HIM: A new bar in the Tryon/Landrum area really excited me because there are very few traditional pubs or bars. When we stopped by for happy hour today, I was quickly disappointed. Everything from the lack of a decent wine selection to the poorly trained staff raised red flags about the longevity of the Little Hat. For me, the greatest surprise was the lack of bar snacks. There are zero appetizers on the menu, no nuts, no pretzels, no chips - nothing at all to munch on. Adding to my disappointment were the drink prices - they are at the top end for this market. Little Hat Tavern has a great opportunity; however, they seem to be squandering it.
Her: Â With no wine on the menu except for airline size bottles of Sutter Home (Sutter Home, REALLY??), I opted for a Bloody Mary. Â Tomato juice, vodka, ice, and a wee olive was it. Â No seasoning. Â Not even a stick of celery. Â Nibbles, appetizers, a spare olive? Â Nope. Â Even out of potato chips even though they've only been open about a week and there is a grocery store practically within walking distance. Â OK, so my Mom told me that if I couldn't say anything nice, I shouldn't say anything at all. Â Since I already blew that, I will say that the location is excellent, the atmosphere is OK, and the bathroom was clean.
