My boyfriend dragged me here against my will but i'm glad he did! Â For some reason I thought this was an old dive bar that happened to serve food. Â Not sure why I thought that, hence my reason for being dragged.
We got there and the place was packed (a good sign for a Friday night). Â We stood in line for a reasonable amount of time and ordered our food. Â We both got burgers, kid got the combo plate (growing boy felt the need to have ribs and chicken), order of the mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers along with a pitcher of beer. Â Without the beer, the total was $75...wow, didn't realize the prices of the appetizers ($9 each) but oh well. Â We found a seat near the bar and waited for our food. Â Appetizers came out promptly as did our food. Â The ONLY complaint I have about the food (aside from my initial sticker shock) was that the burgers were hard to eat as they were so big. Â BF and I both made a huge mess trying to eat. Â I finally gave in and cut my burger in half while he attempted to eat his as it fell apart (he got the biggest burger on the menu so this was semi-expected)
Food was delish, atmosphere was fun, people were very nice. Â I'd def come back here for beer and football or for dinner.
The food is awesome but it's pricey so I don't eat here that often. I pretty much always order a chicken sandwich with fries. I love the sweet potato fries but it is like $3 to upgrade to them so I don't always get them.
Sometimes I like to go on Sundays during Niners games and order a pitcher. If you plan on doing that, go early because it gets crowded!
I have to say, Malibu Grill is by far one of my favorite places to grab lunch for all of my co-workers and me. There are not a lot of restaurants left that cook the food to order and have such an amazing menu to choose from. My personal favorites are the Philly on fire (real tri-tip!!) and the Tri tip fajita salad.
I've noticed some comments on here saying it takes too long to get your order but I don't think they realize that the meat doesn't even touch the grill until you've placed your order and that definitely shows in the mouth watering flavors.
If you are considering visiting Malibu Grill I highly recommend it, if you are in a hurry call ahead and have a full rack of ribs waiting for you!
My mom and I stumbled upon this whole in the wall while on our way somewhere else one Saturday afternoon. Â We got there around 12:30 or so and we were practically the only ones there. Good thing too because just after baseball got over the place was ramped!
We both ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries. We thought it was a little pricy; $30 for two sandwiches and a soda. There was a long wait as well, but when the food arrived all was forgiven. The pulled pork sandwich was HUGE! Two adults could (and should) share one of these puppies. The fries are plentiful and hot too.
Get there early and share this yummy place.
Ordered on the phone for takeout but there's no separate line to pick up so you have to stand behind everyone ordering their food and watch yours get cold waiting on the counter.
Food: Â chicken was burnt and dry. Â No extra bbq sauce like they used to give, they charge $2 extra for onion rings but don't tell you, and more for take out. Â The servers don't tell you there's two sides with your dinner so they just give you a side they choose and of course it's something I can't eat and don't like. Â
It used to be a great greasy spoon but is lacking anything to go back for now.
I had the blue cheese burger (check out the pix).
The burger was not bad but it wasn't great either. It felt like the burger patty needed some seasoning. It was a HUGE burger and it includes fries, which they tasted ok.
Service was great.
Would I come back and try again? Probably not, I wasn't to thrill with the price. If it was bomb food then I would totally fork my money over, but not for mediocre food. I had burger, fries and a soda for $13.25, which @ IN & OUT you can get a #1 & #2 Â for $14.00, what would you choose?
YUM!
I picked up lunch here the other day for a friend and myself. Â She lives near by and we were working on a project.
I got a chicken Philly (spicy--I forget what it was called) and she got a chicken sandwich. Â Both were delicious. Â Heavy, greasy and not good for you fare, but delicious.
Food was ready when they said it would be and service was friendly.
I was going to give it 4 stars, but the 5th star was given based solely on the fact that it's right around the corner to my house. Â Having said that, it's a great place to go to for a bite, brew, and to watch some football. Â I recommend their philly on fire cheese steak with sweet potato fries. Â
BTW- they have a chef that looks just like Michael Vick! Â That's a win in my book.
