Incredible food and atmosphere. I had the shrimp & grits with fried green tomatoes and they were amazing. But the best part of the meal was the creme brule for dessert. So smooth and creamy.
It's a little off the beaten path, but totally worth discovering. A true gem in Black Mountain.
Exceptional service and wonderful food! They coordinated a lovely rehearsal dinner for my brother and sister in law. My children and I have special dietary needs, which Kelly went out of her way to accommodate...right down to arranging dairy free ice cream sandwiches for the kids. I highly recommend them for dinner or special events.
Review Source:The Madison Inn came suggested to us by a bartender in Black Mountain and, as we drove down the dirt road to reach the place, we knew that we'd scored big time. Â A phone call placed to the establishment urged us to hurry, as there was a party of 27 coming in - so we scooted and arrived to have the place mostly to ourselves. Â
Situated as part of a bed and breakfast, the dining room is small, but dazzling with natural twigs festooned with bluish lights adorning the ceiling. Â Adjoining the main room is an alcove designed to resemble a home library with a raised section containing a small bar.
Despite my charging plate showing considerable wear, the service was classy and we ordered up two mimosas to start our meal. Â Mushroom caps stuffed with crabmeat served as an appetizer - just about as tasty as the same dish served at Disneyland's Blue Bayou once upon a time. Â Menu selections included Fresh Vegetable Risotto, Chicken Piccatta, Jumbo Shrimp and Sea Scallop Scampi, Vegetarian Athenian Pasta, Chicken Marsala and something called Salmon in the Weeds, which was a grilled wild salmon filet served atop a bed of pasta and sauteed with fresh baby spinach, herbed cream cheese, diced artichoke hearts and sweet cream topped with feathered parmesan and diced tomatoes. Â (I know, right?)
Despite all of that goodness, we were both in the mood for steaks and opted for the Burgundy Mushroom New York Strip Steak and  Filet Mignon.  Bread came with a delightful peach butter with little bits of the fruit whipped in. Â
The steaks were rich, tender and absolutely mouth-watering. Â Nuff sed.
Service was attentive and prices for entrees are in the $14 - $21 range, but we got out of there for less money than a normal trip to Outback. Worth it just to catch the ambiance alone, the Madison Inn is a must-visit for folks in the Black Mountain area - we'll certainly be coming back!
My husband and I recently ate dinner at this cute inn. It's kind of tricky to find (don't bother with MapQuest, just call for directions) and a little bit claustrophobic in the dining room (decorated to the hilt) but that's just me being picky.
We showed up on a chilly, wintery night and were promtly seated by the fire. The service was excellent, the inexpensive winelist offered some nice choices, and even though there was only one vegetarian dinner option (a mushroom risotto seved over grilled vegetables), it was excellent. My one complaint was that portion sizes are a bit small for the cost. I'm a small person and after salad, bread, a main course and dessert I was comfortable but could have eaten more. Still, everything was delicious and I definitely advocate quality over quantity.
