The rudest staff ever. We came here with reservations for a bachelorette party and the hostess and staff were not accommodating upon arrival and did not have a place for us to sit. When we did find a place to sit they took chairs from people in our party. This was suppose to be a pleasant experience and they were not friendly at all.
Review Source:Macari was the first stop on our vineyard tour and it was the perfect way to start the day. The grounds were beautiful and the vineyard staff was wonderful. We came as part of a tour and the Macari staff had a table set up for us upon arrival to do our tasting in private away from the main bar. After the tasting, we bought a few bottles to enjoy on the porch overlooking the grounds. Really great vineyard!
Review Source:I went here in May 2013. This place is quite nice inside and has a nice bar area for your tasting though bar stools would have been appreciated. I think the star of this place is the grounds and picnic area where you have a spectacular view of the vineyards and could just lounge about and sip your wine.
I had the Estate flight which super affordable for $6 . The Collina chardonnay was great on the first sip but on second sip it was just ok. I liked the Early wine which was chardonnay in a steel cask. And I also liked the rose and the cabernet franc. Â I didnt like the Collina merlot though.
The staff was awesome and knowledgeable. Â And it was nice that they handed out a complementary wine sorbet. I would definitely come here again because I liked the majority of the wines I sampled. Â Another tasting, a bottle of wine and a picnic on the grounds would make a perfect day.
Great place! Me and my girlfriend took a drive out this afternoon. Had a tough time finding the entrance at first but once we found it, the place was fantastic. We had a very friendly, knowledgeable bartender who poured us wines from the reasonably-priced "Vintage Flight." I actually ended up buying their awesome red blend, "Dos Aguas," and she bought their 2010 Chardonnay Reserve. We then enjoyed some delicious olive crackers and goat cheese w/ garlic and olive oil. Keep up the good work, Macari!
Review Source:Second stop on our wine tour of Long Island. My boyfriend said he definitely wanted to stop by here, due to all the positive reviews, and I can see why. The grounds is absolute gorgeous. The tasting area is pretty large, and you can see the wine "factory" behind the bar. They have 3 flight options for tastings: their estate flight ($6 for 4 wines), their cuvee flight ($10 for 4), and their vintage ($15 for 5). The estate flight has 2 whites, a rose, and a red; the cuvee: 1 white, 2 reds, and 1 dessert; and the vintage: 2 whites, 3 reds. Being more of a white drinker, I opted for the estate, whereas my boyfriend went for the cuvee.
Their wine is pretty good, but nothing terribly special. We both immensely enjoyed the dessert wine, which was super sweet, and very similar to ice wine. The server was very informative about each wine.
The Macari Vineyard grounds are large, with a decently sized shopping area near the front of the establishment and the tasting in the back. There is usually a large crowd here, but I ask myself why as I found their wines to be only mediocre for my palate. The best part of the wine flight is the cool video of Macari making wine, that is shown above the wine bar.
Review Source:The setting here is very pretty. Â Unfortunately we were here on a rainy day, so we didn't get to enjoy the view. Â We did enjoy the wines. Â I'll say that everything we tried *except* their cheapest chard wasn't bad. Â That chard, though...ugh. Â We are not fans of the oak monsters. Â Their reserve chard was 10 times better in our opinion. Â They also sell glasses and decanters and have food. Â I'd go back again.
Review Source:Too. Many. Party. Buses. Â
Ridiculous amount of large groups of drunken morons. Â The pluses? Â Huge room and knowledgeable and attentive tasting servers. Â The minuses? Â Said party buses and morons. Â Wine that is way too sour and amateur tasting for my palate.
This vineyard is pretty and good for groups but definitely not a "must do" on my list.
The Dos Aguas is one of my favorite bottles out east. It is a perfect compliment to some cheese and also if you bring it home, it goes great with whatever you want to grill.
The location is huge with plenty of space to sit and a long tasting bar. Â The back drop is the bottling kettles. It's really nice and usually attracts big groups.
The drawback our group had was their food policy. Â They did not allow outside food within the tasting room. They had some picnic tables outside but it was too chilly. I can't stay away from the Dos Aguas so I'll be back soon.
Our third stop on our Fall winery adventure.
Huge tasting room that was decorated beautifully in fall colors. Â The server was attentive and explained each wine we ordered. Â He even brought out some cheese for us to try before purchasing. Â
We were able to enjoy our wine on the large deck outside, soaking up the sunny fall day.
Will definately come back here agin.
