we have been going to Mandarin Court for many years since they opened and my child was a youngster. It was always a lively place, we were warmly greeted at the door.  At the end of the meal a real treat awaited us in the way of something incredible carved from a carrot.  We lapsed going there in favor of a Thai restaurant in Washington Twp.  This evening we were shopping and wanted some good lo mein  and an egg roll.  This is not the Mandarin Court we remember.  The waiter was sullen, practically throwing our entrees at us...the food was ok but not great, and the lo mein was flat and stale- the noodles were dull looking, not fresh at all.  We did complain and got our money back for the lo mein,  but this place has plummeted into the depths of chinese-food-hell as far as we are concerned. We wondered if the growth (they have 4 restaurants in our area now) would have affected the  quality of the food.  Apparently so.  We will not be back
Review Source:Second visit and experienced pleasant service both times. The avocado chicken is sliced chicken breast and avocado over a soy sauce base and is simple, light, and tasty. Tried the tempura tuna and cheese roll sushi which was very good too.
The waiter for our table of 8 was professional, attentive, and efficient. He even cracked a joke at the end of our meal. Sorry to see others have had poor service.
This once was the flag ship start of the Mandarin restaurants which most offer excellent food and service.  As a very popular take out establishment,  dining in can be a hassle.  An ALWAYS congested tiny waiting area,  you're forced to squeeze in with the take out people.  Confusion can arise as to who's there for take out,  to be seated,  and to who was there first.  The hostess must have been having a bad day,  she was short and rude to everyone.  There were only 2 couples in the dining room and I had to ask to be seated.  Once seated,  The waiters were very good despite being constantly yelled at by the hostess.  EEK!  Kinda made you feel like you were walking on egg shells.  Food was great as always.  Dining out should be a fun,  relaxing  event.  I think i'll stay with the other Mandarin's because there is a definite need for a Management Change.
