    Just another "Irish" pub.

There's nothing too special about Maguire's that would draw me back over and over again.  It's one of the bars in old downtown and makes a great addition to any barcrawl.

I give the place one star because any bar in Sonoma County gets one star just for existing.  I give it another star for decent service and above average ambiance.  I wouldn't order food there because the men's room is a disaster.

Note to staff, if you have to keep putting the chain back on the flusher, maybe after the thousandth time you should say to yourself, hmm, maybe we should change this up here and fix it.  And NO PAPER TOWELS.  So I go back to the bar area, watching everyone get served food, and I think, was this server even able to wash his hands?

Also, the beer always seems flatter and warmer than other places, I don't know why.

At 430 on a Saturday, in was a relaxing alternative to the pandemonium at Lagunitas. Nicely stored and poured brews, high quality pub food, smart, friendly staff.

My wife and my favorite spot to watch games. Great for what it is. They have the classic Irish Pub drinks (guiness, boddingtons, magners cider, etc...), as well as the classic food (bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage). The food is great, it's a really casual atmosphere, and the drinks keep coming! The service has been great 1 time, and average to poor the other. Depends on the bartender I guess. One bartender had a full bar and floor, yet was always getting drinks for people in a timely manner. The other had a half full bar, and we were the only one's on the floor, yet couldn't attend to us within 10 minutes of finishing our drinks. Love this bar though!

I miss Petaluma.  Definitely one of the little hidden gems that gets overshadowed by Napa.  Too bad, because it's a nice place.  Maguire's Pub is solid and has standard Irish pub fare.  Our waitress was very nice to us and also the older folks just tossing back drinks...that will be me when I am 70.  Anyways, good food, good service, check it out!

Very good food, friendly atmosphere, nice selection of beers including 2 IPAs, and video screens every few feet for watching the football games. Best choice for sports bars in Petaluma. Will definitely return.

As good as it gets in Petaluma.  Situated in an historic building, you really get the Irish Pub feel here.  Great bar snacks and an awesome selection of liquors.  Outside seating a plus.

Maguire's is under new ownership and it's not a bad thing. Still the great food and drinks. Happy Hour from 3-7 and they do trivia? Yes please!  It's 2 stories with comfy sofas to relax on upstairs. Gotta support local watering holes. Probably gonna be my Petaluma go to place.

Clean & fun with great music & food! This place is a Petaluma landmark with delicious food (try the burgers!) and great atmosphere, the furniture & the decor really give it an old world Irish pub feel.  I went with a group of girlfriends and had a blast!  Try the chocolate bread pudding (but don't brave it alone)!

I highly recommend it! I can't wait to go back!

I knew their fries were first rate, perfectly cooked (they're the "steak frites" kind) but last night I had the SWEET POTATO FRIES.  Out of this world.  Piping hot, crisp outside, soft inside and not the least bit greasy.  Served with hot spicy buffalo wing sauce on the side.  Huge order shared happily by 5 people.

The half off specials on Monday and Tuesday night have revived my interest in Maguire's.  The food is good, and cheap these nights, and the service has been steadily improving.  (Thanks Tenaya!)  I still won't venture down here on weekends, but I'm becoming more and more regular here.

Love 1/2 Mondays and Tuesdays! Fun and easy place for the family to go. Decent food and fun atmosphere. As for those who complain about 20% gratuity added on half off days, give me a break. I'm not saying the service is always terrific, but hey, IT'S BUSY. If you are getting 1/2 the bill you shouldn't be complaining in the first place. It's cheap people like you that make adding gratuity necessary.

This is a fun Irish pub with really great food. Once known as Finbar Divine, the new incarnation stayed true to its irish roots and I don't think they changed a thing but the name. Pub quiz on Wednesdays is always a good time, and as quizzes go its one of the tougher ones with good competition.

Recommend the shepherds pie or the fish n chips. The pie will come to your table at about 600 degrees right out of the oven so don't dive right in like I made the mistake of doing the first time; I damn near had to have a hard palate skin graft. I've also had the spring rolls which were amazing and full of flavor. Great beers on tap and excellent cocktails. I'd give it 5 stars but it turns into a dance club on Friday/Saturday nights. What wrong with that? I know I sound old, but sometimes you want to chill and get a pint in the best Irish pub in town on a weekend night. It gets packed and hot as a mutha. Tons of big screen tvs around the joint for watching the Giants game. Check it out.

My review is mainly to put "Darby T" in her place.

First of all, 1/2 half price everything on mon/tues is AMAZING and WILL save you money ... duh.

It is obvious you have never worked in the service industry based on your comments deriding the fact that a PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE gratuity is added to the bill PRIOR to removing 50% of the total. I don't care if it's for a drink, food, or WHATEVER. Correct and justified across the board.

More importantly, are you really complaining over an $18 bill? How much would you have tipped on the original $36? $5? Probably. Maybe less, based on the outrage you expressed over the $7.80. Is the honesty policy of this establishment really your problem here? I think not.

My recommendation is that YOU do not return, so that the rest of us may patronize Magiure's HAPPILY and enjoy their food, drinks, and CHEAP monday/tuesday menus.

