Ambiance - not great... dingy little pub. Â We came in for lunch on a sleepy Saturday afternoon. Â Nothing new, exciting or inviting about this place.
But the food!!!
Food - Excellent! Â We were shocked when we ordered the wings (they have 16 different types!) and bleu cheese burgers that the kitchen could produce delicious food, but it did!
Axman and boydadactyl wings are amazing. The wings are diesel sized and rival a normal sized drumstick at most places serving then as "chicken"
Axman may be some of the best dry rubbed wings around the area too.
35 cent wings on Mondays, good beer, fun crowd from all over... definitely with it over and over.
Went back again recently.......shorter review this time.
Decor: It's fine for a place to get a few beers and grub.
Food: Still really poor. Not sure how people give these wings high remarks. Their standards must be pretty low. Burger was pretty good. Wouldn't try the Steak and Cheese again if it was free.
Beer: Good selection on tap. One was flat. They replaced it with another kind though.
Service: Friendly enough, but still just pretty awful. There is NO care, training, awareness, etc....
Price: Expensive for what you really get, but this is just how pricing is in Redding/Weston/Wilton area.
I go sparingly to this place.......wish they cared just a little bit more, because it has a captive audience and could be packed all the time- look at Little Pub, for instance.
I have officially switched my night at the Lumberyard from Monday's to Tuesdays because I do not want to deal with over priced, mediocre wings. Â On Tuesday they have trivia night and I enjoy to go with my friends after a long day at work. Â The drinks are usually on the higher side, but this is Fairfield County so no real complaint there. Â They have half-priced burgers, which are decent for a pub. Â I find myself usually building a burger because I do not like their selection and they have no substitutions on Tuesdays. Â
As for the trivia, it is RIDICULOUSLY hard. No one ever scores high, and I have only won for team name or tie breaker. Â I thought this may be because I am young but after being on a team with some more mature individuals, we have all struggled alike. Â The woman who runs the trivia is super friendly, goes around and helps people out and it considerate is someone does not hear a question, so two thumbs up for her. Â
Anyways, the Lumberyard's not terrible, but I much prefer the Little Pub up the road for a pub ambiance and better food.
This place looks like its been around for ages and might have actually been a sawmill at some point. Â Local hole in the wall that happens to have awesome wings. Â Been here three times now and service has always been friendly. Â Great selection of beers and lots of tvs for sports. Â Haven't tried too many other things on the menu yet (did I mention the wings are awesome?) but definitely like the laid back vibe of the place.
Review Source:Horrible. The place feels like an uncomfortable bowel movement with no toilet in sight. Food is good but use sparingly. Good beer but if it's remotely busy get ready for lessons in waiting. Overall, Every place within 5 miles of this eternally rotten outhouse would be better. Even if those places were on fire and you were inside.
If you ever can't get a drink on time, remember there is a massive amount of car-tending outside, so you can walk away with no tab quite often. But throw the bartenders some cash at least, it's not their fault the place is what is it is.
If you like getting fall down, cross eyed, unable to make words come out even resembling words drunk, this place will get you there, just not in a timely fashion.
Go to bethel, the roadhouse, lil pub, la piazza, bistro 7, b&g on 7, anywhere in downtown ridgefield. Save your money and time, you'll be much happier elsewhere.
Because I live close to this bar, I wish I could say I liked this place. Sadly, not so. The first (and only) time I ever came here, I (and the other woman I was with) was completely alienated by the waitress as soon as we sat down. Her blatant pandering to the men at the the table was truly insulting. Not sure who she was trying to impress, considering I was planning on paying the bill.
After we gave our drink order, which arrived in a timely fashion, we proceeded to order our meals. I have very serious food allergies which requires me to ask questions about the ingredients of the food. Although the waitress did answer questions (and ask the cook if she did not know the answer), she seemed rushed to get our orders in. As I could eat almost nothing, I decided on the chili. When we received our food (also in a generally timely fashion, delivered by a high-school age boy who looked like he was bored out of his mind), I was not impressed. The chili wasn't bad, but it was nothing out of the ordinary.
On my way to the bathroom, I did find out why our waitress was so rushed to take our order. I was met with the lovely site of our waitress making out with her supposed boyfriend in the kitchen, further disgusting me at the behavior of this woman.
Even though the food came out quickly, the quality of the food coupled with the quality of the wait staff makes it safe to say I will avoid ever coming here again.
If you love sports and you love wings, then this is your place. The food is okay, but the service and the quantity of food has been spotty. My husband once ordered a chicken sandwich and the piece of chicken was so small it was laughable. I have also ordered salads in which key ingredients were missing. Not sure what is going on in that kitchen. That said the food was always fresh and yummy. Not my favorite place but in a pinch it'll do.
Review Source:The wings here are the best I've had in Connecticut! The atmosphere however, especially on Monday nights, leaves a lot to be desired. Service is generally pretty good considering what the staff has to deal with: the inebriated "bro" crowd, splitting checks for large parties, etc.,
Anyway, try the wings. You won't regret it!
I have actually been pleasantly surprised by this place both times I have been. It is the perfect spot if you don't feel like dealing with the SoNo crowds and parking situation.
It hasn't been empty but at the same time I haven't had problems getting a seat at the bar. Bartenders are friendly and attentive and when my friends and I all ordered Blue Moons he suggested a pitcher rather than 3 individual pints. For $15 we each got a bout 1.5 drinks so it's a good value.
They need to do something about their entertainment though - on a recent Saturday night the band that started playing around 9PM was a bunch of 12-15 year olds trying to play Nirvana. Terrible. We were on our way out soon anyways but hearing them definitely sped up our departure a little.
Overall a solid spot though. Someday I'd like to try the food, I hear the burgers are good.
This is truly a local place.
I go out of my way when I'm home in Westport to come here. They've got Monday Night Football, and crazily underpriced wings. I can't speak for any other night but Monday..
There are many flavors to choose from, and of course there are rules to ordering, but it is all well worth it. Especially during the summer, they sell out of wings well before closing time. For .35 cents each, you can't go wrong. Be aware that they do charge you for ranch/celery/blue cheese. Especially when you have someone as wildly entertaining as Maggie serving you. She's a spit fire and you'll love her! She runs around like a mad woman.
For the beer drinkers, there's a lot of classics on tap in addition to a good amount of seasonal beers.
Seriously, Monday's are the best. Main waitress Maggie is always running around like a mad woman cracking jokes and laughing. She's a character and wildly entertaining.
Don't expect to immediately get seated at 8pm on a Monday in a big group. Definitely call ahead.
This is really a bar with several TVs tunes to sporting events. Â At best the food is so-so. Â We have been there twice before writing the review. Â The first our opinion was split, one thought the food was good the other said so-so. Â The service was fine the first time.
The second visit had both of us agreeing - never again. Â Lousy food and terrible service. Â When the food was served we asked for some mustard to put on the sandwich. Â It arrived 10 minutes later. Â The place was not crowded so there was no excuse.
You can get a good pint and see beautiful women (behind the bar only on most nights). Â Decent food, good Guinness pints - not mini pints like Molly Darcy's in Danbury. Â A healthy pour and free peanuts. Â Great place to watch a game many HDTV's. More room than the lil' pub or the shoebox round the corner. Seriously the only gripe I have is that it is a sausage fest almost every night!
Review Source:These kids today have it made. Â It would have been nice to have a bar like this when I lived in Redding. Â There's a nice selection of beer on tap and some pretty good pub food. Â Also, there are TVs if you want to watch the game. Â My only complaint is it seemed overrun with parents with their little children. Â All in all, a nice addition to the other bars on Main St.
