I went to Lost Roo this morning while visiting Long Beach. We came in at about 11:25 and they had the doors open and ready to go even though they didn't open until 11:30.
We were greeted by some very friendly staff members and seated right away. I asked for an order of tots and ranch to start and it was on the table about 3 minutes later. They were crispy and tasty! The ranch tasted home made, and was VERY good. I only wish it came with a slightly larger portion of ranch.
For the main course I ordered the Smoked Steelhead Salmon Mac n Cheese, and my girlfriend ordered up the daily deal which was Halibut and chips (though she subbed fries for tots)
Again, our food was ready and on the table in what felt like maybe 10 minutes. Granted, there were only a couple of other guests, that's still some mighty quick food!
The salmon mac was awesome! Very rich and very tasty. It was topped with what looked like panko crumbs to give it a nice crunch, but it wasn't overbearing. The salmon was great, but it felt like it was sort of mostly piled up in the middle instead of spread throughout the dish. Still, no real complaints with that. I enjoyed it very much and would absolutely get it again.
The halibut was crispy and tasty as well, but it wasn't anything too terribly fancy. It came with a lemon wedge and some tasty tartar. Again, the tartar tasted somewhat home made.
Our server was awesome! I don't recall her name but she did a great job. She was there to fill up water, check up on us and get us our check quickly and often, but without being too pushy or bothersome. She was friendly and did everything just right!
Overall, my experience was fantastic and I'd recommend Lost Roo to any of my friends or anyone looking for a satisfying meal in Long Beach.
Nothing to write home about. Â
I had a burger. Â It was edible. Â
Atmosphere is not great, food is meh, overpriced.
I'm not much of a brewery/restaurant fan in general, and this conforms to my experience with them in general.
It's kind of sad when you go to a small coastal town and the restaurants could be in any mall in america.
This place was AWESOME! Â We came here on the recommendation of the visitors bureau, looking for great fish & chips. Â The service was attentive, and the food was great! Â The batter was crisp, and the fish was flaky and moist. Â Will definitely come back again on our next trip to Longbeach.
Review Source:This place serves incredible food. I ordered pulled pork tacos with a fresh mango salsa. I wish I lived closer so I could eat them every day!
I also had a bite off my friends plate. Their pasta which was creamy and delicious!
The restaurant had a great feel to it, the waitress was lovely. Cant wait to get out to long beach again!
Friendly service. Â Lots of great beer options. Â Great outside seating area. Â Large enough that I can't see it being hard to just show up and get a table. Â They got a large menu, mostly focused on pub food with Aussie influences. Â The nachos were fantastic. Â I loved the beer and bacon dip. Â Totally recommend for a casual, no fuss place to eat.
Review Source:When we walked in I have to honest and say we were a little turned off as it looked very "chain restaurant-ish". With that said I am happy to report we were wrong!! Â This place was DELISH!! Â We shared the Dungeness crab & artichoke quesadilla as an appetizer and it was FAB!! Â I have the flat iron steak...OMG... Melted in my mouth. Â My husband had the meatloaf with the siracha ketchup and it was SO good too!! Â The best part of the meal was the Guinness gravy- to die for!! Â
Don't be turned off by the commercial feel... Give the food a chance!!
OK - so my husband and I like to think of ourselves as "wannabe foodies" so we are always on the lookout for good places to eat. Â We tried another Long Beach restaurant the night before and was blown away but . . . I have to say the Lost Roo came out swinging for the number 1 spot! Â
Their smoked salmon macaroni and cheese is to die for. Â I tend to shy away from such things since the salmon can seem a bit overpowering but . . . not in this case. Â Every bite was just smooth and creamy and had your mouth begging for more.
We also tried the crab and artichoke Quesadillas -- another home run. Â My husband had the Cioppino - he couldn't stop raving about the shrimp and the broth; one word - YUMMY!
If you're in their neck of the woods and want to experience a busy family restaurant/sports-bar atmosphere, this is definitely the place to go; especially since the food is soooooo good and the service isn't bad. Â We are definitely going back the next time we are in Long Beach.
I've been to The Roo twice now and it's an okay place. The food is decent/good. Their service is the same. I can't remember what exactly is in their beef burgers, but the flavor is different, like the meat is mixed with something else. They have a nice selection of seasonal beers as well. Their cocktails and martinis are overpriced, but that's typical of most restaurants. The place feels kind of odd to me - an Oz place in the middle of Long Beach. It seems out of place, but the decor and vibe are still fun.