Don"t usually right reviews but have to on this place.
    I just LOVE IT!!!
The food is good and the staff is the best in town.
The new manager is doing a lot with the place. I suggest everyone give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

How does this place only have 3 stars?  People be trippin! lol...

First of all... you can't beat the bartenders and staff.  They're always friendly and always on their game.

Secondly, the fish tacos... OH MMM GEEEE!!  They're amazing!!  I finally asked to meet the chef because everything I eat there is so good.  His name is Jose and he even let me try his homemade chili - which was fun to see/eat at the Petaluma Chili Cook-off.

I live in San Francisco, but every time I go to Petaluma, I visit Maguires for a bite to eat and a couple of beers.

Keep up the good work over there and I'll keep coming back!

BEWARE before going to Maguire's on Monday or Tuesday! Their 1/2 price menu won't save you $$!

My friend and I are fan's of their 1/2 price menu on Monday's and Tuesday's, however my most recent visit I'm afraid will be my last.

The day was gorgeous, the sun was shining bright and all the outdoor seating were taken. We moseyed on up to the bar ordered our drinks, and then ordered another. A moment later we noticed a free table outside. We decided to wait for our drinks before heading to the table, but the bartender insisted on bringing them out to us. After enjoying
the second cocktail of the afternoon we decided to have just one more.

We waited for table service, but realized we needed to order at the bar which we did. Upon bringing out our drinks she brought our check which included 20% gratuity!! What?? When I questioned this she said they began adding gratuity when then changed their menu a few months back. Our bill was $18, which would have been $36 had it not been Monday or Tuesday, and our gratuity was $7.80.

I understand this addition if had we ordered food, but to add restaurant gratuity to bar cocktails is ridiculous! Especially since we had one drink at the bar and had to order the rest ourselves. She offered to adjust the gratuity since we DID have one at the bar, and I just looked at her in complete astonishment, totally perplexed by this shady business practice. There are several very tactful, professional ways to inform your patrons of your business practices without making them feel taken advantage of.

I feel this addition of gratuity is asinine for the purchase of cocktails, but on the other hand it's totally necessary for folks who order food on this 1/2 price day. Because of this sneaky little addition which I don't feel the bartender deserved in the least bit, I will discourage anyone from visiting Maguires in the future. 1/2 price is nice, but I'd gladly pay double for honest service.

Yelp needs to consolidate this place with the other one that they have listed. I like the 1/2 off Monday & Tuesday menus.

    Ashley was a hottie too!!!

Can you fix this Yelp, please?

    *** 3 Stars....

Stopped by this place while waiting for a show to start at the Pheonix, sat at the bar and got ignored by an older bartender for quite a bit before he begrudgingly asked what we wanted. We ordered drinks, and werent sure he actually was paying attention, also asked for a dinner menu.

We got our drinks, and waited so long for our food order to be taken that it was too late. Guess they dont like making money?

And aside from that, I had an overall strange vibe from this place.

If, like me, you were just killing time, go somewhere else.

Rude service.  Alright food, if you can get the server to take your order.  We used to frequent this place before it was Maguire's (can't remember the name?), then it changed ownership.  The menu seemed similar, but the last time I was there, my husband and I waited 10 minutes in a small-sized, nearly empty dining room as the server took another two-top's order and ignored us.  I'll add that the other party arrived about 5 minutes after we did.  We left.  No reason to stay for horrid service when Petaluma is FULL of restaurants that welcome your business.

Looking at the other reviews, I see that Bartender Tony seems to provide awesome service.  I also see that other reviewers most likely suffered the same treatment as I did from the same female server....

Been here twice now and I really want to like this place, but the service is just lacking. Last time wasn't great either.

Went last night for Monday night football. I heard about their half off Monday's and Tuesday's. Its really everything, I was surprised.  Our waitress just stinked though. Trust me I don't come to bars for the service, but it was really that bad.

I can deal with someone not being excited about their job, but don't be rude. We ordered three appetizers and a round. She brought it out and some one in my group asked for ranch and all she said was that they charge for it now. Okay, I can handle 50 cents. After about 10 minutes he had to ask again and she just said, "oh I didn't already bring you that?" Uhhh...nope. Another 5 minutes and she brings the ranch. My friend also asked for a napkin to clean up a chip he had dropped and she just looked so irritated. Later she gave him the napkin and walked away. We were trying to do the right thing by cleaning it up. I'm sure not everyone in a sports bar cleans up there food on the floor. It just continued as we ordered another round and our designated driver was still waiting for their first water. Again, trying to do the right thing.

At the end a new server came over because they other girl had gone home. Its polite to introduce the new server, but I was just happy to see her go. Our new server was so sweet. I believe her name was Jessica and she was a happy blond girl. Wish we had had her the whole time.

I like the scene here, but I won't sit in her section again. It just became laughable. Beer was good, food was good, just not the service.

Its half off EVERYTHING on Monday and Tuesday, and while I can't vouch for the place after dark, it's my go-to spot when I want a pint and some pub-grub mid-day.

