Wass very unhappy with the bar service they have know. What used to be the best part of going to Macgregors  was ther bar staff and know they have new that aren't very good. Love the concecept the food is good but lacks in service at all areas now. Whart used to be ther stable of service at the bar has gone down. Your better off at a table.

Normally I wouldn't be writing a review for a place where I only had a beer, but I feel compelled to do so anyhow. So please bare that in mind when reading this one!

We (son and I) were on our way to a Yelp event nearby and decided to stop at MacGregor's Grill and Tap Room for a cold one first. He told me he had been here before and it was pretty good.

I'm also not a beer drinker and when I mentioned to the bartender that I wanted to try something similar to Mic Ultra - I could feel his laughter - though he didn't actually chuckle out loud. He then proceeded to tell me about one of the most popular wheat beers and gave me a sizable sample. To my amazement - not only was the alcohol content up there - there was no bitterness and the flavor was great. Not sure of the carb count, but who cares?

The place seemed to be clean and there were enough people in there even at that time for me to think it'd be a happening place at other times and one place I wouldn't hesitate to return to - that beer was really good.

Though unlike my friend Lindsey - I really don't care about all the well groomed men she claims there to be, but I do hope she gets a booth full of them with her next time she is there. For me - I rather enjoyed the professional friendliness of the bartender that was working yesterday afternoon.  IF all their bartenders are as good as this one - it is no wonder people would go there for beer.

Not sure about the food - so read other people's reviews for ideas of that, but if you are seeking a nice cold beer and want to be able to select from a large list on a hot summer day and be treated nicely and a clean establishment - I suggest giving this place a try - what can it hurt?

Decent place, but they need to staff up accordingly. The bartenders don't seem to be in a rush to serve a pretty large bar

After being familiar with MacGregor's in the Rochester area, I was surprised to find that they had opened up a location in Amherst, conveniently located next door to the hotel I was staying at.  Since I had already had dinner, I decided to have just a beer at MacGregor's.  After mulling over their extensive beer selection, I had the Flying Bison Rusty Chain, in a 20 ounce glass.  If I lived closer, this would be a regular hangout for me.

I like MacGregor's. I really do. This place is where I met my first true love (more on that later) and made me reminisce about days gone by.

First and foremost, let it be known that MacGregor's is located in the very same building/spot formerly inhabited by Hooter's. Word has it that Hooter's was ran out of town when Friendly's moved in with their pro-family agenda malarkey. Let's have a moment of silence for our lost comrade and provider of kickass breaded chicken wings.

    *Silence*

Now, onto the review. My girlfriend and I went last Friday to meet some of her coworkers for drinks, food, darts, and more drinks. This was my first time coming to the place since it was converted from being a Hooter's. Being right next to UB North Campus, the place was (obviously) packed with students and professors, with both groups relentlessly hitting on the other from what I saw.

MacGregor's has a pretty extensive list of beers on tap, and I figured I'd give one a try-- Shock Top Apple Wheat. Normally, I'm not a beer drinker (my liver prefers rot-gut whiskey), but the minute this sweet malty beverage hit my lips, I was completely and utterly in love. Now I'm perfectly aware that I could've had this beer anywhere, but MacGregor's was my first.

Anyways, after about an hour of drinking at the bar with my girlfriend and her coworkers, we were seated. I was going to order the Cuban, but I was swayed to getting a fish fry.

About 20 minutes later, our waitress began bringing the food to our table (most of us ordered the fish fry). I was completely shocked by what I saw. It took me about 5 minutes to realize that the plates did NOT in fact have a beer-battered and fried piece of the Kraken itself on them. The piece of fish on each plate was that huge.

Batter was done in something of a tempura style, and the fish was flaky and flavorful. The steak fries covered the entire plate, and the slaw was pretty good as well. I can honestly say that this was the best fish fry I've ever had.

All in all, service was good, the darts were fun, and the ambience just right. Plus I met my true (beer) love at this place. You can't beat that!

The worst. Yes, they have DECENT taps, but $7 for a pint for Southern Tier 2X Xmas (and, yes, I understand imperial pints) served by a bartender with a brutal attitude? I'll pass. Do yourself a favor...go to Wegmans across the street, grab a $6 meal and a quality 6-pack and save the money. I'll guarantee you better food AND a couple quality beers without the unnecessary rudeness.