Review Source:Note this review is written on 3/31/13 for a 3/17/13 visit.
We came in for a late evening visit 8PM or so and hoping for not a crazy over the top scene since it was St. Patrick's Day. Not at problem at all and clearly one of the bigger, modern looking dining establishments in the area.
Greeted warmly and seated immediately upon arrival. I liked the interior decor and this place obviously can handle larger groups in the bar or dining areas. Both places were fairly full when we were seated.
There is a wide selection on their menu - something to please everyone. We ordered the amber ale steamers, fisherman's chowder, dinner salad, dungeness crab melt w/ salad, and the smoked salmon mac and cheese. Everything was spot on delicious!
An excellent find and highly recommended!
A breath of fresh air in an otherwise stale selection of eating establishments in the Long Beach/Ilwaco area. The Lost Roo is clean and well-appointed, with staff that make you feel welcome. For lunch I ordered the carnitas which came with a tasty pineapple-based salsa. My wife enjoyed the Portabello burger - topped with grilled veggies and stringy cheese. We need to go back again and try more of their menu items.
Review Source:After 2 unsuccessful hours of razor clam digging, my date and I decided to find a place to warm up and grab dinner. There aren't a lot of restaurants to choose from so he chose Lost Roo.
We started off with drinks to warm us up: He had the buttered rum (very delicious!) while I had the French Cocoa which was also good but way stronger than the rum drink. A couple sips in, I was already feeling tipsy since I was running on an empty stomach.
Now, if you love chicken wings and sriracha as much as I do, you must order their chili rubbed hot wings! These fried crisp wings are coated with a sriracha chili sauce and served with bleu cheese and celery sticks on the side. The sauce has the perfect balance of spicy and sweetness.
Besides the wings, my date and I were very happy with everything we ordered. Since we were unable to dig up any razor clams, my date had to order the special of the night: fried razor clams with Thai fries. You can't really go wrong with fried razor clams but the Thai fries were the highlight of this dish. I haven't had anything like this before the Lost Roo. Â It seems like they tossed crispy shoestring fries in some fish sauce and it had hints of lemongrass to it. It also came with some sort of sriracha dipping sauce that went well with the fries.
I ended up getting the smoked salmon mac n cheese Jack cheese that had a hint of sriracha. Great comfort food! This dish was generous with the salmon and it's definitely a meal that can be shared.
Am I a fan of this place? Yup, of course.
Firstly, let it be known that if the theme is Australian based, I'm going to visit. Â We were in town for the forth of July week, all the way from Hiawassee, GA. Â When my wife and I took a stroll through town, the Kangaroos caught my eye. Instantly I was drawn in to the Down Under feel of the place and knew that I would be having dinner there on that very night.
My parents, myself and my beautiful wife all made the trip in for dinner that evening. I had the lamb burger, with garlic tots. It was so tender and juicy, I loved every bite. My wife had the Dungeness Crab melt, which was also extremely good. I know because I was stealing bites when she wasn't looking.
Like I said, I love all things Australian, so I had to have some souvenirs. The Goose point Oyster shooter was a must, I had to have that shot glass. I ordered one for both my wife and myself. I'll be honest, she isn't a raw oyster type of girl, so she took a sniff and passed. I downed them both. they were great and I took home two awesome shot glasses. Â Also, picked up a Lost Roo hoodie, which I am currently wearing in my profile pic.
Overall, a great experience. If we ever make it back out to Long Beach, I will make sure to stop by again.
After a long day at the beach we were hungry and Lost Roo looked like a nice place to go. Â We figured it would be similar to Outback Steakhouse, but were disappointed to find mostly appetizer type foods and sanwiches on the menu. Â We ordered a $21 sirloin and a $19 skirt steak, and a $4 kids mac and cheese. Â While waiting for the food, I saw the waitress get a lemon to put in someone's iced tea with her hands. Â
When the food came we were disappointed to see how small the portions were for the price. Â Each steak came with some mashed potatoes and 3 small spears of asparagus. Â The kids meal did not include a drink or anything else besides the mac and cheese but I was told I could add some apples for $.50. Â No thanks. Â The food over all tasted good and was cooked as ordered (the sirloin steak was very fatty). Â
We had eaten outside on the deck which was very nice. Â When we were finished, I noticed that my daughter had a ton of cheerios in the bottom of her high chair cover. Â Instead of dumping them on the floor, I took the high chair cover and shook it out over the deck railing. Â Then someone who worked there tried to stop me, and making a huge deal out of it proceeded to tell me how you should never put food on the ground outside a restaurant and that they would have problems with rodents and birds. Â I told him I was sorry and was trying to do what I thought was better by not putting them all over the ground. Â It was so embarassing. Â That was the last straw and we will never go back to or recommend this place. Â So disappointed.
