I could not love this place more! It was cozy, and magical. I really do not know another word to better describe it. There was something in the air. My family and I visited in fall, the most beautiful time to visit! The leaves were amazing, and this place was something out of a fairy tale. Being from Southern California, I couldn't be more amazed, mistified and awe-inspired. Normally being a beach and city person, I don't really favor the countryside. This trip totally changed my perspective. You drive along the orange-leaved trees, past moss covered grave-yards, old run-down tree houses and burbling brooks. I could rant on and on about this place! It's funny, last time I'd been there was about 3 years ago. I couldn't remember the name, so I went looking for it on the internet. I was overjoyed when an hour later, I found it!
This place leaves me awed every time. I hope you have as happy a time as I, but I'm sure you will! Have fun!
I love exploring this area looking for new and different places to eat. Longwood was a few pages in on Yelp, but once I found it I knew my fiancé and I thought we had to give it a try.
The place is small and classy, the ambiance is lovely. We were greeted, our coats were taken, and then we were escorted into the dining room which had strings of garland, lights, and red bows for Christmas. We sat by the fireplace. The menu is small, with some standards, NY strip with Gorgonzola, standard chicken dishes, etc. and some other, more unique entrees, like quail and duck. I had the duck and it was perfect. The sweet potatoes were incredible. My fiancé had the scallops which were huge and very tasty. You are served a fresh popover with dinner-it was so big I couldn't finish but so light and fluffy with maple butter, just delicious.  We had coffee with dessert-bread pudding. I've never had it so I figured why not. Wow was it good. Super rich, creamy Bailey's and delectable chocolate.
Bottom line: beautiful atmosphere, delectable entrees, worth the trip. Â I'm planning on returning to sample everything else on the menu.
Amazing! The wife and I just had an outstanding meal seated next to the fireplace. Â Service was more than outstanding. The food was perfect. Honestly how can you beat maple butter with popovers! Â And the decor was worth the trip alone. Not one table had the same seats as another. The staff was awesome. Very courteous professional. We were informed that they will be opening their patio dining area this spring. We will definitely be coming back to check that out!
Review Source:The review is for the restaurant portion as my wife and I didn't stay at the inn. Â
We went out for dinner (with no destination in mind) and drove past this restaurant. Â We looked it up on Yelp but didn't see any recent reviews. Â It looked very cozy inside so we decided to stop in for dinner. Â
We had honeymooned in Vermont and this place reminded us of some great B&B's in Vermont so our expectations were high from the moment we walked in. Â We were greeted by Regina at the door and it felt like we went over a friend's house. Â They took our coats and we sat at the table.
For dinner we ordered three apps and three dinners (just for my wife and I....we like to sample everything...) Â Being a college professor, I graded each of the items we ordered and provided a final grade.
Our apps were:
Lobster Bisque
 - Thicker consistency than other bisques I've had but LOADS of lobster chunks.  it could have used more sherry but overall a very good bisque.  Grade:  B
Arugula Salad
 - This salad had goat cheese, pecans, tangerine and pear slices.  Every ingredient complimented each other and I was surprised how the goat cheese just offered a nice texture but wasn't overpowering.  The dressing was very light and didn't drench the salad (PERFECT!).  I really wish we ordered two of these because this salad didn't last long!  Grade:  A
Parmesan Crusted Artichoke Hearts
 - Deep fried and crunchy.  We LOVE artichoke hearts and this was such a unique take on offering them.  I would definitely order these again.  Grade: A
Our dinners were:
Lobster Ravioli
 - The sauce was a light pink sauce with a touch of tomatoes and cream.  The ravioli's were STUFFED with ricotta and lobster.  My mouth is actually watering as I am writing about them.  They were amazing!  Grade:  A+
Filet Mignon
 - Ordered Medium rare and it was cooked perfectly.  It had a melted gorgonzola cheese topping and was on top of mashed potatoes.  Wow, this this an amazing piece of beef and was done brilliantly.  I would have given it an A+ but I didn't like the spiced apples that came with it (I know it's New England but just not my taste)  Grade:  A
Pinwheel salmon
 - Finally we had to throw the towel in so we only got to nibble on the salmon.  The salmon was moist and the spinach and crab meat that was rolled inside was excellent.  We ate this for lunch the next day and it was amazing!  Grade:  A
For dessert, we were brought complimentary popovers with a soft butter. Â It was an amazing end to the meal.
Overall:
This place has such a cozy feel that you think you were whisked away to Vermont. Â The waitstaff is very attentive and they keep the dining casual. Â The hostess is incredibly welcoming and the owner was also very attentive and wanted to ensure we had a great meal. Â Overall the atmosphere was fantastic. Â But we go to restaurants ultimately for the feed and Longwood didn't disappoint. Â We will be frequenting this restaurant hopefully for many years to come.
Final Grade: Â A
THANK YOU Lynn, Tony and Chefs for an absolutely incredible dinner!
Best crab cake we have ever tasted, the brandy demi-glace rocked the rib-eye, PERFECT lamb and that candied butternut squash was like a dessert! GREAT service and GREAT food. EXCELLENT wine selection at decent prices. Glad we came and cant wait to come back!
I was a little nervous with only one review and so many wonderful choices on Main St in Woodbury. But, we made the right choice and had the best overall meal we have had in a long long time.
Started with 2 perfect martinis and a great table next to one of 3 fireplaces. Interior is stunning. One espresso, one lemon (house special). Both were perfect.
As I said, crab cake was best i have ever had, (and we have had MANY crab cakes!) I am not a big artichoke fan but we were fighting over the last bite of the parmesan encrusted artichoke heart app. PERFECT meat! Sauces were spot on. Pomegranate jus was not too sweet or tangy as it can be some places and brought the lamb to new level! Lynn brought us some pipping hot puff-biscut thingys that were perfect for wiping up the sauces Kind of reminded us of yorkshire pudding.
Dessert menu was nice too. We tried the apple crisp with a maple walnut ice cream. It was incredible too!
We rolled out smiling!
It's fun to be the first to review in hopes of building Longwood's clientele. Â They always seem empty, though the food is excellent and the service is great. Â All that PLUS you're eating inside a restored colonial-era dining room. Â I've never stayed at the inn but Mom and I had brunch here yesterday and they have a great prix fixe menu for $24, including non-alcoholic drinks, appetizer, breads, entree, and dessert. Â Well worth it, I'd say. Â My arugula salad was a bit wilted but Mom's lobster bisque was great. Â My seafood crepes were very good and Mom's eggs florentine with spinach and crab cream sauce were great. Â The banana walnut mini-muffins, blueberry scones, and mini croissants were nice but the popovers that came with the entree were delightful. Â The desserts were nice but not my style (mini cheescakes and other delivered cake baked goods).