I just ate at MacGregors today. Let me just start out by saying that they were severely understaffed for the lunch shift on Black Friday. Being in a very populated retail area, you would think that they would have known that they would be busy. There was 1 bartender, 1 server, 1 bus boy and I am assuming 1 cook with how long our food took.

I had a roast beef sandwich with curly fries which was very good. It took 40 minutes for our food to come out which was definitely a downfall. There was also just one server taking care of about 7 tables. I get that people make mistakes but you can never have 1 server on, especially on a day that most people are off of work.

The bus boy brought out some hot pretzels and dip because our food was taking so long. I would have given this place a 3 but I bumped it to a 4 because it is locally owned. The food is great, but the service was my only real qualm. I will have to try it again to see if the service improves.

Awesome atmosphere, great beer list, and their signature sandwich is unbelievable. I think they need some help with their servers though because they are usually quite slow or just understaffed.

I've gone here many times for happy hour with colleagues. We pick it not only for the location, but also the beer list. As others have stated, it's extensive. They have a great selection and something for everyone. Highly recommend it if you're a beer snob. (It's online, so feel free to visit their web site to check it out before stopping in!)

As for the food, I haven't had dinner here much, but I've ordered both the wings and Macho Nacho Platter to share with others during happy hour. I'm a fan of both. The nachos are one of my favorite things ever -- especially with pulled pork! Sometimes when I'm having a drink at home I think about those nachos. Sooooo good.

I have never had a bad Black Russian, until now that is. I'm pretty sure the bartender forgot to include the vodka and just gave me a glass full of coffee liquor. Uh...

The bar itself was maybe half full on a saturday, and it's not very lively (which surprised me, being so close to UB..). The bartender was rude, and seemed off put that I asked for a cocktail instead of beer. On the plus side, they did seem to have a rather large (yet not that diverse) selection of beers. If you're a beer person, this might be the place for you. If you like cocktails, or anything involving Vodka, there are much better bars.

I was in Buffalo on business and, of course, had to have Buffalo Wings.  I asked people I work with who live in the area and they told me to avoid Anchor Bar no different than how I have never gone to Cheers in Boston.  One of the recommended MacGregors, which was convenient as it was near my hotel.

The place is spacious and was probably half full at 10pm on a Thursday night.  Most of the crowd appeared to be in their 20s, probably from U of Buffalo next door.

I sat at the bar and ordered a Great Lakes IPA which was very tasty and served in a dimpled mug.  The beer selection was overwhelming but they have a beer menu broken down by style and will serve samples to try different things.

I did get the wings, medium.  They were meaty, well cooked and well sauced.  The sauce definitely had more of a kick than what Medium tends to be elsewhere but not unpleasantly hot.

The bartender was probably in his late 40s and treated everyone well and was more than happy to engage in conversation about the differene beers.  Not someone who hung out and chatted with some customers and ignored others but handled everyone efficiently while still being social.

I have put this into my BlackBerry for future trips when I am looking for a casual meal.

If you've ever wondered where all of the good looking, gainfully employed men in the 25-34 age bracket in Western New York are hiding out, look no further, ladies. MacGregor's it is.

It was honestly kind of weird to me that EVERY occupied booth was stocked with at least 2 well groomed, well dressed young career men- aside from my booth of course. But, I suppose being across the street from a business park and having a huge beer list may have been reason for this high-class sausage fest.

The food: I can't completely judge since all I ordered was the soft pretzels appetizer and a side salad with ranch. The soft pretzels were delicious- hot, pillowy, and buttery. Mmmm! The cheese dip on the side was a little weird. I like plain cheese, not some cheese with a swirl of something else in it, but no biggie. The salad was standard and okay- ranch dressing too. I liked the glasses they served drinks in, though I only got water.

I can imagine this place could be relatively entertaining at happy hour or on a big game day. Might go back... But not for the food... :)

A disappointing experience. On a relatively tame Sunday night, with few parties indoors and fewer on the outdoor patio, MacGregor's barely managed to find someone to seat a party of two. Service was glacier-like slow. They had two servers and a junior assistant manager who were all but invisible. The assistant manager showed up once -- to spray down a vacated booth.

Food was marginal, nothing special, not attractively presented. My dinner companion's burger was overcooked. I'm convinced I could have saved about $10 by dining in the adjoining Friendly's Ice Cream restaurant, and likely had a more appealing meal.