Once again, pleasantly astonished by the quality of the food here. Â I was told the chicken wings were a must-have, so after waiting for a friend who promised to go with me and then never showed - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE - LAURA - I went with hubby today for lunch. Â They open at 11:30 a.m. Â THE WINGS ARE CRAZY-GOOD!!!! Â Chunks of garlicky red sauce that has like a pineapple note in there and perhaps some tarragon? Â Asian-ey flavored but bigger if that's possible. Â I love. these. wings.
Review Source:On a day trip to Long Beach we decided to try this restaurant for lunch. Â A definite hit. Â I had the Ahi sandwich and loved it - yes sometimes I do like the food. Â LOL Â It was delicious and looked great as a presentation in the tin pan serving plates. Â The tater tots were crispy and also tasted good. The rest of our table also enjoyed their food.
We ate outside on the nice deck in the warm sun (yes 70 degrees - my perfect summer weather) and enjoyed the breeze and good company. Â Â Our server was attentive and did an excellent job.
The decor is interesting and different (all Aussie). Â It seems I also tend to rate bathrooms LOL but the men's is fun. Â You have to try it to understand (OK probably 14 year old teen boy fun) - also any bathroom that has a big New York City poster is a winner in my opinion. Â Apparently the ladies isn't as neat (cool).
I would definitely come back.
I am sad we didn't try this place sooner.. We stayed in long beach for three nights and every meal out here left much to be desired.. The only thing that I was left desiring at the end of my meal here was more room in my belly.. The Cajun fries were amazing and steak salad was delish.. My husband got fish tacos and though messy he was a happy camper. Our waitress was attentive and knowledgable as well as willing to accommodate our dining needs.
Review Source:I have been here a few times when I've visited Long Beach, and I have enjoyed it every time. Recently, I got the prime rib dip with tater tots. The sandwich was great and it had a lot of meat on it, and the bread held up well when dipped in Au Jus. The tots had a little just-came-out-from-under-the-heat-lamp taste to them, but they are freaking tater tots, so no biggie.
There is a sweet sports bar in the Lost Roo, which I think would be the place to be every Sunday in the fall if you lived in Long Beach.
This place is not a dive, it's a well-kept restaurant (and bar) that seems to be thriving despite the economy. Let's hope the locals and tourists support it, so it can stay open. Overall, it's a great place for Long Beach, and the food is pretty good. You can count on it.
"mmmm...Big piece of crab!" Â We thoroughly enjoyed the Dungeness Crab & Artichoke Quesadilla. And the Chowder. A bowl of that and the quesadilla is a well portioned meal for two people (see photo).
My initial assumption is that the cooks do a good job; everything was tasty.  But you'll be disappointed if you're looking for Aussie inspired food or regional seafood  or meat.  The menu is slew of burgers, sandwiches, and soups and salads. We were told that the meat and the prawns were shipped in.  The crab is local (regional) so we took advantage of that.
I'd come back and I would have the crab melt.
We had our Anniversary dinner at the Lost Roo, you couldn't tell from the outside that it was a sports bar. They have a huge family dining area, but we sat in the bar area. It was comfy and the food was Excellent! Both my husband and I give it 5 stars... nothing to complain about! We tried the Spire Mountain draft Pear Cider which was so good and refreshing, people around us were trying it too and loved it! They were very busy, but service was excellent and friendly. Tends to be on the loud side, especially because of the super tall ceilings but it wasn't crazy loud. We didn't have any trouble hearing one another. We'll go back when ever we are in Long Beach!
Review Source:After a hard day of doing nothing and casual biking while on vacation, the idea of stick to your ribs food sounded like it would hit the spot.  A quick yelp search pulled up Lost Roo, and though not familiar with the name, the taste of the food  after eating here could easily be listed as commercial.