This is by far, my favorite winery on the north fork. Â The wines are all really delicious, and even the less expensive bottles still have great flavor. Â Some of my favorites are the rose, dos aguas, and the riesling. The staff does an excellent job of handling the larger crowds that come during the summer/fall season, and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be served. Â It's also very nice to go during the quiet season and relax in the back room, while looking out at the beautiful view. Â
I would highly recommend this vineyard to both friends and family. Â They have an awesome selection of cheeses and meats, which are way better than the offerings I've seen at other nearby vineyards. Â The staff is super nice and knowledgeable and there is one especially cute employee who is always in good spirits and clearly enjoying his job, I've even heard him sing along to the good tunes playing! Â It's definitely the place to go for a unique and enjoyable experience!
Macari was our last stop of the day and as per my 3-stars, it was A-ok. Â It's actually a very large and lovely vineyard, but in comparison to the many others that I have visited, i can't say that it is a favorite. Â My group did a tasting at the bar in the back and we had 1 server but could have probably done with 1 more person allocated to us. Â There was plenty of seating available but as I mentioned, we were standing? Â It just felt a bit rushed but I must say the front bar was quite busy. Â Their wines are lovely and I went home with 2-bottles which I felt were priced at a great value. Â
I would refer it and would also return, but check out my other reviews for vineyards that I consider favorites.
Beautiful grounds and tasting room....Good wine. Â Hard to the palate was the young blonde staff which was acidic and fermented in personality. Â Not a smile, when asked if any available tours, Â she pointed with a snarl to the video screen above. Â Could have enjoyed a glass of their deep rich bold wine, Â instead left with a bitter musty sour taste. Â Three stars for location.
Review Source:Second stop of the day on our wine tour. Â The tasting room was HUGE! Â So spacious and there was no wait for tastings. Â We were a group of twelve girls coming on a party bus and the tour guide directed us right to the bar and ensured we would be taken care of which we definitely were. Â The man doing our tastings was extremely friendly funny and patient. Â He explained each wine to us and allowed us to take our time. Â None of else felt rushed, he even poured an extra little taste to the birthday girl. Â He had a great sense of humor which made the overall experience that much better. Â We stopped to have lunch at this vineyard so I bought two bottles of the Chardonnay and two of the Cabernet Franc. Â The Cab Franc was OK, Chardonnay much better. Â The wines were reasonably priced. Â The outdoor seating area was perfect for lunch. Â Tons of room and the picnic tables were set right in the fields by all the vines which was just beautiful. Â The ONLY reason why I didn't give this vineyard five stars was because after purchasing four bottles of wine, I asked for glassware that we could take outside with us to use for the wine during our lunch. Â The lady behind the counter proceeded to give me what looked like plastic drinking cups from a bathroom that you gargle water with after brushing your teeth. Â I gave the woman a look like, you've got to be kidding. Â I just spent over $100 on wine and you can't even give us three wine glasses? Â The rest of the group still had their glasses from the tasting, but there were three of us that needed glasses. Â She refused to give us glassware even though plenty of people were using the Macari wine glasses outside. Â I had to go to the other side of the tasting room and grab the attention of another worker. Â I explained to him that I had just purchased a great deal of wine from their vineyard and that we would like three wine glasses to take outside. Â He helped us out and gave us the glassware no problem. Â
Definitely recommend this place, make it your stop for lunch, the entire estate is gorgeous!
Not a bad mid-day stop.
Stopped here after apple picking, and it was a nice detour. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the wine is OK. If your out at the vineyards for the day, and are looking for a relaxing spot to stop, this is the place.
There is a great indoor seating area for you and your friends to enjoy the wine. They also have a very small, but interesting selection of artisan cheeses, cured meats and jams that you can buy to enjoy with the wine.
If the wine gets a little better, this place has the potential to be a home run!
Our first stop of the vineyard tours. It was $7 per person to try 4 different types of wine. The staff was really nice and spent his time explaining each of the wine as we were tasting. He also was being pretty honest about which wine he thought was better than the other. Â My friends and I ended up buying one bottle we all liked in the end and started drinking by the beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the vineyard. Â The best part was that there weren't that many people so it was really relaxing.
Review Source:Awesome wine, perfect location and ambiance, and the service is great. Â Considering the size of this vineyard one would think at least one of these branches of a good business would suffer but not at Macari.
I'm all about the sauvignon blanc but really everything from the basics to the dessert wine are delicious. Â Good looking service doesn't hurt either ;)
We went to Macari Vineyards yesterday. It was about 4pm so it was pretty empty, but we had a nice time. Three of us did a wine tasting inside while the rest of our group sat on the back porch with a glass of wine (we joined them afterwards). We were the only ones at the tables, and we had a nice view of the vineyards. You can bring food to the picnic area.
