â We had sushi, miso, chicken satay, Steak Bento (SO tender), which came with Kim-chi, fried rice, and lovely salad. Â Fried ice cream for desert. Â Good food selection, reportedly all local and organic. Â This place has become a favorite.
I agree with Becky's assessment that sharing is the way to go. Â We shared everything, thus allowing a sampling of tastes.
I Love everything about this restaurant, the food, the people, and especially the reputation they continue to uphold in Mike Love's honor!
I Love the menu(s), very creative, drinks, sushi, etc. Always listen to the specials because they are constantly changing and very yummy.
I Love Sushi....this is clear to everyone so, These guys and gals have their game tight and locked; excellent sashimi, hand rolls, everything excellent.
The service is awesome very helpful, friendly, and quick! I also like being able to see the kitchen. If you have a large party 6+ they have two separate lounges which are very cute.
The greatest part is its fun to share everything you order. You could have an entire meal just from apps! Last time I went, we all ordered different apps; a special consisting of deep fried, squash blossom, tomatoes, and zucchini. Fried oysters. California roll. Basic sashimi plate, hamachi, sake, maguro. Drunken seafood noodle bowl special. Surfer hand roll with lobster, crab, and tobiko. Finished with deep-fried green tea ice cream and cappucinos. For specialty drinks, red dragon pomegranate martini, and someone ordered an excellent limoncello style martini. Needless to say we were all completely satisfied with our bloated bellies : )
Seriously, I've never seen better hospitality than at Lemongrass. Â From the darn cute martini glasses to the amazing cutlery, I want to steal a dish every time I visit. Â But I respect the place too much for that. Â I honestly can't recommend just one dish. Â But I can say that everything I've had at Lemongrass has been amazing. Â
And then there's dessert. Â SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. Â You won't regret it, I promise you. Â And if you go there, get me a chocolate peppermint thingie and mail it to me and you'll get a special prize. Â Promise.