Walking in, the place was clean, the service was friendly, and we were sat promptly near the bar. Â There was a special offered that night served on a trash can-sized plate consisting of ribs, chicken, sausage, and a slew of sides(cole slaw, corn bread, fries, cranberry butter, and beans). Â For those who have been to Famous Dave's, this plate was very similar to a dish offered on their menu, Â and the taste could be described in similar fashion. Â The food was cooked well, but I couldn't shake the feeling that none of it was spectacular and very average. Â After having tried everything on the plate, there was not much enticing me to go from being satisfied to stuffing myself full.
For the price and the nice service, I can't  say it was a bad experience, but as far as the food goes,  the memory wasn't a lasting one.
Food: 3/5
Service: 5/5
Decor: 3/5
Fun Fact: the urinals have a soccer game or football game to....ahem...help with accuracy?
This is my first Yelp review but I felt compelled to tell anyone with a pallet...STAY AWAY! It's the local small town equivalent to an Applebee's, or possibly worse. I had the fish & chips & they tasted of nothing but oil. I even saw the oils dripping drop the pices of fish as I tried to eat the messy, crumbly, bland pieces of battered yuck.
The accompanying slaw was dreadful in flavor... What am I saying, there was no flavor!
My boyfriend had the fish tacos, which had the same battered fish as the fish & chips. It's only redemption was its mediocre pineapple salsa.
Our $42 tab was not worth the brick in our guts.
On the up side, the staff was very pleasant.
We had a great experience at the Lost Roo. After arriving later in the evening in Long Beach, we relied on Yelp to direct us to a good dinner. We noticed the positive reviews and mentions of a good beer selection, so we set out. It was not a disappointment!
Our food was exceptional. I ordered the prime rib French dip, and it was probably the best I've had. Typically, French dips feature chewy and/or stringy meat, but this was tender and moist. The au jus was flavorful without being overly oily. My husband had the really amazing meal, though - the salmon mac n cheese. This was incredible!! It featured plenty of chunks of smoked salmon in a creamy, spicy sauce, thanks Sriracha, a magical sauce indeed. I actually considered asking for their recipe because I would love to be able to re-create this at home!
And, the reviews were right - the beer selection was pretty decent. There was quite a variety of beers on tap, with several microbrews.
They had some amazing dessert selections on the menu and on special, but we were so stuffed from the huge portions. I imagine they were as good as they sounded!
And, to cap it all off, the service was friendly and efficient. Our server, Sueann, took good care of us, and we never felt unattended.
I will definitely visit the Lost Roo again on a return trip to the area.
OMG, YUMMY...
Thom & I have been to "The Outback Steak House" (Can I Mention another Place in a Riview?)... Anyway... If the Lost Roo was a National Chain, Lets Just Say "Outback" would NOT Be around.
FRIENDLY PEOPLE, AWESOME FOOD & GREAT DECOR. When we Visit Long Beach Again, the Lost Roo is On our "To Visit" List...
We liked Lost Roo.
We're not an easy bunch, my family and I.
Our recent mid-week family vacation to the Long Beach Peninsula was filled with twists and turns along the way.
We found that food is expensive there and that for the most part, food kinda sucked.
But here was Lost Roo. It was like an oasis.
By far the largest and cleanest dining establishment we came across during our entire trip, it had a funny interior that looked like a Red Robin had an affair with Outback Steak House and out came a Lost Roo.
This might turn some of you more spoiled, persnickety, refined palate diners off.
I'm totally open minded and this was a good choice for us. The kids found food items they totally dug. My uber talented wife and I found dishes that were decent.
The tots were rockin. If you are a Tot aficionado I suggest you give these a whirl.
The beer was cold (good selection on tap, including Ninkasi, YUM).
The staff was very lovely, attentive, & personable. Our server was good with the kids, respecting our 8 year old girl and patient with our non-verbal 6 year old boy (who has Autism). We're not an easy bunch if you're kid-phobic or quick to judge. Kudos to the staff!
Decent steak salad. All of the food looked pretty good. Â Most of the food has been decent, in long beach, but this was by far better than the average burger and fish/chips joints that line the main drag.
Nearly every table was full - they definitely carved out an under served niche in this tiny town.