Malibu Grill is a fun watering hole and eatery, with a sports atmosphere. But today, Malibu Grill Catering is what I am writing about. I have eaten at the restaurant MANY times, it's an established eatery for Union Little League coaches, kids and parents during the little league season.
Saturday I attended an event that Malibu Grill was catering. The food was mainly barbeque, and they brought their own barbeque and cooked on the spot. There was plenty of great baby-back ribs, delicious chicken and sausage to go around! The food  preparation and presentation was well done. The meat was accompanied by garlic bread, salad, potato salad, all in generous proportions.
They were efficient, timely and polite.
Good work Malibu!
Went here with a couple of friends. Service was great. Hamburgers were awesome. Right now they're having the Monday deals to get a burger, fries and a drink for $7.95. Super good deal. Bathroom was clean. Only thing was that the fries were a bit too salty.
Definitely recommend this place!
I've been here a couple of times, first time was lunch to go and the second I had the pleasure of finding a table on a packed
Saturday night! My girls are very picky eaters and they loved it! I ordered The Big Kahuna Burger both times.. cooked to order perfectly! One of the Best burger joints in San Jose.. Tucked away in a little strip mall.. Malibu Grill & BBQ delivers when it comes to quality! Sierra Nevada on tap is a BIG time BONUS!!
I had another reviewer (owner? friend?) private message me complaining about my review (you know who you are) and rambled on about how I don't know how the food business. WTF? I don't need to know. I eat out every day! The nerve!
Well whatever relation that guy has with this place, I must have made a difference because sodas are now a respectable $1.95 after all these years. I don't really drink soda very often, I felt compelled to voice my opinion as a consumer and do my part. Most people overlook the prices of soda when they order food, and it is not usually the restaurants' fault. I consider myself a smart shopper, but even I had this happen a few times due to the pressures of ordering. The lady taking the order, the hungry and annoyed people behind you. Oh the agony, right? LOL
Food as always is good. I had the tri-tip today and it was juicy and meaty with the right amount of seasoning. It came with an excellent side of fries (hit or miss as I've had cold fries before)
I stand my ground about my previous review, but +1 star for hearing "us" (I think) ... the little customers.
I order mushroom swiss burger today ,first of all took to long to get ready around 30min and when I got it was horrible and disgusting  .I asked for medium, and they gave me something more like well done. over all bad experience at this place and ,specialy when all this teenagers  kids running the kitchen at this place.
An other reason I went there to watch nba basketball but all of the Chanels were on woman basketball and I look people to ask them to change it but all of them look other way. All sauce were empty. totaly disappointed.
An other funny thing they charge $10 for food but if you don't order soda they will not bring you water with your order cheap service.
Well tried this place once again and the food and service was even worse than the last time. I guess if you want to go drink all night long in a side dive bar than this place is ok . However if you want to catch a hamburger and not have to wait 30 minutes than forget it.
We got to Malibu about 730pm not peak time frame and there was no line . So for once thought this should be a no brainer. The kids behind the counter were too busy talking again to take our order promptly and once we did order noted a 25 minute wait. I thought to myself you must be kidding we are the only ones in line and looks like this place is pretty wide open. My husband was determined they were just stating that and we sat down.
I ordered the bacon cheese burger pretty basic yes and he ordered the Fish and chip. YES I agree bad order coming to Malibu Grill and ordering fish and chips however what they presented him with was atrocious and not edible. My burger was completely cold patty dried out and really so bad I could not eat it. Â There was no utensils at the counter since the high school staffing seemed more interested in talking in back about going out later that night. Â
I actually got up to find a fork and knife to come back to my husband with a handful of napkins soaking the grease out of the fish and chips ohhhh my . If you like marginal food need to drink with 25 small kids running around , don't care about service or quality of food then this is your place . I came home later and told my 20 year old daughter where we went and the first thing out of her mouth was that place is horrible and you should have gone to "FIVE GUYS BURGERS " they are great price is right and fresh . Agreed completely since Ihave been there and love it even with a wait !!
