You can read all the other reviews to learn about the short comings of this place.  Yeah, there are some; like a really enjoyable patio space right next to rt 32.  But, here's the thing:  the food is very good and full of flavor.  The value for what they serve you is very good.  High quality food, nice portions.  The real win is the place itself.  Definite hippie vibe but in a very relaxing enjoyable way.  I am not fond of servers or other diners wearing patchouli while I try to enjoy a nice meal.  Not a problem here.

Fries and fish tacos absolutely wonderful.  Great drinks and beers.  Live music starts to late for me but nice to know its there.  The bahn mi sandwich is delicious.
I wish there was a place like this in Albany because there is something about this place that makes the stress in life fade into the background.
Kudos to the owners, I like what you are doing!

I'm so lucky to live right up the hill from Market Market! Everything they make is delicious from their regular menu, and the specials have never disappointed me either. Nice selection of cocktail, beer on tap/bottles, and wine. Especially fun on nights there is music. Now that the weather is getting nice, the outdoor seating is an option.

One of my pet peeves with restaurants is the desire to make bigger and bigger burgers.  Market Market goes in the other direction offering what they call the Wimpy burger on a homemade bun.  I ordered that with the handcut fries and homemade ketchup-yummy!  My better half ordered the fish tacos and cleaned his plate as well.

Those of you who complain about the prices-go to McD's and eat crap.  You get exactly what you pay for.

I was reeeeeeeally disappointed with Market Market.

Upon walking in, we were not greeted at the door. It was very hot inside, and kind of grimey. Meh, that's cool. Adds character. We waited. It was very loud. We waited again. Eventually the waitress looked up and quietly said we could sit anywhere we want. Okay. We sat outside.
We ordered the deviled eggs as an appetizer, which took maybe 15 minutes to arrive. The waitress did not see if we would like to order our entrees in the meantime. Anyway. They were very wet and not particularly flavorful. I prefer a much more dry deviled egg. Meh.
Next. My mother ordered the Vietnamese sandwich and I got the burger. The sandwich was quite good, but we ordered greens with it and they were a bit overdressed. The bread was excellent.
The bread that the burger came on was kind of a buttery biscuit, and was kind of a lot to handle. The meat was very greasy but passable. (This just upsets me because I know it's grass-fed, local beef--I'm sorry to see it be wasted.) But, worst of all, I ordered it medium-rare, and it came out medium-well. Not that the waitress checked on us during the meal so I could tell her about the misfire. But, I could have told you that the meat would be overdone judging by how long the food was taking. I will, however, say that the hand-cut french fries were excellent.

The restaurant was not busy. After waiting yet another 15 to 20 minutes after we were done with our meal, looking at our empty plates, we gave up and walked inside to pay. The waitress was instant messaging on the cash register and had her back to us. (It seemed to be a regular mac computer with a cash register function.) The male bartender did not acknowledge our presence. We waited. And waited.
Eventually we were permitted to pay.

Maybe it was an off day, but I was really surprised. Everyone I talk to loves this place.
I don't want to sound overly critical of our server, but seriously, step it up.

Two stars for the homemade bread and the french fries. Also, interesting menu.

I visited this establishment as a sort of semi-neo-tourist from San Diego. I poked my head in a few months ago on my last visit to the area. The reason I chose this establishment is because my pendulum indicated that I should. I guess someones looking out for you guys. Market Market has a very informal, laid-back and rustic dining environment and vibe. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. The restaurant is family-friendly. Water was served chilled in rustic, green bottles. That was a first for me, and My date and I had Korean-style shallot pancakes for our appetizer. These were quite tasty. I had the simple salad and the beans and rice platter. My date had the Tofu-Veggie Stir Fry. The salad had a nice sesame note in the dressing. The serving for the salad was very generous, making me wonder if I want to order it with dinner in the future. The salad was also heavy on the greens, i.e. no iceberg. That was good. Lots of spring greens. Rice and beans were good, but a bit on the bland side. I found myself adding salt to the dish. The table we had was a bit small, resulting in a bit of a traffic jam when my salad and the entrees arrived simultaneously. However, the wait staff was kind and courteous and offered to hold my entree at the kitchen window until I was ready for it. The bathroom was a small, one-room closet with a standard commode. It was painted in a bright, foam green hue. This was kinda psychedelic after sitting in the rather dark dining area for up to 30 minutes. The sink was situated in the hallway, sort of communal style. Kinda quirky. Nothing that would make me not come back. Perhaps the other doors had different bathroom options. I didn't check. I liked Market Market. It was a cool, funky joint that I would recommend to friends. I might not bring my mother  though. Don't know if she's ready for it.