Tony's an excellent bartender -- there when you need him, out of sight when you want to be left alone with your beer and your thoughts. He really keeps an eye out -- some old drunk was harassing a female friend one afternoon, and Tony quickly stepped in and ran him right out of there. And then comped us drinks for having to put up with the creep.

Apparantly the place turns into a second-rate nightclub in the evening on weekends, and this review doesn't recommend it then, but during the day it's an excellent place to be.

    This place is McGreat!
I love coming here on weekends just before they add the velvet rope and charge a cover.  The best part is when people show up, pay the cover and walk in all surprised to find they just blew $10.
I just sit there with my fat tire and a "SUCKER!" look on my face.
mmmmmm.. fat tire would be pretty good now..

If you want to see a fight, hit on ugly girls, get really hot and sweaty, never be able to get a drink, be attacked by really fat bouncers, watch creepy old pedophile men hit on girls, listen to a bad dj, be around guys in cheesy dress clothes, and have an overall bad time then maguires is the place for you!

Been to downtown Petaluma lots of times and again, we end up coming here for at least one stop.

This place is odd in that there's a mix of young and old people mingling in the overly crowded dance area.  This dance area always has way way too many people and it gets way stuffy, even with the door wide open.  It's just not well ventilated at all.

The upstairs is much quitier, and there's a second bar.  Usually there's a sectioned off area outside for the smokers, so they don't have to wait in line again.

This place was better as Finbar.

I love this place. I've been a couple times recently, and have yet to have a bad experience there. The bartenders are competent, the security staff is friendly and effective, and it's always interesting to see who I'll run into here. Drinks are reasonably-priced, and even when the place is packed, there's never too long a wait for my Jameson.

In my mind, the place is just the right size/atmosphere for an awesome night out. I'm not real big on most nightclubs, so coming somewhere small, like Maguire's, that still has a DJ and dancefloor, should I get in the mood to boogie, makes me a happy girl. There's always good people-watching here, and while this would normally be a 4-star establishment, I'm giving an extra star because when I punched some guy for grabbing my ass, the awesome security staff booted him, apologized to me, and told me the guy deserved it.

    I'll definitely be back. :)

We stopped in here today for lunch. Nice place! Although I had just a bowl of soup I will say it was delicious (brocholi & cheese) and the toasted bread was great. My only problem with it was I could have eaten two bowls. I will try the fish & chips next time as I was told that it is great.

Packed, loud, dark, and contains all the people you saw back from high school who either has returned for the weekend or still living in town.

The plus side is how big the place is... sadly it still gets packed though.

Friday and Saturday nights are packed here. The downstairs gets so crowded its hard to move! Upstairs is way better if you want to get drinks because they have a small bar and there is hardly every anyone up there so you don't have to try and shove your way to the bar downstairs.
    Fun, crazy, loud and obnoxious.
    Love this place ;)

Just went there for fish & Chips afternoon meal.  The place is ok,,,, but I have tell you that I had to ask the waitress to give me knife & fork and napkin when I received my plate.   The meal was ok,    Two fish and chips along with cole slaw (loved it)!  but,,,, just five minutes after i had my plate, and I see another plate went by with three fish and chips?  I don't know if cook is stoned and the waitress?    I was kinda disappointed with my service.

I don't know how much the name change has changed things, but back when it was Finbar it was the lamest place to go. Hip hop nights at an irish pub? Christ, could it be more of a moneygrab?

I am clearly getting older and squarer.  Absolutely will never return after dark (the pub food's good enough, but not so much Irish).    Karaoke and DJ Top 40 Dance Machine have turned this bar into a scene - I'm sure that's great for the bottom line, but it's like Infusions drifted across the street.  One must scream out one's order over the din of disastrously bad music, and then wend one's way through the half-dressed children on the dance floor having intercourse through their clothes.  You can catch some sports on the jazzy flat-screen TV array, but since I'm not sporty, there's just nothing here for me.

I am 31 years old.  Perhaps going on 45.  At any rate, when I was 21 I was aware that I was obnoxious and intolerable to adults, and now I'm an adult, surrounded by 21-year-olds.  If YOU are 21, or a youthful 26, head on over to Maguire's and get your groove on.  I'll be at Andresen's recovering my nerves.

I went here with no expectations, and truth be told, I thought it was still Finbar's - but I was giddily surprised! Yes, Giddy!

I ordered the stuffed pork chop, because it boasted almond slivers, raisins and sundried tomatoes. Curious how/if the tomatoes would fit in, I ordered. Ok, actually, I made my friend do the "pick a hand" game with me so that I could decide between the pork and the ahi tuna salad.
I was happy with the cards Fate dealt.
Perfectly cooked pork stuffed with stuffing goodness, topped with a fabulous wine reduction served along with caramelized onions, green beans and peppers - what's not to love?

Our waitress was Super nice. And I say that with all the Valley Girl glory that it brings. She was friendly, smiley and totally genuine. She was tops. Until she told us about the bread pudding. It was double chocolate bread pudding with walnuts. It was warm. It was drizzled with spectacular sauce and garnished with strawberries.
We were supposed to share - but I had the Lion's share for sure.

Go, try it out - you won't be disappointed.