Inside, there were several other groups tasting wines. The sommelier was fantastic--knowledgable and friendly and even threw in a few wines that were not on the list. The Red Flight option my husband and I chose included Collina Merlot, Sette, 08 Cabernet Franc, 08 Merlot Estate, and 08 Dos Aguas. We ended up buying a bottle of 2005 Macari Merlot Reserve (one of the extras he threw in) and a bottle of Cabernet Franc.
I'm pretty patient, but the staff ignored my party nearly the entire time we were here. We had just started a flight when our first server left and asked a second server to take over with us. He stuck around for the second and then vanished. We stood there waiting for the third pour with empty glasses for 10 minutes before someone finally noticed we were there. They never refreshed our glasses, we had a different but equally disinterested server each time, and we spent 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention just to pay. I was on the verge of walking out without paying. On top of all this we had to listen to the staff complain about each other and the costumers the entire time they were ignoring us. Â Needless to say, I will not be back.
Review Source:My family went to the vineyards yesterday for Mother's Day. My mom really wanted to go to Martha Clara but it was way too crowded so we passed by Macari and thought it looked nice. We turned around and were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the property was. They have beautiful flowers around their building that gave an overwhelming beautiful lavender scent. There was a wrap around porch with a few tables and than a large outdoor dining area in the back that overlooks the vineyard. It would probably be really nice for a dinner party. Their showing room was really nice. Instead of just wine, they sold cheese, crackers, serving plates, wine stoppers, etc etc. We weren't in love with the wine we sampled but they were fine. What made the experience really was the woman who was pouring our samples. Her knowledge of every wine she showed us was extremely impressive. She really knew the wine and knew what to show us based on our likes and dislikes.
I think I'd go again just for the scenery.
"It looks like that the last of them.....no , wait the sign says there's more down this way" And we rode down what looked like some back roads and there stood Macari Vineyards. Â "Looks nice" I said. Â She agreed and with that we decided to go in. Â The place is huge. High ceilings, wood everywhere, places to sit and a deck outside. The have tons of wine related "items" and the prices were relatively reasonable.
While I do not remember all of the wines we had here, I do remember that they had 3 different tastings to choose from. (most places will work with you if you hate certain ones). I did like the 2008 Dos Aguas. It was really nice, even if it was a filthy Merlot.
Really great staff that knew their stuff and while it was not packed (early March)
The pack of 40-50 something women that had been there since 12 (we got there at 3) livened the place up. ;) Â A definite spot to return to!
I have been a wine club member here for about 7 years. As it has grown it has lost some of it's charm. My wife and I went here yesterday and the staff was as interested in chatting amongst themselves as they were in pouring our tasting. I was also turned off by the staff drinking their starbucks and bottled iced tea behind the tasting bar. We were there early, it wasn't busy, so this was entirely unnecessary.
The wine is still very good, but it is not the value it once was. Still, it is a beautiful setting. The reisling with grapes sourced from the Finger Lakes was very good and something new. I also like their newer dos Aguas, a blend. The cab franc has been very good in recent vintages.
Macari is one of the bigger names in the area and put Mattituck on the wine map. I was a little skeptical back in the day but then I visited the tasting room and now I'm a believer! They don't have too many varieties but every release is solid and fortunately  they do make Cab Franc, which is unusual and a personal favorite.
I'm guessing they concentrate on perfecting the wines they currently manage and bottle a larger number of them compared to other LI wineries. Seems that would be an advantage from a business perspective, and Macari is clearly doing well, buying up more vineyard land and even an entire rival winery estate in Cutchogue.
What's really important to know is that the tasting room in Mattituck (the original) is very pretty and the tasting room in Cutchogue is exceptionally beautiful. The staff are super-warm so any wine novices who are nervous about being exposed need not fear.
I have been to almost all of the wineries on Long Island multiple times and this is my favorite one so far.
This may not be the most popular one but Thank God because most popular means most crowded and loudest. The inside is big and spacious with gifts to purchase as well as snacks to go with your wine. The wine selection is fairly priced and every different wine that they make tastes great. It is a chill relaxed atmosphere that has a great vibe to it.
The #1 reason that I prefer this place most is because of the outside deck overlooking the vineyard - it is so beautiful and relaxing to sit out there with some wine to share a relaxing afternoon with someone. I just love it and will come to this winery everytime I make the trip out east.