My steak ordered medium was cooked rare and raw 1/2" thick in the middle. Â Add to this no hint of the chili-coffee rub what seduced me in the first place. Â I rarely send dishes back, but here I did. Â I expected an apologetic reaction from the manager --after all, the rawness of the food has little to do with my own persnicketiness-- but he was reluctant and standoffish and missed the opportunity to truly make it right beyond taking it off the bill. Â
My catastrophe notwithstanding, my companions had little better with their substandard pub fare: soggy nachos, dry burger, slapdash crab salad. Â We also felt that they were woefully unprepared for children, with few kids dishes and no activity menu. Â
Several locals recommended this, but our experience was resoundingly unacceptable.
After a day walking the beach, and watching the Loyality Parade in Long Beach , the Lost Roo was just the place to grab a bite.  Always on the look-out for veggie items while traveling, the Lost Roo offered a great array of  non-meat choices,  (I had the Caprese Bagguette), along with burgers and seafood for all to enjoy! Choose  the tater tots if you have the option they are crisp and done perfect. Many options for the perfect beer, including a new coconut ale which well, was toooo much coconut for me so I stuck with a nice porter.
The seating in the bar was nicely done with bar stools, round tables and boomerang bars to sit around.  The attention to detail in the décor was casual, but done with class.  The servers, five star rating for sure!  Smiles on everyone's face, and friendly, attentive service.  Outdoor patio (enclosed if windy) is available and sports on three different stations.  Both bar and regular seating available. They can accommodate larger gatherings, so  don't hesitate to bring in a group of friends.
This is a great new resturant in Long Beach. I was in town for Presidents Day weekend with some friends and we all went here on Friday night for dinner. There were 7 of us all together but we had not problem being seated. The place is huge! It's filled with all sorts of Australian and kangaroo stuff. It's sorta like a hometown Outback but way better.
I forget the name of the hamburger but it had roasted apples and gorgonzola on it. You have the option of either fries or tots AND you can get them with garlic. Garlic tots! Who would have thunk?
The service was fast and friendly despite it being very busy. As big as it was the place was nearly packed. Our waitress split up the checks without even asking, who ever does that for you? There's a big bar area up in the front with TVs around. It would be a great place to catch a game.
My wife and I were looking for a different restaurant but our nav wasn't helping us out. So on a whim we stopped here. Â When we pulled in to the parking lot it was full (in the middle of the week) so we took that as a good sign. It didn't disappoint! Â It had some of the usual bar type foods but it had a very unique menu at the same time. I had the lamb burger that came with goat cheese, grilled onion and mint jelly, tomato and lettuce on a soft Kaiser roll. Â I almost ordered a second because it was that good.
The server was very helpful and the service was great. We will definitely make our way back here and you should too!
We looked at this as an option since we have ate everywhere else in Long Beach in the past 10 years, and most of the places we have ate at are either not around or the food is just simply not up to par.
We had a 5 minute wait or so until we were seated in a booth.
The server, Heather, greeted us fairly soon after to get our drink order.
Our food arrived promptly fresh and hot from the kitchen.
I had the Blue & 'Roo Burger w tots and we also had the FlatI ron Chimichurri and the kids had grilled cheese..
The kitchen did give us fries instead of tots w one of the grilled cheeses but that was quickly fixed w  trip to the kitchen.
We will be back, kid friendly w great prices.
Went there on a Monday night. Parking lot was empty. Closed.
Tried again on Tuesday. Same story, apparently they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
Went there on Wednesday, and they were open and packed!
The food was good. Fresh, vibrant flavors. Tasty seafood stew with lots of fish in it. Fish tacos were pretty good too. Good beer selection as well.
The only complaint I have (and it is a BIG one) is the time it took to get our entrees. I didn't time it exactly, but it must have been well over an hour. Â Our waitress was very nice and kept apologizing, but there was nothing she could do to speed up the kitchen. I mean, it felt like Hell's Kitchen on TV, when the inexperienced cooks take hours to serve their first table. I expected to hear Gordon Ramsey shout "Shut it down!"
I'm sure they often are busy, judging by how popular the place looked, I am surprised that they are not better able to deal with that many people.
2.5 stars.
Great new restaurant in Long Beach. We ate there a few weeks ago and the place was packed. All of the food my party had was delicious. I don't remember what everyone else got, but I had the rockfish tacos and they were delicious.
The prices are VERY reasonable, they're trying to make it a place for the locals, in contrast to all of the overpriced stuff aimed at the tourists. They have tons of seating for large groups, and the kids menu looks really tasty too. They also have a large drink selection, both beer and wine and mixed drinks.
