I've been to the Lodge Bar and Grill more than a few times and it has its positives and negatives.
The best part about it is the lack of people. Chill crowd and usually around ten people at most during Happy Hour. A lot of the regulars are over fifty. Also, it doesn't feel like a bar and there is a nice view of the grass and pool area.
As far as the negatives, some of the bartenders are some of the rudest people I've encountered in the profession. Having an attitude can be charming to a point but that point seems to get crossed a lot by a few of them to the point of being highly unprofessional. I few friends of mine who were 'regulars' stopped going because it was so bad. There are a few bartenders who are very nice however as well. It doesn't seem to have much management and that is part of the problem I believe.
All in all, if you are looking for a non-traditional bar setting that is fairly down-to-earth and lacks the usual 'cheesy' bar atmosphere then the Lodge may be a spot worth trying.
(QTip: Arrive to LOUD noises in the bushes. Low n behold, a Wookie lumbers out with a skateboard...Hobbles across the parkn' lot. Merry Xmas!!)
My family stayed in one of their suites and one "regular" room. The suite - FREEZING!! Three was a lil space heater for the back bedroom which took about 3 hours to finally get warm. The main living room/sleeping area even though it had a wall heater it "blew" more than it heated. Space-wise though the place was excellent. We had to fit in three adult women and a crib. Being the typical - pack more than you need kind of ladies, and ALL the added luggage one baby "brings along" it was quite spatial. Very much appreciated the fact that the sink and large mirror were separate from the shower and toilet - made getting ready in the morning a better experience than having to wait in the bathroom line at home just to wash my face, brush my teeth.
The "regular" room much better in terms of heat, comfort. The wall heater produced much more heat. To the point where my parents had to turn it down before bed. I ended up watching the Late Late Show that night just to be near the heater ;)
Breakfast - excellent!! With everything from bagels to yogurt to oatmeal to fruit to cocoa and coffee and tea, a true breakfast! Gotta have my hotel coffee with an added pack of cocoa mix - really gets my body moving in the morning - sugar and caffeine high all in one gulp - aaahhh!!
We returned to the Los Gatos Lodge for several weeks now and have not experienced the things we did on the first visit. Â We are enjoying the Monday Night Football with hot dogs and other items from the menu. Â The Bar Mgr has welcomed us with open arms.. we are not demanding and there is usually about 31 of us in the group...
Review Source:A friendly bar atmosphere especially if you get to know the regular patrons. Â It seems to cater to an older set and as long as you know that, this place is warm with good conversation.
I met some very interesting folk with great stories and I could stay here and listen to the stories for hours.
I was charged over $250 for canceling brunch. Yes you heard me right over $250 for brunch. No notice, I even asked while canceling if there was a charge, the answer was no... and yet a $250 charge that the manager told me is my just deserts for canceling and causing him to loose money. Nevermind that I canceled because some in our party were sick with flu like symptoms, I seriously doubt it is swine flu, but still I wasn't going to chance it and expose others... none-the-less... did I mention that I asked about a charge and after they told me no they still charged me over $250, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

If you are into the geriatric set, after work construction guys or local yokels, this is the bar for you. I would honestly consider renting this place out for a party - it has an interesting vibe - so much so I want to say they tried to redo it a few yers ago and give it a shipwreck name, that failed, as did the whole trendy pirate thing...but dont tell my husband cause I still have a thing for that quasi homo Jack Sparrow
At least they have Stoli Elit......which balances out the denture to boob job ratio with my vodka goggles on