I go here EVERYTIME I'm in Rosendale; you should too!
It's a really amazing and relaxed little place. The food is super-tasty and extremely affordable. I've been here for both breakfast and dinner and have been overly pleased everytime.

I really enjoyed my visit to this cute cafe. It has a very Brooklyn/hipster vibe to it, both in the decor and the crowd. But, what I loved about this place immediately was the service. Our waitress was bubbly and helpful and just an absolute delight! I got the Bahn Mi sandwich with the potato salad which was super good. A little spicy, but great. And, my boyfriend got the Turkey BLT with sundried-tomato mayo, which was to die for. He got fries with his, and the girl brough us some of their homemade ketchup, which was amazing. I'm really glad I had the opportunity to try this place out. For the record, we went on a Friday, and they serve food until 9, and sometimes have a band . . . and who doesn't love to hear live music while stuffing their face?  I'll be seeing more of YOU soon, Market Market!

Comfort food, homemade fries and ketchup, and music;   I think the prices are reasonable because it's quality food; they try to be organic when they can.  The beers range in $2 for the Pabst Blue ribbon in a can, $3.5 for the Yuengling and the $6 Guinness and they also have espresso! Service was very slow on this xtra busy night but we came to sit, eat and listen; this is possible in or outside of what looks like was once a barn.

We love MM! Last night we ate delish fish tacos and korean fried chicken. You can never go wrong with the tofu bahn mi or the perfect local beef burger. It has a relaxed vibe and very good food. We're happy and thankful to have Market Market as our go-to place.

I live 2 miles away and I went here with high hopes but left very disappointed.

My biggest complaints are their prices are too high and the quality of food is just average.  Nothing special here folks.

I mean really, $4-5 for a breakfast sandwich?!  I think not.  We are talking bread, an egg, slice of cheese and meat.  Give me a break!  And don't get me started on the lunch sandwiches.

For the quality and quantity their prices are way too high!!

In my 15 odd years owning a weekend house in the Rosendale area, Market Market is the first local place I've eaten that really made me happy. Not "ok, fine, that wasn't awful" but really happy.  The food was really quite excellent by any standards, without needing an adjustment for the general New Paltz mediocrity factor.

Others have touched on their eclectic menu, which is nice, and their hipsterness, which is of the mostly harmless variety. I agree that their name is confusing.  In past incarnations this spot has been more of a deli or, if I remember right a sort of dirty organic market.  The location is odd -- right on 32, across from the Trailways bus stop.

It's not on the Rosendale restaurant "strip" so you might miss it.  I missed it until this weekend past when I tried to go out to eat with my dog.

Place after (empty) place pushed us away from perfectly adequate looking outdoor cafe spaces with a snarky "no room at the inn" for dogs (I'm looking at YOU Bywater Bistro).  Until, channeling my inner Joseph and Mary, we found Manger Manger, I mean Market Market.

They welcomed us warmly and without attitude. Great drinks menu.  I chose a Keegan Ale, but considered the watermelon juice and mint cocktail. Great food -- we had excellent Deviled eggs, a really great burger, sharp Gazpacho, a Shrimp and Grits special that actually blew me away it was so good, those Chorizo tacos (good, but my least favorite from what we ordered) mentioned in several reviews. On another visit we had sort of hipster take on Bi Bi Bop and very legit Hanger steak -- also great.  They gave me a water bowl for the dog, and even cooked up a plain burger for her too for a very reasonable price.

The waitress was sweet and fast and good natured, even though it was shatteringly hot out.

Dinner for 2 (plus dog burger) with appetizers, drinks, shared dessert:  ~~ $60. Worth every penny.

Market Market:  good enough to be across the river in Rhinebeck. Thank god they haven't figured that out yet.

We stopped at Market Market on our way out of town and kicked ourselves for not trying it earlier.

The decor is sort of latter-day hipster, so we immediately underestimated the place. My husband ordered the Bistro Burger and fries and I took a chance on the Avocado on Toast with an egg. HOLY BACON, our meals were absolutely sensational!

My husband's burger was on par with today's best gourmet burgers, and we had to pry the fries out of our hands.

But the real winner was that Avocado on Toast.  The bread was this beautiful, thick whole-grain bread toasted with olive oil and piled high with a sort of zingy guacamole. It was so good, we've been trying to duplicate it at home.