My suggestion anyone wanting a decent dinner of burgers and fries go to this place and blow of Malibu Grill. Who ever owns this place needs to clean up the front counter staff be more attentive to its clients and fix the menu and wait time . BAD all the way around
I'd give them 5 stars, but the prices really are a bit over the top. Â Other than that, no complaints. Â We've been eating there as long as we've lived here (going on 15 years), and haven't had a bad meal that I can think of. Â And trust me... we've eaten there a LOT! Â My son has grown up on their food... and he's a big fan. Â For me, it's close, easy, and good food. Â On nights I just don't feel like cooking, it's the one place that will usually satisfy everyone.
Food: Â burgers are really good. Â My fav thing is the tri-tip philly... oh yummy yum yum! Â when my parents come over, they love the philly on fire. Â I also love their chicken ceasar salad (which is saying a lot... I'm usually not a ceasar fan). Â the chicken is marinated or something, and it is really tasty! I hate getting bland chicken on a salad, and theirs is never even close to bland. Â delicious! Â my daughter loves the chicken strips. Â zucchini sticks are yum too. oh heck, everything seems to be good! pizza is decent, but not my favorite thing there.
People: Â they are always friendly. Â It's a nice place to go in to... even if it's just to pick up food to go (which is what we usually do). Â My teen son likes to ride his bike over and eat there from time to time, and they always treat him well.
give it a try. Â you'll be glad you did!
This place is right down the street from my house. The FI told me he would go there all the time. So, needless to say I've been there a couple of times. The sandwiches are ALWAYS money. I think I've had chicken sandwich, a fish sandwich, and prob some like Philly cheese steak  sandwich. All BOMB.
They also have a couple of games playing. So its great when there's a sharks, giants, A's, or Warriors game on. They also have beer, which makes everything  I would definitely recommend this place.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with Malibu Grill - when I pulled up, it is situated next to a 7-11 in a run down strip mall. Â So, I was a little worried. Â I met my boy Tony there for a pre-golf meal. Â He said he used to come to this place all the bluckin time and he remembered it was solid.
As soon as I walked in, I had a pretty good feeling about the place. Â They had a big menu of burgers, chicken sandwiches, melts, cheese steaks, salads, pasta, pizza. Â Pretty much everything. Â The place is decorated as a sports bar, and looks like a decent neighborhood place to catch a game.
I ordered a Mozzerella Sticks appetizer, and a Turkey Melt. Â Tony had a Chicken Cheese Steak. Â The sandwiches came with fries as well. Â She said it would be about 10-15 minutes. Â Our Mozzerella Sticks showed up about 15 minutes later - they were actually rock solid. Â The sandwiches took a while, about a half hour. Â Tony began getting upset with the wait and I warned him not to say shit. Â I don't like the taste of spit. Â Finally the sandwiches arrived.
The fries were pretty good. Â The sandwich was just OK. Â I think I should have ordered a burger. Â The ones at the table next to ours looked good.
I'd like to give it a try again. Â Until then, a safe 3.5 and possibility to grow to a 4.
Holy Shnikes the boiga here is fen-nom-nom-inal!! I mean HUGE like how do I open my mouth around this moster! I somehow crammed it in I felt like Ms pacman! *woka woka woka*
It was called the big kahuna burger. (duh, i should have known).
It came with bacon, onions, tomato, mushrooms and BBQ sauce.
Speaking of Ms Pacman... they actually have a Ms. Pacman game there! Ah memories! The Simpson pinball is cool too!
The cheese steak came with jalapeno's!! WHAT a concept! That shiznit was the bomb! All cheese steaks should come like that! I must say there was a boat load of cheese on that thing, i thought i was going to be clogged up all night if you know what I mean. But it was a damn tasty cheese steak!
I used to come here for the Philly on fire cheese steak sandwich which is pretty good. It's not as authentic as other cheese steaks in the area but was tasty.