I'm not a big wine afficionado, so I will just say that I enjoyed the wine flight and the bottles that we purchased and drank on the property. Whether they were of good vintage or anything deeper than that I liked the taste, I couldn't say. I will leave that to the wine snobs.
But I did absolutely love the property and vibe at this vineyard. It's amazing that there is a place like this only about 90 minutes outside of Manhattan - who knew? It's kid-friendly, it's so fun to stroll up and down the rows of grapes and, although it was a bit chilly (might be time to install heat lamps on the outdoor patio, guys) it was a so much fun to just relax and take everything in.
Stopped by Macari on a trip out east over the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised. Â The wines were very drinkable. Â We enjoyed their smokey Merlots and their red blends, and I really enjoyed their Chardonnay Reserve. Â There was oak and butter and it brought me home (to California, that is), if only for a sip.
Plus, they have a nice patio.
This was my first LI wine tour & my friends' first wine tasting experience so I was hoping to make a good impression on them so that it could lead to a bigger interest in wine. Macari Vineyards is the best vineyard in LI. The building is spacious and so is the tasting area. The staff is extremely friendly and they know what they're talking about! All were very well trained.
I purchased the 2008 Block E. Unlike other local vineyards, they do not call it an ice wine because this area does not allow the natural production of it as in other parts of the world. There is no false advertisement here as I had seen in other LI vineyards.
I will definitely be back.
Beautiful, beautiful vineyard in the heart of North Fork wine country. We had several tastings, and took home both a bottle of rose, and their insanely amazing 2008 Block E, which was the most delicious dessert wine I've ever tasted. Everyone who worked there was very friendly, the tasting room is very nicely done, and they even have some tables outside, where you can enjoy a bottle and bring your own food to enjoy.
Review Source:In a chapter closed I ventured here many years ago with a former love, yet it did not blockage me to endure more happier memories with new found friends. After being exposed to the oppressing heat nearby Patty's Berries and Bunches for raspberry and blueberry picking, my Meetup group ventured here for some chilling time before our long haul two and half journey back into the five boroughs.
Macari won many awards in their tenure based from memory as one of Mattituck's renowned vineyard of North Fork Long Island, NY. Â Varies wine tastings for selective genres are available for patrons on a restrictive budget where one can still be buzzed without purchasing a full bottle. Â There is a outdoor shaded patio, indoor seating air conditioning area, and roadside outdoor shady picnic table where patrons can chill while sipping their wine. There is a TV where the continuous monitor demonstrates production from a grape to the final product of a wine bottle's formation. Â Event space is available for parties and weddings at Macari Vineyards.
After a visit to the farm, me and my besty walked to this vineyard. Yep, we did. We might as well could have rode a tractor there.
This vineyard is fancy and their wine are somewhat great. I guess it depends on your preference. But what we like was the most expensive for a small bottle of white wine. Since we were on a budget, we split the price and will be having a wine drinking lady night.
This is the second winery I have been to. In my opinion, it was better than James Port vineyards. For one, the wine was actually poured into wine glasses ;-) They have a small outside area, which was perfect since the weather was so nice. Our wine guide was a knowledgeable man and he knew a thing or 2 about the vineyard and the wines produced. We tried a white Chardonnay, Chablis style. Dry, and predictable. We also tried to 2 reds, one called Sete (seven in Italian) and also one called Bergen Road. Both very solid red wines, however, reds aren't my thing. We also tried an ice-style wine. Which of course was sweet, but nonetheless, very interesting. I am not into sweet or dessert wines, so this one didn't do it for me. Looks like the store was just recently built and some of the building was still closed off. This winery was a fun experience.
Review Source:We stopped at this winery after Jamesport Vineyards on a short winery tour of the North Fork.
This vineyard is massive, something like 600 acres. The wine tasting was very enjoyable: wines were served in real glasses (and not plastic cups), and the person in charge made a real effort to explain the wines and the history behind them. The outdoors space where we had the wine tasting was nice: a few pic nick benches under spacious tents, facing the vineyard.
Of the different wines we tried, I particularly liked their Chablis-style 2007 Estate Chardonnay ($18.99/bottle), and the Bergen Road (42% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Malbec, and 5% Petit Verdot; $42.99/bottle).
The winery itself is still under construction, and the architecture seems a bit off to me, being kind of modern and cold overall.
This winery would be a 3 1/2 stars for me: I would say 4 stars for the wines and 3 for the place itself.
We love this vineyard - the wines are all decent, better than the average Long Island swill served up out on the North Fork.
The people behind the counter for the tasting know what they are talking about and do not have to read the wine descriptions off the bottle.
Can't wait to go back!