If "ambiance" is more important to you than food, head over to the Bywater Bistro. But if you want great food, look past Market Market's Brooklyn bus station looks and take a chance - it will surprise you (in a good way).

I will start by saying this - we REALLY wanted to LOVE this place. I totally appreciate the fact that many in Rosendale are into having a place to go to for coffee, food, drinks, and music. However, my gf and I were terribly disappointed.
We were staying in Phoenicia over the weekend and in search of good food...being from Williamsburg/Greenpoint, I know that our dining expectations can be difficult to match. Let's face it, the food in our hood is hard to beat. Going off of the NY Times article written back in May 2011, we were both excited to try Market Market and drove 40 minutes just to go there.
The NY Times raves about the completely all-over-the-place menu ("The menu features tacos filled with house-made chorizo, Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, and specials like pork schnitzel with brussels sprout and bacon hash"). It was hard to pick something so I chose sides: scrambled eggs, an avocado, and rice and beans. My gf ordered the huevos rancheros. I'll get back to the food in a minute.
While looking at the menu, a strange bug waltzed across the table. I tried to ignore this, however, I was also fighting with flies during the entire experience. The place was seriously in need of a cleaning crew. Empty tables were left with crumbs, napkins, etc.
Back to the food - the "huevos rancheros" were something completely unexplained. We are both from Texas and these were nowhere near huevos rancheros. Hot sauce was in the form of Sriracha, zero ranchero sauce, and almost raw eggs. My meal came out without the eggs. Minutes later, my scrambled eggs arrived soaked in butter.
I really couldn't wait to get out of there ASAP! Our stomachs have been in knots for 2 DAYS!

All of that aside, coffee is delish and our waitress was very friendly and deserves a shout out. So bummed...I know the owners' hearts are in the right place but this place needs some fine tuning.

Caveat: I've been here a total of once, and don't live anywhere nearby.

That said, we cycled up here from New Paltz while traveling in the area and it was by far the best meal we had over a long weekend in Dutchess and Ulster Counties; every place we ate the rest of the trip was pretty weak in comparison.

We showed up around early-dinner time; there were only a few other diners-- a couple families and an older couple. Our server (an owner?) told us it gets busier later on, and it looks like they host a lot of good and interesting live music.

The space is a pretty minimalist but well-designed roadside shack of sorts with sunflowers out front. The menu is what I would describe as "the type of food I generally would like to eat everywhere, all the time." Casual, comforting, filling, and interesting. Lots of vegetarian options but plenty for carnivores as well. My lady got a tofu banh mi, I had the tempeh reuben, we split sriracha deviled eggs and a slice of cake that was in the form and flavor of a giant Hostess cupcake. A few beers on tap including the regional Hurricane Kitty IPA. Everything was seriously delicious. And the service was relaxed and geniuine.

All around good vibes, great food, and a nice break from the off-putting hippie college/tourist-town BS of New Paltz down the road and the average diner/family-restaurant food elsewhere in the area.

I want to come back for brunch or live music, for sure. Maybe when they finish renovating that old hotel in Rosendale (which is one of the more idyllic towns I've stumbled upon, Tibetan goods store or no).

I've been meaning to write this review for a while, but can never really get the words to describe this place.

Disregard the sparse 'market stock'.... this place is all about the food and the creative sources that pulse on through.

From their vintage jiffy pop machine to their avocado sandwich to their succulent burgers, this place is a gem, especially considering the area.

I find that the employees, the owner, and the customers are all favourable, and when I stumbled in one night when the parking lot was full, I found myself surrounded by a tribute-karaoke night where people were dressed up and sang like the artist chosen for the night...

It's fun, it's affordable, it's simple, and it's downright delicious.
Go there if you're in the New Paltz/Rosendale region!!

Hmmmm where to begin and how to explain this place. I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is good. Definitely above average considering the area. It's called "Market Market Cafe" but their "Market" consists of small bookshelves stocked with one package of organic maxi pads or 2 cans of organic pasta sauce.... a little bit of this or that. Organic of course, but by no means is this place a "Market." When my bf and I walked in, we were stared at for a least a good two minutes wondering, "is this a we sit ourselves or do we get seated type of place?" Either way, we were the only ones there, looking a little lost, looking for menus, three employees were there watching us the entire time and didn't bother to say a word or maybe help us out a little haha. So from the beginning, the vibe here was a bit awkward. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you are a hipster and wear clothes reminiscent of Johnny Depp in "Benny and Joon" then you will be welcomed with open arms. Like I said, hard to explain this place.