I have one complaint about this place; They won't let you order any of there sandwiches WITHOUT the fries. The sandwich's they server here are very good size and will fill you up just with the sand which alone. I try to watch what I eat when going out and sometimes don't want / need the fries with all those extra calories. I have even asked them when ordering if I can get the sand which without the fries and knock a few bucks off the price but they refused. The other problem is the price. It will run you around $15.00 for a Philly sand which with the mandatory fries and a coke. Pretty expensive for a lunch stop. I do like the vibe in this place but I think the management should change up the menu and add fries as a side order.
A small hole in the wall place that you wouldn't know it was there until you drove in to go into 7-11 or were getting gas next door. Â This is a family owned place and has been for as long as I can remember. Â I grew up around the corner from here and we'd come here at least once every couple of weeks for dinner or lunch on the weekends. Â It's one of the best kept secrets in that area. Â Everytime I've been there, it's always been busy :)
Most recently I had the grilled chicken sandwich (BORING I know) but it was quite good! Â In fact all of their chicken sandwichs that I've had have been pretty damn good! Â I look forward to trying to their bbq ribs next time I go.
Their menu is pretty large and has something for everyone on it. Â It's a great place to come watch Sunday football because they have eight large flat screen TVs as well as some decent beers on tap. Â But if you want to come watch football on a Sunday here it would be a good idea to come a little early so you can get a place to sit because it does tend to get busy!
Seriously the best food we have in Almaden area. Â My husband and I are in love with the food and the staff. Â Of course we love it when the owners are there. Â They are so nice and you can tell they actually care about the quality of their food. Â
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Â The ribs are to die for, they just fall of the bone. Â The burgers are fantastic, pretty much anything on the menu is fabulous. Â They have a chocolate cake for desert that is delish...LOVE THIS PLACE.
This place is one of those hole in the walls that you just fall in love with.
I see all of the positive reviews so perhaps we ordered poorly.
We came for lunch with a group of 4 children and 4 adults. Â We could either order individually and spend a small fortune or we could order pizzas.
We ended up with pizzas and I was not impressed. Â Maybe it was because we got cheese pizzas which I find totally boring, but the crust was doughier than I would have preferred. Â We also got a pitcher of beer, which was at a happy hour price because an NFL game was on. Â Not that happy hour is such a huge savings: $8 full price, $7.50 happy hour. Â
Maybe if I lived out near Almaden would I bother to come here again and give this place a second chance. Â But since I can think of about 50 restaurants closer to me that I'd prefer to patronize, I doubt I'll return.
Still searching for my go-to pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Â Malibu's was not cheap, but was probably enough for two. Â The pork was dressed/wet, and was piping hot. Â Not too sure why it needed to be almost too hot to handle, but it was pretty good. Â
Something that made it stand out was the fact the pork sat in a nice garlic bread bun/roll. Â Nice touch. Â The other part that stood out (in a not so great way) was the BBQ sauce. Â It was a bit like the bright red (yellow#5) Thai-American style egg roll sauce----It was too sweet and almost translucent look for my taste.
Guess I will keep looking...
This is a great place to meet after a game....good beer, good food and good company. Â
I was introduce to this place by my daughter's coach and now I'm hooked! I wanted my  "foodie"  boyfriend to try it, he was very hesitant but after much convincing he agreed.....and much to his surprise he like it too.
We both love the Philly-on-fire, minus the bell peppers and add pineapple, the steak salad with the spicy ranch dressing is yummy too!
Oh....... and for all you sports fans......lots of TV's!
I was in the craving for a burger and fried food, and this place delivers those in abundance. Â Others have pointed out that the place is hidden and tucked in the corner of a strip mall. Â It is, but history tells me that hole in the wall joints are worth the adventure. Â
We started out with some onion rings and mozzarella sticks before graduating to the avocado burger. Â The place was very relaxing and comforting. Â
4 of 5 stars and definitely worth another stop.
It looks sketch from the outside since it's located in a strip mall but its actually really nice inside.
The indoor decor is surf meets bar kinda place and its super clean inside.