This MacGregor's has so little in common with its sister restaurants in Rochester that the owners ought to give it another name. As it is, it damages the MacGregor's brand.

    I won't be back.

This location is an embarrassment to all of the MacGregors in the ROC area. Perhaps management should visit the MacGregors in Canandaigua to see how a beer bar/restaurant should be operated.

The bartenders and the managers are downright rude and chock full of attitude.

This location is nothing like any of the other Mac Gregors that I have visited (Henrietta, Downtown, Canandaigua, Perinton).

The only thing that this place has is the selection and variety of craft beer.

We stopped by here one afternoon for a drink before dinner. Hence, this review will be for the bar only. There's food offered, there's a dining area and you can order food, but we didn't do that during our last visit.

That being said, the best thing I liked about the bar is the awesomely huge selection of beers on tap. Imagine a whole two-cars-length line-up of beer on tap. That's a big selection: I had a bit of a hard time choosing what to get.

Perhaps the only thing I wished changed was the fact that they only had two bartenders on a Friday evening. There were plenty of people at the bar, there's a game showing on TV, and there's only two people working the bar. I think I ended up waiting for 10 minutes before I finally got someone's attention. And no, I don't mind making myself visible to catch someone's attention if I need to: I am not THAT socially awkward.

This is a great place to go for a drink and pub grub, but don't expect really great food.  was with a party of 8 last time we were there. The guys liked the irish nachos & wings, the basic salad was good, but I had a grilled chicken sandwich which was bad - I was so disappointed that it was definitely a preserved piece of chicken (and if it wasn't, they sure managed to make it taste like one).

The beer list is very impressive, I wish they carried a dry cider but if you've read any of my other reviews you're probably tired of hearing that. :-)  Was happy to se some local brews on there.

Darts and bubble hockey, including lots and lots of TVs for great views from any angle make this an ideal pre/post/during game spot.

This place is great for a large group of friends to hang out, get some drinks, and yummy foods. I have to say... the first time I came here, I thought it was pretty cool. I had Cajun Buffalo Wings. Within the hour of consuming them, I got terrribly sick!! OMG So painful... I cursed whoever contaminated my food in my thoughts while dying on the toliet. LOL

Second time I went was great! I had the Shrimp Platter and my boyfriend had the Boneless Wings in BBQ. Everything was delicious! mmm mmm And I didn't get sick this time. I also tried a Long Island Iced Tea. It was pretty tasty and it was hard to tell there was alcohol in it, which is how it should be made.

Only reason I lowered it down a star was because of the food poisoning and also lack of a pool table. The table in the back should be replaced with a pool table. Honestly, with a large crowd, you gotta have pool tables!! =]

Great beer selection, OK food. This place has a mile long tap selection of beer, really it's like a mile long, you name they got it. The down side is the food. My sons-in-law went here and none of us were excited about about our food after we ate. I had the Rochester Burger. The best thing to compare it to is watery taco meat on top of a burger. It was a mess to eat and did'nt sit well for the rest of the night.  As just a bar this place is 5 Stars all the way, too bad about the food. But I think I'll try another meal here and see if I change my mind.

MacGregor's is seriously one of my favorite bars in Rochester, so I was super excited to see them make their way down the 90 to Buffalo in my childhood backyard!  This place puts any and all Buffalo beer bars(Cole's, Pizza Plant, Goodbar) to shame.  This location has 80+ draft beers, with a wide range of styles including many great seasonals options.
Located in the old Hooter's location, the inside has the same set-up including all of the booths(not the scantily dressed waitresses though).  This allows you to get your brews at the bar, and have more intimidate conversations.  There is also darts and bubble boy hockey for some entertainment!
There is plenty of beer lists around that you give a chance to look at the various ales, largers, IPAs, stouts, porters and seasonals(etc) they have.  Every MacGregor's I've visited as had pretty friendly bartenders that will try a few samples first, and help you figure out what you would like based upon your preferences.  I know that their food as been average in Rochester, so the 4-star rating is partially for my previous food experiences, but beer selections is 5 stars, hands down.
Not sure what 6 pack to buy at Wegmans?  Come here first, and try it, and you can even fill growlers at the bar!!!!  My new go-to bar when i'm north of the city!