We had the salad, pizza, curly fries, and the fried calamari which was all really good. The waitstaff that worked there are all really nice and friendly.
I notice the crowd is mainly highschool/college age probably because they serve alchy and they have the ticket on tv.
Hubby and I were craving blue cheese burgers this weekend and did a little research and found our way to Malibu Grill & BBQ. A friend had recently mentioned this place; said it was pretty good, but I didn't really pay attention because it's not really near where we live.
We split the blue cheese burger and a half-rack of ribs. Huge thumbs up on the burger. It tasted great - just the right amount of grilled onions and good quality blue cheese. Burger itself was juicy and good. Got a little annoyed when the bun fell apart before we'd finished.
The ribs were okay. Not really my favorite sauce - it was sweeter than I like. They were a bit overdone as the meat was falling off the bone when you touched it with a fork. I think I still prefer Armadillo Willy's ribs.
The fries were good and hot. Kiddo had a huge plate of angel hair pasta with butter. He claimed the garlic bread it came with was spicy - I saw a few flecks of chili pepper but mostly it was just dry when I tried it. I guess it's a bit bold for a kid's menu item.
The place was pretty small - tables close together. Lots of TVs all playing sports. A little pricey - $31 for all listed above plus one soda. Service was pretty slow, considering when we got there, it wasn't all that crowded and everyone there already had their food. But the quality of the food was pretty good, so I would go again. Especially for that blue cheese burger... mmmmmm...
Everyone I know seems to think this place is OK, so why all of the great reviews here. I am very surprised.
The ribs are good but very expensive. The burgers are good but also going up in price. It is kind of an Almaden hangout for the young kids, my nephew loves it as long as he gets his ribs, his favorite.
It went through a big upgrade and I guess the higher prices are paying for it. I drive by here all of the time but never think to stop in and eat so I guess it just isn't very meaningful to me but I am not a ribs/burger kind of guy either.
It isn't bad and it isn't good, to me it is just kind of average and there are so many other places to go that are a better bang for your buck.
This place is great if you are not afraid of a little grease. Try the blue cheese burger. If you love blue cheese, then this is the burger for you: big beef patty, lots of grilled onions, tomato, lettuce and a mountain of blue cheese on a sesame bun.
Mmm-mmm! Â All of their burgers come with fries and a pickle as well.
Food was very good! Â Went here Sunday night and watched the Shark's game while stuffing my face =) Â I got the combo with ribs and chicken.. comes with beans, garlic bread, and a side I got potato salad... the fries are also yummy and have a hint of garlic as well... Â Someone at my table got a cheesesteak which looked yummy as well large chunks of peppers and onions... Â
Quite a cozy set-up, some video games, a simpson's pinball machine, about 8 tvs set up around the place. Â Get your own drinks, the girls bring your food to your table, and you get your own condiments at the counter. Â
Didn't realize they had pizza and pasta might have to test that out one day, but I definitely love the bbq! Â The sauce has a good kick to it so I'll be coming back for more =)
I'm conflicted  as to give Malibu Grill & BBQ three stars or two.  I'll err on the side of caution and go with three.
My wife and I ordered the Big Combo to share, it's a 1/2 chicken and 1/2 rack of ribs served with beans, cheesy garlic bread, and a choice of side (we got coleslaw). Â I also threw in an order of curly fries.
The fries were good, served straight from the fryer with a side of ranch.
The chicken and ribs were awesome. Â Very heavy smoked flavor, and falling off the bone.
However the sides were a huge disappointment. Â The bread was great but the beans and coleslaw were just terrible. Â The beans should have been called bean soup. Â Mostly bean sauce with a few beans at the bottom of the cup. Â The coleslaw was half sauce half cabbage, disgusting. Â I was having to skim the extra sauce of the top. Â I would bet money that the recipe for both sides are from KFC, it was an exact flavor match.
As a BBQ joint it's a bit of a let down. Â If you want BBQ go to Armadillo Willy's instead. Â I think I will give it a second chance and try one of their burgers. Â It seems thats what they are more geared towards anyway.
